  • I love any Beatles cover that conveys the feeling of the original. She does it beautifully.

  • I think this is a wonderful cover. I'm surprised at all the arguing. The original is best, but this is good...that is all.

  • no offence but she sounds nasal, but she is really good at singing though! no hate she rocks! :)

  • she jacked it up

  • Fantastic job by Carrie Underwood. Of course nothing beats the original, but I think she'd make a really good cover of the entire song.

  • ouch......

  • first of all, why!? why pick such a good and classic song, secondly, why whould you ad your own twist to it. i know that is what singing is in some aspects, (sorry i have to pause it its so bad) but its not your song. thirdly, you cant be so serious when singing a song like this. your obviously going to suck at it and you are in no way recreating it.

    sincerilly,

a person who is anything but a fan

p.s. fuck you for singing a beatles song

  • @jpjohnson37 i hate when they try to add their own crap of screaming and hollering.

  • Still prefer the original, no offence to Carrie Underwood.

  • @LemonPledge01

Sorry Carrie, but your voice is just a run of the mill everyday voice. Check out Kate Bush. She did a true musicians cover. Just goes to show that splash and cutsie pie singers are what sells in the US for the most part. The truly gifted dont get anywhere unless they happen to look like a one size fits all Barbie doll. How sad!

  • i want this version of the song. carrie did a great job w/ it.

  • I'm not being funny, but they have made this song all glammerouse and the arrangement is all wrong. the song was written for child protection so what the heck is going on here?

  • Thing is that you are all right...You all recognize a masterpiece...doesn't matter if it's done by the masters...or by a Princess who does a fabulous job...It is an exquisite song written by a master and sung by a Master group of men......

  • i hate seeing this, sure she has a great voice but she doesn't even realise she's on the worlds stage having the honour of singing the greatest band of all times songs. I don't mean to spread hate, but I think they should atleast have some understanding of the beatles if they want to do their songs justice

  • Unlike your good self I will not get personal on this...

"She's Leaving home," on its release, caused the musical text books to be rewritten, due to its use of an overlay of 4/4 and 3/4 time. Something which had never previously been done in the world and which was until this time considered to be impossible!

It was/is for this reason alone, considered the most important musical work of the pop/rock genre. It will remain in the annals of history for all time.

    Not here..try the original.

  • Very nice. Though personal aesthetics always influence one's choice. Personally, I vye for the original given its more intimate, studio atmosphere - hard to recreate live. Plus this contemporary school of young female singers naturally bring out a sensuality in singing which, in the case of this particular song - I feel - tug with the song's inherent undertones of melancholy. Thus, the subtle emotional response roused by in the original, is mitigated when confronted with this kind of sensuality.

  • Hey... that's MY typewriter...

trop lente est trop oxide, tres drole yourself...

  • she looked like so shining

  • She did a great job. This was a live performance of a classic Beatles song they never did live. I read she had never heard the song before. She nailed it! And she presented Beatles music to another generation in the mean time.

  • I'm disappointed that my earlier comments were misunderstood by so many.

Yes the original is a great song. Yes it is one of my favourite songs of all time by any artist. The Beatles version is far and away the best. No I don't think that the original vocals were flawless.

I think Carrie did a good job GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES.

This song is a masterpiece of multi tracking and studio mixing..It's near impossible live. The best Philharmonic Orchestra would get the timing right 1% of the time

  • @ozylynx More bull from you! McCartney has performed it live on many occasions...flawlessly with his 5 piece band.

Who feeds you this nonsense...or is it all your own disjointed thinking? Wow. People...ignore this person.

  • @ozylynx you're a fuckin idiot. Near impossible live? That is why I have heard MANY artists do it live and do a great job at it, including Carrie. You have no clue what you are talking about. Go crawl back under your rock, you stupid little caveman.

  • @romeokid69

What that person meant was that playing 4/4 over 3/4 was considered impossible. (Not sure who other than less than inventive musicians would think so, but that is my digression) In pop music I'm sure some folks would think that impossible but I'm only 44 so I don't know what professional musicians were thinking about in the 60s. I'm certain polymeter wasn't invented for "She's leaving home" but don't let that take anything away from a wonderful song.

