Man I sooooo wish here was a studio version of this track , this may sound blasphemic but I like this version better then album version. I also think Trents slightly deeper voice sounds good in this track.
@pierrevalois00 nah. just cause he did alot of drugs and his voice isn't as good doesn't mean he can't write. He can still make a bunch of great songs.
@pierrevalois00 Actually I think its the lack of crack that makes trent suck more these days. You'll notice he was a brilliant preformer in the fragile days when he had a good healthy cocaine breakfast under his belt by the time his show would start
What I cant stand is all these people being such snobs about his voice. He's sounds fucking great and yea...he's older *gasp* you expect after a 20+ year career for him to sound the same? ur stupid and I notice this almost all nin vids too. He's awesome and makes genius music and you don't so in his own words "SUCK IT" stuck up elitist bitches :)
He (Trent) doesn't sound much like himself in this, he sounds sore :/ His voice cracks so many times between 2:45-3:00.. He started to pick up a little near the end though.
I'm sorry, don't know how you lot got on about god as I cannot be arsed to read it all, but I'd just like to say that in my opinion for someone to put their blind faith in something like religion in this day and age is absolutely fuckin stupid!! Forget about god and Jesus and all that bollox and just enjoy the fuckin music!! Peace x
@WeAreEternal1223 Yeah it is. I dunno when it's being released (hopefully before the end of this year) but he's still working on it. He said himself it keeps getting delayed because they haven't decided on the packaging just yet, but it's supposed to be the "Ultimate reissue." Can't wait to hear it!
it's very difficult for him to sing live. he's constantly in his upper register and after singing it for a while he would lose his voice. this performance was actually transposed down a minor third (3 notes lower) from the original version on the fragile.
He was pretty drugged up when he recorded these vocals in 98. IT tends to make your voice higher than normal. Its why you never hear a live version most of the time. Now he's older and sober, and the whole is about 2 steps down. Hence why he sounds like this.
@hehfilms I prefer the agnostic standpoint as well, we're not done discovering all the things on this planet, so who's to say there's definitely not some giant beardo keeping an eye on us. lol It's the same with life on other planets, the idea that our one planet is the only one out of billions that has life on it is mathematically impossible.
It was planned, the whole gig was part of an Alternative Reality game. In the make believe world, all forms of art were banned, and so the secret gig was raided by police because it was illegal (In the story of Year Zero, that is)

@Civix666 I believe in God, and I believe in myself. Jesus was an amazing man and I live as he did and told us to because, well, He was a good fuckin' person. Don't listen to the Christians that suck the old testaments dick. Jesus talked of loving every man as your brother. Not loving every man who isn't gay, has never had an abortion, never had premarital sex, and has accepted priesthood and not married. In fact, I don't recall him saying anything about those things.
@Civix666 Ran out of room, btw. Secondly, believing in God is important because it gives you hope that no matter what happens in life, it's for a reason and things will get better, whether in this life or the next. God is to Christians as amor fati is to nihilists (ex. Trent Reznor).
They need to make a DVD of this video. I've skimmed though the whole thing on the OSR site, and it's freaking amazing. The end reminds me of Cloverfield a bit.
Does anyone know where I can download the entire video? I would love to have the whole thing...
I'm not a fan of the guitarist...he's okay, but I can imagine how difficult it would be to re-create the guitar from the album version. For a song that is NEVER played live, this wasn't bad at all.
Aaron North? Are you kidding me? He's incredible...Trent picked him for a reason. And not to disagree w you twice but i thought this was a great performance. It's NIN live for God's sake!
Well, to each his own. I'm sure Reznor had his reasons for picking him, but I don't like really like him, same for the bass player. I like the new line up better, and the one from the other eras.
As for this performance, I thought it was just okay...this song seems incredibly difficult to play live and they didn't do bad at all...just nothing...EPIC or anything.
But hey, these are my opinions, and those are yours. I don't expect ANYONE to agree with me.
You're saying that you don't like the bass player? Jordie White!? He, also is an incredible musician, I saw this lineup back in '06 and it was one of the best NIN shows I have ever been to, And I have been to quite a few, but just liek you said, "To each his own."
wtf? why r people giving you thumbs down?! This crowd is aweful...it is a fact. I would be going nuts if I was that close to them. And why are people dissing Aaron North? And whoever the hell "slowfuse" is obiosly doesn't know that Aaron toured w NIN for only several years. They (He) have been making music since '89. To say that he ruins every song ever is an ignorant statement, he's just going on what all these other fools are saying about him sucking. A sheep obviously, Aaron is on point here.
I completely understand why you say you would go nuts...but if you were at a private nine inch nails show, with Trent fuckin 2 feet away from you...wouldn't you rather take it all in and appreciate it, instead of going fucking nuts and not really noticing anything that's going on? I just saw them in the summer at Lollapalooza, and I went nuts..because 5,000 million other ppl were there behind me..
Yeah, Good point. I totally agree and stand corrected. If it were a more intimate setting and I was 2 feet away from the man himself then I think the ONLY thing that I woukd be able to do is stand in complete AWE, And by the way, I'm totally jealous that u saw them at Lollapalooza. Did they open w/ 999,999 and go into 1,000,000?
yeah man...just like that. I don't remember what they were playin when the ended it, but one by one they stopped playing their instruments and took a bow and it ended with trent on the piano and it wass soooo sick...just fading out one by one
They did the same thing in Atlanta (Deluth) when I saw them, I believe that it was "In This Twilight" that they finished with and stopped playing their instrumentds....it was pretty awesome huh?!
I agree about Aaron North, I think he does a great version of The Big Come Down - I much prefer Aaron's take on that to Robin Fincks (not that I don't like Finck)
the guitarist is very well known for his skill actually and the qwerky mprovised stuff NIN does live is terrific. Their live stuff is emotionally charged and done with an element of surprise. This performance has atmoshpere, get a clue.
This is at least as good as the album version, which is truly saying something, considering how good The Fragile is. C'mon Trent, keep playing it live!

