They run race horses to soon at 2yrs old, there joints dont fuse untill they are 3-5yrs of age. I bet her fetlock joints gave out and riped the tendon, not broke.

Im pretty sure its broke XarabhunterX.... when the bone is sticking out through the skin (compound fracture), it doesnt take the worlds greatest vetinarian to figure that out!!!! and speaking of Vets... I would assume that the Durby has the top vets there and she was looked over very carefully before puttin her down!!! Just my guess!!!!

Well, YOU can put all of you trust in a vet calls the fetlock an ANCLE(OMG!) but im not. And I never claimed to be the "worlds greatest vetinarian" its just my opinion. And if you can show me a video or photo that shows the bone sticking out through the skin than ill listen to your little compound fracture "expert opinion".

First off, it is ANKLE, and they said that because most people watching the Derby wouldnt know what a fetlock was. Vets dumb down their talk all the time, just like doctors do. It doesnt mean they arent credible. Dr. Bramlage is one of the best equine surgeons in the world, so saying he isnt credible makes you look incredibly ignorant.

Some times even the best make mistakes, never trust just a title. Like in this case, just because they say he's the best dose not mean that I should go on THAT ALONE blindly like everyone ells.

I think even someone who had never seen a horse before could determine it was a compound fracture. And it wasnt just Bramlage there, there was a team of vets

And look at the picture of Eight Belles trying to get up. Her fetlocks are bent the OPPOSITE way. Even if all the bones are intact, she would have had to tear her DDF and SDF tendons and the Suspensory ligament. Tearing all three at the same time is highly unlikely. Also, she had a necropsy done, so if it would have been a different injury other than breaking her cannon and sesamoid bones, they would have mentioned it!!!

She never tryes to get up in this video and its to far away to see enything. Breaking both front legs is highly unlikely as well so whats to say that she did not tear her DDF, SDF, and Suspensory ligament? Do you even know what a canon bone is? Becaus if she broke that her legs would not be bent the opposite way, or "the bone sticking out of her leg". The problem is at the fetlock, if you know what that is. What did you do, go scan threw a horse enciclopidea to try and make an educated comment?

You are a jackass. Of course I know what a fetlock is and a CANNON(not canon) bone is. I have a degree in equine science! It is possible for it to bend backwards if the cannon was fractured, because it was fractured vertically at the epiphysis and she broke at least one sesamoid in each leg. And I was not talking about the photo in this video dumbass-the one plastered all over the news! You have completely insulted me. So what in the hell makes you credible and not me?

Having an opinion that she broke down without breaking a bone while there is alread substantial proof is outrageous. And asking me if I know what a fetlock or cannon was was really insulting and rude. Thats what made me mad. It would be like me asking you if you even knew what an Arabian was(which I have one by the way and they are one of the best breeds!) and if you knew how to jump a horse. See what I mean? Sorry to get mad, but I was really insulted.

Im sory for insulting you, but some of the things you said maid it sound like you didint know what you were talking about. If I maid a coment about Arabians that made it sound like I didint know what I was talking about than I think you would be intitled to to tell me that I dont know what im talking about. And arabians are 1 of the best horses ever. :D

I did some searching for the Autopsy results and they found a combination of compound fractures of both front legs at the fetlock joints. They also found lacerated skin on both legs, an absence of JOINT fluid in the damaged areas and congested lungs. So it was JOINT & COMPOUND FRACTURE problems, we wer both right in a way.

Technically you cant fracture a joint. You can fracture the bones that make it a joint-in which it would be the cannon, sesamoids and long pastern. So saying she broke her fetlock would be a quick way of saying that. And to go with your statement about the DDF, SDF and SL, she probably ripped the hell out of them as well.
