  • 38 waves disliked this video?????? How could you not like this video???

  • Simply awesome!!!

  • It isn't 90 feet...look at 0:25 maybe 60 feet at the max....

  • Also, how have 38 people managed to dislike this? What's to dislike?

  • Awesome

  • 6x15=90 not 45 lmao

  • Oh where did my comment go !?!

    It was 89.6587 ft high.

Oh! Fr Gabe is a surfer. I thought they meant saint Joe was a surfer. Lol

  • Big wave, but it seems to me that I've seen waves just as big ridden at Jaws!

  • thats it

  • Comment removed

  • its not 90 foot. he is half centimeter tall on my screen. and the wave is at its biggest point in the video is 7.5cm high. if this man was say 6feet tall which is taller then the mean average of an adults hight. that makes the wave only 45feet high on the face. since waves are measuered from the back of the wave which is smaller then the face. the waves is actually more like a 30foot wave.

  • @SeeBas4223 What planet are you from? Call him 6foot and 0.5cm on the screen. At 0:20 the wave is 9cm high on my screen., so there's 18 half centimetres, which is 18x6feet which is 108. Take a bit off for the back of the wave being smaller and voila, you have a 90ft wave

  • Really big wave, but I doubt it is 90 feet.

  • That looks like an 88 Foot wave.

  • crazy dude, nice stuff :)

  • Wow!

  • How could waves be so big :o Thats crazy

  • Paul Walker sent me!

  • paul walker on facebook! :P

  • Amazing!

  • Isnt this like snowboarding with an avalanche coming down the mountain after you?? Insane!

  • I would be too scared even to be the jet ski dude.

  • Joe Rogan sent me ;-)

  • Don't forget the jet ski team. This is about as dangerous for them as the surfer. If he falls, he needs to make it down ''thorugh'' the wave and out the back side. That is tricky to accomplish in itself. Even if he is able to get it done, the jet ski will have less time to save him because of the delay of having to wait for the surfer to surface..the next wave is coming fast. This has to be timed just right by ''everyone''. Even waves 1/10th this size are dangerous.

  • when a tsunami hits, this guys gana prepared n surfin it out like the silver surfer

  • Not 90 but close.

  • I don't see the dislike bar!!!!

  • My absolute hero

  • people can't just accept the fact that wave is a 90 footer because its not filmed from a heli, in HD and slomo.Jeff Clark surfed Mavericks alone for 15 years cause no one believed him, they all thought big waves were only in waiamea. I hope more big wave riders explore the Nazare Canyon. A diferent thing is the heaviest wave: Cyclops, Teahupoo, Right, Shipstern Bluff... in Portugal we have a similar wave, called Cave, when its big, its very dangerous.

  • Watching this whilst listening to Time Is Running Out by Muse makes it even more epic.

  • @ImmyPotter900 Muse? HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • if he was to fall, would he die?

  • dude this is radical!!!!!

  • Dont no if it just me , but im pretty sure i have seen bigger at cortes?

  • @buskingforlife a rouge wave they come randomly a leave a trail of destruction behind it

  • No way that is 90!!!!

  • @Sloth55Chunk ah its only about 6-8

  • i surf bigger

  • 55 feet at best.

  • My mum said she was in a tidal wave in spain when she was young, she said the tide went out quick and a big wave came from the horizon to the shore and washed over their heads, obviously she was young so doesn't remember properly, but I'm assuming it wasn't a tidal wave because if I'm correct they derive from seismic activity and tsunamis tend to be more than one wave? Does anyone know she might of experienced? She said it went quiet, the water went out and a big wave came towards them.

  • that is insane!

  • this is what happens when chuck norris decides to splash someone while swimming in the bahamas

  • OHHHWWWEEEEE... 90ft?? just huge and thick

    a big day at mavericks

  • meh ive surfed bigger

  • Good one

  • PORTUGAL!!!!!

  • Laird rode one just as big if not bigger. Nut hey im not mad this is ok too i guess. Ask for the photos ill direct you too it.

  • Wow he avoided alot of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm from portugal and let me tell you the west coast there is often intimidating.the ocean there is no lagoon.there are big waves most of the time and i've seen many monsters similar to this one.back in 1986 i almost lost my life swimming when i was sucked in by a riptide and i was just on shore barely in the water.the ocean can tame you pretty fast and this surfer said he will never tempt fate again.in southern portugal the ocean is much more friendly.wow what a monster!

  • the wave is actually only 4 meters high, hes just a short asian

  • @mrglorioso1982 You can't multiply millimeters with feet and inches.

  • Is it a fake or real?