  • @Galactu5 While I respect YOUR opinion, the opinion of ozylynx is uneducated and moronic. There are actually MANY songs within the culture of rock music that are performed with one time signature playing against another. Mother by Pink Floyd is a perfect example. Ozylynx is just another uneducated troll who like to stir the pot.

  • Wtf wuz dat she killed da song!!!!!

  • its not as impressive when a girl does it

  • I'm seriously offended that one of the highest rated comments on here states that the Beatles rendition of this beautiful song( and it clearly must've been to be covered on AMerican Idol 40 years later) is being called less than brilliant. The poster of said comment and everyone who liked it needs to get checked, as they are clearly ill. That being said, this is entirely inferior to the original.

  • @Kevinf1125 Kevin ... you are SO RIGHT! I am pretty sure from now on, anything that ozylynx says is shit, or anyone who "likes" his comment can be considered a true idiot. Are there people serious!?!? Are they just lame American Idol fans? This is probaby one of the most amazing songs on Sgt. Peppers, and without a doubt the album version will ALWAYS be better than anyone cover. And this is coming from someone who thinks that Underwood did an amazing job on this song. But how the F*ck can...

  • @Kevinf1125 How the F*ck can someone say ANYONE can do better than Paul & The Beatles? ... Unbelievable!

  • She is so amazing!! She can sing anything. I'm so glad she didnt try to do it exactly like the beatles, she brought something else to it. I hate when people try to do it exactly like the original. She's showing the younger generation that there are good songs out there. I never heard of this one or some of the one's she sang on AI and I went back and listened to them later. I see why she choose the songs she did!! She just always brings it and makes you want to hear more!

  • ..... destroyed, absolutely destroyed a Beatles classic

  • Sorry but she makes the song sound country and she sings the song badly

    But a great song

  • @thebeatles4740 Um... she's a country singer... I'm not too keen on country music myself, but there are a few exceptions. I think she did pretty damn good.

  • i bet you half the crowd has never even heard of the beatles

  • She wipes her nose

  • Gooooooodddd! this is a wonderfull version,I am glad,bye,bye.

  • great video.

  • big no no - 0:16 - 0:18. Stunning girl :)

  • She sounds better here than the Beattles ever did!

  • @grandmagrumpy HOW DARE YOU!!!!

  • @srednaslenoloc Maybe the truth hurts? She's great in this.

  • @grandmagrumpy

    That's not truth. That's a f***ing joke granny.

  • @srednaslenoloc Well, I like new voices. She's one of the best new voices.

  • It obviously doesn't have the same effect of the haunting harmony of John and Paul, or the powerful essence they bring to it, or come close to the real song, but her vocals are pretty good.

  • she broke classic beatles song

who advised carrie underwood choosed this song ??????????

the first and the last, i can listen !

    sorry carrie underwood

  • '' A LUZ DA MANHÃ'' BY CÉSAR LEITÃO / VERSÃO DE SHE'S LEAVING HOME

    NO YOUTUBE.

  • wow this sucks she suck no 1 can sing like the beatles !!!!!!

  • totaly bland and formulaic

  • pure shit

  • As a long term Beatles fan, I applaud the performance of this singer. McCartney didn't really do a great job on the original.

The problem is that this ground breaking song was written with Viennese waltz time and Common time interwoven. Considered to be musically impossible! Unfortunately the band never comes to grips with the intricacy of the undertaking and rarely glimpses the possibility. On the rare occasions where they almost have it right, they simply lose the plot. Kerry copes well.

  • Comment removed

  • @ozylynx I feel completely different. The quality of Paul's voice and the emotion are perfect mixed with John's voice in the middle. I would say it's one of the best Beatles vocal songs.

  • @ozylynx paul did a frigging amazing job on the original, i dont know what you're talking about.

