It applies to all music types. However, Classic/Opera/Broadway and so on, require more. Rap as well, since their lines are very quick and can be quite long, proper breathing is key, as to not choke and run out of air by the end of your line. Another thing, is also the ability to properly take in breaths without gasping or being "jerky", as well.
This is something super new. I always thought breathing in causes the stomach to compress. I mean that's what the military always says " Breath in stomach in chest out "

I am confused. some say when singing R & B, Pop, or Rock they said it doesn't apply. only classical singing or broad way.
