search "John fletcher - Czardas" that is much better yes he is a very amazing tuba player but listen to this the triple tounging (which i can not do) is so much clearer and its just all around better also john fletcher is so relaxed when he plays it but unfortunatly the guy who played the piece up there ^^ is dead :( RIP John Fletcher
@TBproudoctions It is a Miraphone Norwegian Star Light. Mr. Baadsvik designed it himself for solo use. It costs about ten thousand dollars in silver plate.
i think he's an amazing tuba player, but i think he's a bit too concerned with his image. He always seems a tad cocky, maybe im wrong and its his "showmanship"
@PaybackTyme I agree to an extent, it does look a bit 'cocky', but there IS actually a technical reason for doing what he's doing. A- stretching his arms around to the front of the Tuba stretches his stomach and increases his breath capacity (so he claims), and also he is simply tuning the tuba mid-performance. There are tuning slides where his hands are, and if you look closely during songs like Carnival of Venice (which he told me I can't put up) and Invierno Porteno, you can see him tune
@kampori ahh right!!!! Thank you for answering me with this :) because im a tuba player also and it just looked very weird to me, thanks for the input!!! :D
@kampori@kampori If you look on his website, he claims that his Starlight tuba boasts intonation that doesn't require pulling while playing, apparently.
@kampori I had to quote the post about his posture to some guy on another video it almost made me laugh because the guy told me to go read a book and I've played tuba for 4 years now and am trying to use this posture now for my playing (cause it does help with extra air intake) so thanks for explaining his posture
@kampori Alright maybe there is a valid reason for his hands there for tuning, but not for breathing. Talking with Axiom Brass, they say it definitely looks lazy and it's much easier to get a better breath when you're holding a tuba right.
@kampori That whole stretching the stomach is frankly bs. I understand the tuning though but having your arm draped over the tuba will compress the amount of air you'd be able to intake on your left lung. I'm not trying to take anything away from how well he plays. Still, a fantastic player.
does anyone know wut brand of tuba that is, it looks like a st. petersburg i mean i know its an EEb tuba. hes a great player dont get me wrong but it sounded like in a couple places a lil bit off. but everyone makes mistakes, hes great but still human i guess
I just watched a video of John Fletcher play this. Quite amazing. Too bad he died so young... Def the best tuba player I've ever heard. and made that last note sound good.
The guy is so technical that musicality seems to to lack. Not impressed with the brand of tuba player that his type promotes. You don't hear a lot of other brass trying to sound like garbage as a "technical" attribute. Why guys like this feel the need to be such d-bags as a way of being unique is beyond me!
Wow. Just wow. Im a freshman at sachse highschool now , and before i saw anyof your videos i was horible at tuba and had to stay in my begginers band twice and was last chair symphonic in 8th grade. But after i saw jsut exactly what a tuba could do I started trying and practicing my but off , and now im probably one of the best if not the best player in my section (save the allstater) so from one fellow tubist To another , Thank you.
I totally agree with Kapory because when someone plays like that you defetnetly want to hear to ,I mean i might be a sophmore in high school but i heard good and this exeeds and goes beyon the expectations of tuba range and evry note is spoken correctly.
I am sure it was just a fluke. But you have to see it from my perspective. Here is the number one tubist of all time shooting me down without hearing what I got. I was hurt. It was like.....tiger woods reaming a semi pro golfer after only seeing one swing of the club. You see.....I was hurt and I felt that he didn't give me a chance to prove myself. Funny... cus he was more than the complete opposite with me, and every single time I've met him. Humble is exactly how he is. Yes he's a bit arrogant, but being that good at something you have the right to be. Look at Usain Bolt.
He's tough when you play with him, but only because he's trying to help & teach. No gain w/o pain. He's a great teacher.