  • @ozylynx

You said "The problem is that this ground breaking song was written with Viennese waltz time and Common time interwoven. Considered to be musically impossible! "

3/4 time is what waltzes are written in, but, like this, other songs use that time too. No big problem with that.

BTW, the band had it exactly right. Nice arrangement w/o overdone percussion.

One of the best qualities of Beatles' music is that it can be performed in various arrangements & always sounds great.

  • @ozylynx "Considered to be musically impossible! " hahahahah

  • @ozylynx McCartney didn't really do a great job on the original? I hope that's a joke. It's a masterpiece on the best album of all time- pretty sure he did a great job.

  • @sfreester why you waste time on answering dumbs like that? Someone that def migth be blind too, so that morron wont read it neither

  • @ozylynx what do you mean Paul McCartney didnt do well? you must be crazy! he obviously sang better than this hill-billy.

  • @ozylynx After reading your comment... it is a fact that you're a true jackass!

  • @ozylynx way to give your comment thumbs up 12 times

  • @ozylynx What?!? Because you are a long term Beatles fan you have the arrogance to dismiss the songwriters own performance of his own song!??! Friggin Idol is destroying your minds. McCartney wrote it and thus sings it the way it was written which is the CORRECT way to sing it!! Another product of music school education, I suspect. What a shame.

  • @ozylynx You're right in saying this, he did a great job in the original ... it was the work of the 4 great musicians from Liverpool, which were not only a great song on a great album, but gave full circle to what music was understood at that time. Now if we talked about doing a great job, because even though Carrie Underwood makes a good performance, she didn't work for only did a cover of the song, that's all

  • @ozylynx

I just signed to say HOLY CRAP DO YOU EVER TALK SOME NONSENSE! Where exactly does this song go into common time?! And you want to criticize the American Idol band?! You're an idiot! They played fine.

    Dude, just stfu.

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • This version makes me think that the problem of today's music is not the the lack of talented musicians or composers. The problem is that musical producers developed a standard of what's "good" based on a formula to reach technical perfection and comercial reliability. Great singer, great looks, great musicians, but still very inferior compared to the original 40 years before, just because The Beatles' original goal was music, not cleanliness.

  • @luizcadu

Whether that's true or not, Carrie Underwood has a great voice. At least they didn't bring on Kanye West or someone who couldn't hit the notes to sing it.

  • no one will beat the beatles but carrie did a pretty good job.

  • The Al Jarreau Version is better than others.

  • best cover of this song.

  • Incredible.

  • good but Syreeta does it way justice..

  • You can't really say she sounds bad... =S

  • not good D:

  • no one like the beatles sorry c underwood fans thats the true!this was just another wanna be beatles song, not good, did not feel it, sorry I know she is a really good singer but not alot of people can do this songs! its almost like trying to do a queen song

  • To all those complaining about the song being cut in half - uh, that's because there are time limits on American Idol. I'm sure Carrie would have loved to do the whole song, but television shows like this don't allow it.

  • its pretty good, just has more of a country feeling to it of course

  • she cut the song in half and the who mellow-dramatic sound is gone. Shitty cover

  • @clemsonman0503 lol i thought so too, me being a huge john lennon fan, didn't like the cover, it just annoyed me. on one can be the beatles, they all fail miserably! *_*

  • omfg, i think, this version is very fail xD :D

The Beatles bettern than other people !

  • drums are superfluos, but people may like it more... i don't think we need it

  • out of tune

  • out of tune

  • Generic!

  • Its okay maybe even decent but it just doesn't convey much emotion in my opinion.

  • as the day hoeoeoeeoeoe begins ... how she breath?

  • After I heard her sing this for some reason I started to really like the Beatles in a big way. The whole performance on American Idol was fantastic. Its like me listening to the Beatles for the first time.....its wonderful.

I dont know what Carrie Underwood did to me, I'm not really a big fan of hers.

  • How beautiful is she :)?

And her voice....How can there be such a perfect girl :)

  • Great song - great voice - beautiful girl!

  • wow! great singing!! goosebumps even!!