  • THIS IS WHY PORTUGAL = AWESOME SURFING ! Carrega tugas xD

  • trestles?

  • Dude that wave was sent from God that ride was perfect. Awesome Garrett !!!

  • to small

  • and when im at the beach 4ft waves seem big

  • Him: This wave is so small!

  • Welcome to PORTUGAL!!!!

  • @profjoaotiago Duuude I'm so there :D

  • gnarly

  • GARRETT WOULD GO!!!

  • This wave is deff bigger than mike parsons wave by at least 25-30 feet. The bodies of the men on screen are different. This guy is half the size mike parsons body is on screen in his film clip. This wave knives into the air where as mikes grows with a massive load behind the tunnel. Haha load

  • Acording to my calculation this wave has about 81.964 feet. Put on full screen. With my screen size, the man measures 14 millimiters. The wave at is maximum measures 225 millimiters. Divide 225 by 14 = 16.0714... Multiply this number by is height (5.10 ft) = 81.964. Maximum wave height is about in the 24 second. I measured the top of the wave slightly to the right of the surfer foam track. The question is "wheres the bothom of the wave?" Still world record anyway...

  • @mrglorioso1982 dude you have way too much time on your hands lol

  • Guts!!!

  • cool

  • And we all know what happened when that wave hit Japan...

  • sweet

  • it is not a 90n foot wave mike parsons wave was bigger than that

  • @innstinctx HAHA~ I love you brought mathematical calculations to this video <3 Good Job Math Wizzz~'! =D

  • i need kleenex

  • I think we know the next Billabong XXL winner.

  • 100% agree with you. There is NO way this is over 60. I've seen a ton of these videos and it looks like 50-60. McNamara is a bad ass, and I'm sure he'll ride a 70+ footer some day, but not on this day. Just look at his body height compared to the wave height, then go back and watch Mike on his 77 footer, and you'll see real quick that it isn't close to 90' and isn't even over 70'. Great wave though, a monster for sure!

  • 12 body heights is the most I can come up with, round him up to 6 feet and there you have the 72' max wave

  • That's not a wave, that's a tsunami -.-

  • do u die if u get sucked into that wave?

  • PORTUGAAAL

  • In their mind, this is what most surfers think they look like when they're surfing their local break.

  • @milkenobi in te reality every surfers who think that will die if this wave comes out in their local break.

  • mute the sound of the soundtrack and add skrillex - scary moster and enjoy!

  • turn the nine upside down. ive talked to big wave pros and all of them say this is completely false. its about 60 feet. garett is great but this isnt 90 feet

  • @TheWhiteout7 I talked to God and He said to me that is 90 ft...

  • @TheWhiteout7 take a ruler, measure @6 feet the measure the wave, it is 15 times over head-90 feet, 60 feet island style!

  • totally pitted bro!! like craaaaghgh

  • i didn't realize they could even be that high. o-o

  • send me music sound track plz

  • PORTUGAL!!

  • I think Parsons wave at Cortez was bigger.

  • portuguese power

  • Go see the original

  • the only happy guy when a tsunami is happening!

  • Didn't impress me as much as Laird at Teahupoo. But still epic.

  • @seattlehawkins I give you credit on that comment. Teahupoo is just a sick wave. I dont know what is the more impressive one. I could say "Nazaré is the best and whatever" but i wont. Does 2 are 2 of the best in the world for sure.

  • @Mainewaveshredder you cant retain that much speed on a surfboard, if it was flat and let go of the rope he would stop very quikly. Also you argument is fundementaly flawed in that if he was being towed so fast why is he retaining the same position on the wave?

  • hmm lets go down this water mountain with a board - my thought if i was gona surf that lol

  • Dude that guy got the best barrel ever dude. He just like, he pulled in...just got spit right out of em, then he just dropped in and just smacked the lip, Whap Pah! He dropped down, SNABPAHHAAH! And then after that, he just dropped in, road the barrel and got pitted...so pitted, like that...

  • im going to nazare in december to meet him and to find a wave like this

  • Nice ride Garrett as far as the biggest wave ? out in the middle of the ocean the waves dont just pitch and close out fast like Jaws etc not taking away anything from Garrett it still takes a set!!!

  • number one:this is not 90 feet. Number two: this really is not surfing, His speed is not being generated by the wave therfor its almot like he his just riding on a steep lake.no disrespect but i dont believe tow surfing should have the record

  • @Mainewaveshredder would you not say the wave is 15 times taller than him? I would, and I assume you know nothing about surfing, because as soon as he lets go of the tow rope all the power is coming from the wave...

