i cant believe you all never heard of the western European dark ages around 500ish - 1000ish (not certain on dates. Fall of Rome to the Crusades) This period was very backward compared to the classical age.

People of the Renaissance talked about it in their own books. For the same reason they're called the Middle Ages - they were between the romans and the Renaissance. Sorry, but that's incorrect. Romulus Augustus was the last real Western Roman emperor. After his defeat the barbarian armies kept invading the Italian peninsula. Even before 476 AD there were no Romans left in the empire. Sadly, they were "fucked" out of existence. Modern Italians can trace their origins as far back as the Lombards. After them Italy gave us some of the best art, music and literature ever. They also set the standard for commerce and business.

yup. gotta agree there. without gloryfying it, it was a turning point in global history. however the "dark ages" didn´t start in 300AD. more like in the late 700. depends on how you look at it.
