@Little6ster Well the song is surrounded in mystery and that is what makes it interesting. I just listened to Dylan performing in in Stockholm in 2001 and the chords are roughly the same but the melody has been chopped and changed.
Don't know if that is artistic licence or he has to do it that way to accommodate his aged voice.
@uke5417 One hand, the right hand, should have been held up to heaven to accept, a gift... the head should be averted downwards to the left, and the eyes gazing on the left hand, bestowing the gift to the earth, and we should be whirling like the golden rim of the galaxy.
@russbuss415 Anybody can do it. Just get yourself a knee length cowboy coat and spin like a dervish... and it you can incorporate an aboriginal bull-roarer to give some whirring sounds then so much the better.
@russbuss415 Yeah but don't forget the bull-roarer also... just spin one of those mothers around your head when you are out for a walk in your new knee length cowboy coat and you can cut your way through a crowd like Moses through the red sea.
@hoosierhiver If I had been in the US army at the end of he last century and the Indians had seen me dancing out on the prairie they would have given me the name "Dancing with Chickens"
I think of songs being pleasing in some way or other, but that's obviously not the case. Lots of songs take sides in some dispute or other and it's hard to like them, even with the best melody in the world. Somehow this now distant dispute seems kind of silly, like most disputes, actually.
@DearOldNutjob If you have seen the movie "Bringing it all back home" you will see that when Dylan visited the UK and plugged in his electric guitar he was actually booed by people who had come to hear him play acoustic folk songs. Many folk purists considered that he had betrayed them and rejected him. Perhaps "positively 4th street" was Dylan answering his critics who did not approve of this new artistic departure. The 60's were so serious.
@floydbluethereal It was inspired by a bit of the Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson end credits with a little bit of whirling Dervishes thrown in for good measure.
You are one in a gadzillion and that's a whole lot...!!!

Thanks for throwing me that juicy hambone, but the headgear looks more like a sikke than a trucker hat. And who knew Attaturk banned the fez in 1925?
I love this joint