  • Ok Physics Wizards: How tall is the wave when it starts to break? The offshores are very strong and keep it a "swell" until the :23-:25 second mark when it becomes a wave. Measure the size of the surfer in relation to camera height+perspective, and the amount of trail the Surfer leaves from the start of the wave breaking to when he is at the bottom. Then, go around Youtube and measure equal/larger waves. No disrespect to McNamara as this is a gorgeous wave, but measurements are inaccurate.

  • @edwardcourage1970

    1.He is from Hawai and

2.I'd like to see you trying to paddle through 90-foot waves

  • I'm from Portugal, AND I'M PROUD!

  • speechless!

  • its massive, but nothing like jaws or log cabins. this is just a peak, then it goes fat. it may be the biggest at its peak, but it's not as crazy as the others!

  • Groovy surfin' tunes! :D

  • Wow! Even the shoulder at 0:36 is bigger than what most people would ride.

  • is berlusconi....

  • what song is this?

  • @dennis1026pt

"Ricochet" by David Michael and Lee Pomeroy

  • Fingers in the nose.

  • Did he survived? kidding

  • i can't close my mouth anymore... :O

  • quien no surfa asi! jajaja

  • might as well add another 0 after the 90.... -_-

  • Surf's Up!!!

  • PORTUGAL NAZARE =))))

  • Anti-climactic.

  • This wave is not 90' it's pushing 40 plus.. Where is the other 50 ? Just call it what it is.. I't may be the record for tow in's.. But if it were surfed you would have to be SURFING!!!!! That means paddle in. ANY good surfer could get towed in and go strait. WAKE UP...

  • @surf2ballet When you manage do paddle, and catch that wave call me.

  • weak, smallest wwave i have ever seen in my whole life!

  • @LikeAstraightBOSS Largest wave ever recorded was almost twenty times that height, standing at about 1740 ft or 530 meters. Put it this way, the Empire State Building in New York City is 448 meters ish. So take the Empire State, add two of these 90 ft waves on (ish) and you have the largest wave ever recorded. Theres a fact you didn't ask for. Merry Christmas.

  • @MisterJamieLawson What kind of wave was that? How was produced? Im not even asking you if was surfed. Where's that happened? See what i mean with all these questions? Its about the biggest wave ever

    S U R F E D.

  • It was produced in a special placed called Nazare in Portugal.

This small fishing town has on his shores one special geographic rarity an underwater canyon. This canyon its called in portuguese "canhão da nazaré" = "Nazare cannon" it shoots huge waves like this one... Want to know more google it ! take care

  • @innstinctx It was produced by an earthquake in the ocean off the coast of Alaska in 1958. And of course it wasn't surfed, can you imagine trying lololol.

  • @MisterJamieLawson

What's the name of the surfer who rode that 1740ft wave? You need a surfer to have the record you know =P

  • @molinobeer no one surfed it, it is merely the largest wave ever recorded, not the largest wave ever surfed :) surfing a 1740 ft wave would be a bit like throwing yourself out of a helicopter hovering at 500 m and tying a surfboard to your legs...ie...suicide :D

  • @MisterJamieLawson

You said the title was wrong. That is why it isn't, no one surfed the thousand feet wave, and this is the world record surfed wave. New World record. ;)

  • @molinobeer i didn't say the title was wrong? please look back through my comments on this video, i merely stated that these waves are tiny in comparison to what can actually be generated.

  • 27 cant stand up on surf boards

  • Its firme

  • Chuck Norris is the best

  • any grandmother with a ski rope and set of skis can drop in on that wave

  • that's not a wave!!! that's a tsunami!!!

  • @TheKaffeeKlatsch Unfortunatly they didn't. But who cares, ah ah ah

  • Gnarly to the max, Dude.

  • RESPECT!

  • chuck norris did a cannonball

  • with only this video to go on i'm saying this wave is more about 85'. Based on my scientific calculations, but definitely no less than 80'. Need more photos but could be 90'.

But whatever it is - it's totally amazing!

  • Chuck norris caled he wants his jacuzzi back

  • @patric122497 called*

  • Totally radical dude.....

  • fantastic!!!!

  • I favourited this cos i love the music

... and the wave ride too

  • 27 PEOPLE NEVER SWAM IN THE OCEAN

  • Woah come on should read.dude pulled into a big wave by a seadoo.

  • Really 90FT? I can see it a huge wave but 90FT IDK, Nice job McNamara 100FT in sight !

  • @GranthamHQ its true obama!

  • pretty cool, but it was a tow in

  • @Mainewaveshredder Man, you have to tow into a wave that size to get up the speed....dropping in is impossible.

  • Unbelievable and amazing if true.

  • 90ft.......really? hmmmm

  • MUTED