  • sucked :( There is TOO MUCH OVER THE TOP SINGING!! There's no feeling in this cover

  • Well The Beatles sing it better:) Well Paul and John anyway

  • i usually hate both American Idol and when pop stars cover Beatles songs. I do have to admit, though, that this is pretty damn good.

  • sounds pretty damn good to me

  • bueno el cover

  • shes really cute lol but she cant sing this beatles masterpiece

  • i actually just noticed that.

  • i usually hate pop singers but imo she did this song good, it was powerful and spine-shivering

  • carrie's not a pop singer. she's country.

  • Okayy well The Beatles are considered pop/rock

  • @Kaitlynn123Micaelah No they are not. Compared to music now, yes. But back then it was revolutionary and not Pop rock.

  • totally with rushjunkie. they were popular but they also revolutionized music as we know it.

  • no shes not that good the beatles are still better no carrie dont try to sing the beatles...

  • So she cant do it as well as The Beatles, thats an unfair comparison. I still think this is well done. Not the best, but far from awful

  • Great performance Carrie!

    Love, Bryan and family.

  • I really liked how she sang a song about a girl running away from a comfortable home life with the conviction and confusion of a girl doing just that. The sexual references on this page are disgusting and misogynist.

  • So what if she is hot, no one can make a Beatles song better than it was before.. Atleast I haven't heard one.

  • Then you need to hear more versions of the song, then-here are some covers to get started:

In 1967, Harry Nilsson covered this song on Pandemonium Shadow Show.

In 1972, Syreeta covered this song on Syreeta.

In 1976, Bryan Ferry covered the song for the musical documentary All This and World War II.

In 1978, Al Jarreau released a cover version of this song on his album All Fly Home.

In 1983, Richie Havens covered this song on Richard P. Havens, 1983.

  • i actually like her version of this song, obviously nothing can compare to the original but, i was impressed. please dont tell me that rubin studderd or whatever his name is was gonna sing lucy in the sky kuz that would just be horrible

  • I though it was fine for the first 50 seconds. :P

    Then it just...pffffft.

  • What would have made this perfect is if she would have done the song naked. And her cooter shaved to the skin. Otherwise, pretty damn good.

  • She has two big problems here. First is her breathing - she is unable to encompasss a whole line and has to insert breaths in the wrong places. Then also she can't pronounce the letter D, making it a T instead. Apart from that, all cheese and no pathos.

At least she is blonde, I suppose.

  • The Beatles are English and in the English accent, D is pronounced as a T

  • No, in English the D and T are quite distinct. There is no sibliant sound in the D.

  • at least she's not like taylor swift, winning all those awards when she can't sing at all. if taylor swift attempted any song, it would song bad...at least carrie's got an awesome voice!!! =]

  • i cant stand her accent

  • she managed to turn a beautiful, enchanting beatles song into a cheesy, country, belty, soulless nonsense

  • Umm excuse me but she took a game show challenge which this program is, took the song she was given as per the program, delivered it with as much poise as any female could doing a male vocal nonetheless a Beatle vocal and in my opinion did it with better than most artists will do it. If she had an opportunity to do another Beatle song, one which might be more appropriate for her perhaps it might appeal to you. However she really doesn't have to now doesn't she.

  • Excellent job Carrie. Keep up the excellent work. Spectacular baby.

  • The Beatles' version is obviously superior, but man... those high notes! :)

  • That,s Just Bad

  • TRAGIC.....BAD KEY......BUTCHER JOB.....Stay away from real music Carrie

  • GREAT Job at the "hooooooooooooooome" part.

  • A great tune! as with any great tune...any one should feel free to do it :-)

  • I am a huge fan of the Beatles and this is one of my favorite tunes....I also think Carrie Underwood has a terrific voice although this song was definitely not a good choice for her in my opinion.

  • I love that swirling lights and her outfit, It's also a pretty song but her performance of it doesn't cut it. She looks good though

  • I'm at 1.24 on the video and can't take any more. Utter crap! I'd like to be more constructive but words fail me.

