The divorce rate for christians is the same as that for non-religious people.
Now I've pointed that out, you re-read the marriage vows and tell me why that is - and also why those who divorce after taking the vow in front of "god" aren't burning in his hell.
The facts are: there is no god, and we will be better off as a race when most people have realised that.
Just live your life, enjoy it by giving more than you receive; don't threaten anybody with endless torment, and smile.
@StrumstickJoe That statistic is far flawed. Of those who call themselves "Christian," very few are Christian in the sense that they follow the same beliefs that John Piper believes in. Many say "Christian" because that's how they were raised, but they haven't been to church in years.
I've seen all those studies, I've seen all the numbers. Their statistical sample would be thrown out in any other study, but they love to bring this one out like it's fact.
@retr0mullet Hi. I don't mind too much if the statistic is flawed (most are, and I have no verification whatever of the numbers) my point is that if christian marriages fail, in any numbers whatever, it means that the people are failing and that their beliefs are failing, as well as their church and their god.
Study the service; look at the words, and try to explain why "what god has joined together" is so regularly and cynically "put asunder"
@StrumstickJoe so tell me...you live by "live your life" right?...if you died right now would you be happy...i doubt it because if this was all there is you would conform to rules and you know it...if we all "Lived our lives" like there was no afterlife then EVERYONE would steal noone would work and do nothing and just relax....how can you "live your life" if you dont even know how long you'll live...or what will happen tomorrow?..truly pointless and false idea.
@UnadvisableCloud If I died right now I would be neither happy nor unhappy - I would be unconscious of the world at that moment and for ever.
This life is WHAT there is (if you call it ALL there is you demean it and belittle it by implication) There is nothing more - and nobody, despite all their wish-thinking, has shown that there is.
The concept of eternal life would be horrible. Think about it! (You obviously haven't so far!)
@UnadvisableCloud All non-faith folk would steal and do no work and just relax??? You really believe that??
The vast majority of people who have ever lived have done so without belief in the delusion of faith; the world goes on - despite the religions, not because of them.
They are demeaning, retrogressive, immoral and dangerous. Let us look forward to life without them.
Amen. I wish people could truly see what it means to glorify God with marriage, what it means to depend on God for everything, including our marriages. Divorce is such a devstating problem that Christians are embrassing today and supporting and it breaks my hearts to see how easily we accept. God is not glorified by any divorce, and he would never choose a divorce. We know this as Christians yet we still choose divorce. May God have mercy on us for our selfish unloving ways.
Great video. Marriage should point to Christ but the reformed church is using a person's marital and financial status to deny people fellowship.
