This is my shit! But tell me why I heard this at a wedding yesterday during dinner! I was about to get up and act a fool... I had to give the DJ mad Props.
It's hard to believe this is the same dude who brought us "Born and raised in Compton" I love it, it just goes to show u can have a love for all music.
Those teenagers at your school like most teens are mainly interested in what's out now. When they get in their 20's they may broaden what they listen to.
Compton, Ca. Artist/Entertainer Maurice WIZ PROPANE Blake is next out of the West Coast, check out his youtube channel its tons of videos, interviews, music, freestyles, commercials etc. Let me know what u think, subscribe if you digging it!!!...remember the name Wiz Propane and tell a friend! Also check out the film," Life Is Hot In Cracktown" where he co-stars as Brazil along side Evan Ross! Also check out his Honda commercial with comedian Deray Davis! 1 life 1 love GOD bless!
@JimBryanMusic Wow, so that's where stan the guitar man went in '91? And that's why Mike Sims and Colin Wolfe took over as bass/guitar players at Ruthless?
@JimBryanMusic Aiight, Aiight bro, you just may be right, but I'm familiar with Courtney Branch, Tracy Kendricks, and Robert Bacon (Total Trak Productions) working with D.J. Quik throughout his career.
And you're right about that, Courtney and Tracy were executive producers for Quik's first two albums, Rob Bacon has always worked with Quik all the way throughout his latest album with Kurupt, BlaQKout. But on 'Quik Is The Name', Bacon only worked on that one track.
BTW I see you subbed, thanks a lot!!! I do appreciate that!
I know and we wouldn't be having this conversation if you didn't know anything about this shit sir ;)
I double checked, and you're still wrong lol. Stan Jones did all bass and guitar on this joint except for the '8 Ball' track because that was Robert. Where do you get your info from? Because I'm reading the credits of this album right now. If you have this album go and check.
@JimBryantMusic Bro, Robert "Funksta" Bacon played bass and guitar on all of DJ Quik's joint. Courtney Branch and Tracy Kendricks were the guys behind the boards. (On "Quik is tha name)
When you here shit like this and compare it to todays music its as if the nerds WON, Like 2pac said, I done seen to many real niggas fall to let you bitch niggas beat me.
people be sleeping on quik not only as a Dj but as a musician...he can also play instruments. stan "the guitar man" jones is a great guitarist. stan is on many songs by bay area artist and other LA artist...its easy to sample and re make beats but not many can actually play an instrument.
@sleazzydub for me too bro! and if u want to hear the dopest possible rap to this groove, listen to guerilla maab - how could you. it does more than justice to the song
I remember hearing a different verison of this instrumental but I don't know where. I know he sampled "Hi Fi Summer" but I heard a version with more instrumentals added. I wish I knew where I heard it from....
The person that used this song in a pageant talent competition was me. All the guys in campus remembered me as the lady that used Quicks Groove to win the talent portion. 1st runner up wasn't bad. I won the next one...
i respect his musicianship..smooth jazz style.its great to hear a rapper get more in tune with music..other than the typical bitches and hos gimmick.or isell more dope than you.gotta love this.
Have you heard Quik's Groove VII? The one from "The Best of DJ Quik: Da Finale" not the one from "Trauma" (Yes, there are TWO Quik's Groove VII's). It's pretty amazing. That one ties with this one as my favorites.
This here takes me back. I was in grade school when I first heard this beat. It made my young butt slow down and chill. The first groove was the best groove.
Tha one that started it all , Quiks groove 1 man , yall just dont know how Classic this hit is and how Unique its is .. man Dope Quik shit ...... 1991 ....
Love this beat...Was 7 yrs. old when my older bro use to bump this track out of his "64" impala...Now I still bump it out of my "82" regal and keep it low profile!!x!3
can u, somebody loop this and make it longer? i still wonder why it was under 2 mins. teasin asss DJQuik lol..i could listen to this all day
this is one of the cuts i would "quikly" sample if i had producer-skills. the idea is in place already. all u need to do is speed-it-up or slow-it-down, drip-it drop-it pick-it-up, twist and turn it and BOOM!... its MY moneymaker lol.
This beat is what made me really dig this dude back in the day. I love smooth jazz music and this would be good on a jazz station. It is just over too quickly.
Pastor Troy did a song with this beat on his Hell To Pay CD, pretty damn tight. Quick's a genius and I feel Troy did this song well, captured the mood very well.
Naw, you had it right the first time. Quik is and was underrated and underappreciated. I honestly think his MUSICAL prowess was better than most of the cats that made all of the cheeese.
Like i have said on previous posts, Quik has more SOUL and FUNK than any of them, hands down.
Although it was rap and/or hip-hop Quik was makin' "grown folks music" and many just weren't mature enough to appreciate it whyen he was at the top of his game.
