It's amazing Idina is standing right next to Sarah Brightman! Love them both and their triumphant original roles they are known for playing (Elphaba Thropp and Christine Daae)
I really wouldn't be surprised if Sarah Brightman had gotten American citizenship by now, she lives there and has done for years. We don't hear anything of her here.
hahaha she isn't american but it certainly was a privilege to have her there. She the world's biggest selling soprano in history. What more could one ask for?
Whoever the bum is who is the first singing could have at least dressed for such a meaningful event and sung in some semblance of timing with the orchestra. A terrible disgrace.
I see your point about dressing up for this event. I spent a majority of my youthful years in choir, I know the importance of presentation. If it had been me, I would have been wearing something a little nicer. But don't completely knock the guy for having his own style. Isn't that's the great thing about living in America, freedom to choose? He's there, like every blue collar American, with a t-shirt, jeans, and love for his country. Give him a little credit!

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing too. I think that the organizers of the event didnt care about her nationality, just about her beautiful voice.

Nice rendition of what I consider "God Bless America" as America's answer to "Rule, Britannia".

Idina Menzel is my fav performer - shes my hero! gladys knight from Glaydys and the pips, & sarah brightman from phantom of the opera the original

Sarah Brightman is more than 'Phantom of the Opera'.
She has had the most spectacular solo carrer, since she left broadway, she is a diva.
Idina Menzel rocks.