There are just some things that don't seem very fair in the world, like the hypocrisy of organized religion. @Civix666 Ran out of room, btw. Secondly, believing in God is important because it gives you hope that no matter what happens in life, it's for a reason and things will get better, whether in this life or the next. God is to Christians as amor fati is to nihilists (ex. Trent Reznor).

i wish you would have just focused the camera on trent the whole time.

For a song that is NEVER played live, this wasn't bad at all.
justauselessshandle 3 years ago
Aaron North? Are you kidding me? He's incredible...Trent picked him for a reason. And not to disagree w you twice but i thought this was a great performance. It's NIN live for God's sake!
Recovrd1 3 years ago
Well, to each his own. I'm sure Reznor had his reasons for picking him, but I don't like really like him, same for the bass player. I like the new line up better, and the one from the other eras.
As for this performance, I thought it was just okay...this song seems incredibly difficult to play live and they didn't do bad at all...just nothing...EPIC or anything.
But hey, these are my opinions, and those are yours. I don't expect ANYONE to agree with me.
justauselessshandle 3 years ago 2
You're saying that you don't like the bass player? Jordie White!? He, also is an incredible musician, I saw this lineup back in '06 and it was one of the best NIN shows I have ever been to, And I have been to quite a few, but just liek you said, "To each his own."

terrible crowd wow
balzac1x 3 years ago
wtf? why r people giving you thumbs down?!

This crowd is aweful only because this is a Secret Show!!!!
EnryPhilCollins 3 years ago
I completely understand why you say you would go nuts...but if you were at a private nine inch nails show, with Trent fuckin 2 feet away from you...wouldn't you rather take it all in and appreciate it, instead of going fucking nuts and not really noticing anything that's going on? I just saw them in the summer at Lollapalooza, and I went nuts..because 5,000 million other ppl were there behind me..
lilyoungin4812 3 years ago 3
Yeah, Good point. I totally agree and stand corrected. If it were a more intimate setting and I was 2 feet away from the man himself then I think the ONLY thing that I woukd be able to do is stand in complete AWE, And by the way, I'm totally jealous that u saw them at Lollapalooza. Did they open w/ 999,999 and go into 1,000,000?
Recovrd1 3 years ago
yeah man...just like that. I don't remember what they were playin when the ended it, but one by one they stopped playing their instruments and took a bow and it ended with trent on the piano and it wass soooo sick...just fading out one by one
lilyoungin4812 3 years ago
They did the same thing in Atlanta (Deluth) when I saw them, I believe that it was "In This Twilight" that they finished with and stopped playing their instrumentds....it was pretty awesome huh?!
Recovrd1 3 years ago
yeah that sounds right...but hell yeah man, it was amazing.
lilyoungin4812 3 years ago
In This Twilight haha.
saw them back in august. amazing show.
wish i could go back and watch the Fragility v.2.0 tour more than anything :(.

I agree about Aaron North, I think he does a great version of The Big Come Down - I much prefer Aaron's take on that to Robin Fincks (not that I don't like Finck)

that awful guitarist ruins it again like he ruins every song ever
slowfuse 3 years ago
the guitarist is very well known for his skill actually and the qwerky mprovised stuff NIN does live is terrific. Their live stuff is emotionally charged and done with an element of surprise. This performance has atmoshpere, get a clue.

This is at least as good as the album version, which is truly saying something, considering how good The Fragile is. C'mon Trent, keep playing it live!