  • i dont think her style of singing does any justice to the song

  • she not only ruined the sound of music for me, but then she went and ruined my favorite Beatles song for me. :(

  • Agreed. It's even rough without John Lennon's vocals in the background. It will never be played better than the Sgt Pepper album.

  • you can never beat the beatles, i mean they are the geniunses who orginated the song, :)

  • asco me da

  • All ass; no voice. This sucks. No passion at all.

  • Horrible! Simply awful!! So sick of hearing the same voice coming from the majority of contemporary pop/country female "artists". So bland and boring, no passion at all.

  • Listen carefully dude. It's not horrible. Yup she is in the poptopfemininecrap genre but she really is talented. I think this is Idol. She is obviously nervous at the beginning and then digs down and belts this. I don't like shit but this kid took the song and made it her own for a few minutes. I respect that.

  • and she's got great nasal flares. Sexy stuff man.

  • "Dude", believe me I have listened carefully & it still sucks.

  • Well have a toke man, I've certainly heard worse versions of this tune.

  • Wonderful job Carebear.

I love you. You are wonderful.

    You owned it Babydoll.

    You sound exceptional !

  • shitty!

  • I'm sure she has good songs but I belive Sing shoul;d stick to ther own kind of music and not "TRY" to make An already timeless song A remake and the even worse so vut out A part of it

  • this song was written by both macca and lennon...macca of course did like 80% of the song. lennon did backing vocals as well as the chorus was his baby.

  • This is quitea great cover! It sounds like it was about to segue into "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" makes me regret not watching the finale

  • Wow, she really belts it out, doesn't she? The best part about that was "Ladies and gentlemen, Rubin Studdard"

  • Very good Babydoll !

    I love you Carrie!

  • Eh, alright cover, but not too much justice here on the Beatles. Carrie has got a nice voice, but it didn't compliment this song really. She usually does great on her own style of songs, but the Beatles are not her style.

  • well this was a beautiful song. Sorry nothing against Carrie as an artist though.

  • her legs are like butter!!!

  • I think Carrie Underwood is beautiful and talented. But, don't mess with a Beatles classic. It's a no win situation. I don't think I've ever heard a Beatles song covered that I really liked. You don't mess with perfection

  • Good voice, but horrible performance. Thanks for fucking up McCartney's masterpiece.

  • Agreed.

  • she's freakin sucks!!!!

  • two thumbs down :(

  • nice way of destroy a fantastic song.

  • she did awesome on this song.

  • I heard 2 times this beautiful song performed by this very good vocalist and ... Why so harsh cristicism of some here? she is only one and not a band don t disqualify the other please dont be shiites Learn admire with no necessity of destroy "the enemy" .

At end the beatles had a moving bye bye of course putting theirselves on the skin of the parents, Carrie say a more common bye because she seems think on the moment her own bye many years ago and it is now only a distant memory

  • horrible

  • This is a beautiful performance! It's Carrie Underwood, the top Female Vocalist in country music, ACM Entertainer of the Year and Grand Ole Opry member! She hasn't had one horrible performance, and she never will! Let's see you do all that she's accomplished!

  • I agree, she has a great voice and has accomplished so much in her life. I'm definitely not saying I could do better, or that a many people could do better. She is a great artist.

But. She is top female vocalist in Country music. Not pop/rock like the Beatles. It was an alright cover, but nobody can do much justice to any Beatles' song. Sorry, but it's true.

  • BEATLES dont touch dumb

  • HORRRIBLE

  • Atrocious.

And to the person (Deparis29) who claims there is "no wrong interpretation", I put it to you that you are a fool.

    This isn't an "interpretation".

This is a straight cover, and a poor one.

  • this song was written by Paul McCartney...

    Sir Paul is the Best!

  • OMG

  • She skipped the middle!

    fcuker.

  • thank da lord she did, shes shite,

  • OMG someone tell her to quit Destroying the Beatles music John rolled over in his grave on this one

  • its a mccartney song.. i'm sure lennon didnt mind.
