Come on people, why are you complaining about them talking fast? This video helps you understand german under real conditions, if you go to germany they WON'T talk slowlier for you to understand! This video provides a little more help in learning german, you can't use only this for achieving your goal! For me, it was really interesting! Where is the rest of the videos with Katja and Alexander? :P
@pieceofmymind3 Hi, let me explain our method: It´s called immersive learning. It´s very similar to the way children learn their native language. Just watch and learn from the context. But best of all, one can stop the video anytime and replay it as often as one want. [Try this with a native speaker. ;-) ] By-the-way: we have even developped many helpful tools at LinguaTV for example for replaying a dialogue, sentence by sentence. Please take a look at the free demo lesson at linguatv .com
@zoe745 LOL ... hey, talking about "speed" - did you ever listen to French or Spanish native speaker? Compared to those, Germans are rather "talking slow" ;-)
@HeilEvilCupCake It´s possible and it´s best (according to some scientific studies) to learn without subtitles in your native languageeasy. Watch & listen and you will learn from the context of the situation. Of course you can repeat watching the video as often as you want and you can look up each word in our online dictionary. Check out our website linguatv / com for a free demo lesson.
@vashaczar That would be nice. ;-) And you are welcome. Great that these videos are helpful. Greetings from Christoph in Berlin. Known as Alexander from Berlin. :-)
these videos are actually helpful if you have a good basic understanding of the language, i understand everything they are saying, but i'm using this to better understand native speakers, i dont see how anyone could learn anything from this, you learn what a sentence means, but not what the words mean.
if someone doesn't know much german, they cant learn anything from this, its not exactly easy.
they should make some videos where they speak faster, and explain the sentences thoroughly
I lived in Germany with my boyfriend for 6 weeks, and believe me, some speak MUCH faster than this. Pretty much, they ran into each other, he said excuse me, please. Introduced themselves, asked where they were from, where they live, where they go to school, where they want to go to school, said how old they were, blah blah blah. It's much easier to live in a country and learn the language rather than from a youtube video.
Oh my goodness! It does sounds hard. I have always wanted to learn German but after seeing this, I don't know if I could do it. They are speaking so fast! How can a beginner learn when they talk so fast?
@ilovetheniqab Dear ilovetheniqab, first of all: don´t panic; take your time. You can repeat listening to the video again and again. It´s proven that you learn with each repetiton. Furthermore in our online learning platform LinguaTV you get additional tools such as subtitles, transcript, online dictionary as well as interactive exercises, which helps you learning writing, listening comprehension, pronunciation, and grammar. Try the free demo lesson. Good luck!
I like this video is the dialect different in Berlin compared with other german cities?
I need help schneller I have a german person I write to and even though he wants me to learn the language he is not willing to help..HELP!!!! What IS the right way to begin, besides going there to a school(#1)
@musicalstarz45 Yes it is ;-) And you don't have to go to school in Germany to learn it better. You could start by buying crash courses for beginners german, you can also find a lot of good stuff on YouTube too (or maybe even online idk) ask your friend to send you easy books, watch movies etc. That's the way I do it with finnish :D
@MrLdbz good for you, lol, but Im still stuck in this hell hole at the moment. Why are you watching this video if you live in Germany, Im guessing you would already know basics.
oh yes i love it lol, i am not german but i love germany when i was 12, there are no schools here that knows german , so i learn by ME and still learning lol :)
@TheMasamura112 it's 'ich will deutsch lernen' great that the usa don't think of us as nazis because we are not nazis ! every german HATES nazis ! it's a dark capitle of our history...:(
@MadeInIreland97 so ist es richtig: "Ich komme aus Irland. Ich liebe Deutsch. Ich bin vierzehn (Jahre alt). Ich spreche (noch) nicht so gut deutsch." ;-)
WOW! Almost 200.000 viewers of our youtube video "Die erste Begegnung" (the first encounter) from the language course "German for Beginners" ... we are so happy and thankful! @xxnovaxstarxx Actually, there is some research that strongly suggests it´s very effective. Please read more on "learning languages with subtitles" in our blog " w w w (dot) linguatv (dot) com/f_Blog/2/16228?lang=en "
@DaAlRoMa u write "du" with a capital letter if u want to be polite! =D
thats also the same with "Sie"... you also have to say Sie if you don't know the person you talk with or when the person isnt a child! im german and i know, everything is easier in english! xD
Lets see if I can remember how to speak German! Das Video war fantastisch! Ich habe es geliebt, aber die Animation war ein bisschen einfach. Wer dachte, ich bin Engländer. Sag mir, wie mein Deutsch bitte! Some of it was about animations. . . . .

This video has two issues that I can identify. The most prominent is how Alex immediately refers to the girl with Du. This is not really an appropriate usage, and while they are both young students and the standards are relaxed somewhat, it is not really good to convey this usage as appropriate to learners of the German language. Secondly, he asked he the rather personal question of what she does for work, again this falls somewhat under the Du/sie idea.
@MorganTheCupric In general, you are right: there is a formal and a informal way to address people in German. Since this is the first video lesson of a whole German beginner course at LinguaTV.com, this lesson covers the informal version, which is easier to understand for beginners (especially speakers of languages, that know only the informal version ;-).
@MorganTheCupric By-the-way, among young people and students it´s very common to address each other with the informal "Du" from the beginning. However, if you are not certain, it´s polite (and recommended) to ask (or offer) first, before addressing somebody with the informal version. For example:
"Sollen wir uns duzen?" or "Ist es in Ordunung, wenn wir uns duzen?" Traditionally, it´s the older (or in business more senior) person to ask / to offer the informal version - not the junior.
@superniitendofan64 Do mean the fact, that you love Katja - or - your German sentence? ;-)))) As for your German sentence, no one would really say this. Rather use: "Ich liebe Katja." [ I love Katja] - or - "Ich bin verliebt in Katja." [ I am in love with Katja. ] . As for the fact: Yes it makes sense, she is great! ;-)
I like learning german on school, im 15 now and learning German on school, because its standard in my country, just like French and English. People say Dutch and German are almost the same language, but it's so different ! Yes its similar and you learn it faster if you can speak Dutch, but still so many words are completely different or they are the same but have a completely different meaning. Its very confusing sometimes. Also pronouncing words in German is very different to Dutch, its softer
@lenobaleno ;-) there are more difficult ones ;-) Actually, we are working on a phonetic course that teaches you all the sounds and correct pronunciation. Coming soon.
I want this video on my F233 phone.

MorganTheCupric 1 year ago
@MorganTheCupric In general, you are right: there is a formal and a informal way to address people in German. Since this is the first video lesson of a whole German beginner course at LinguaTV.com, this lesson covers the informal version, which is easier to understand for beginners (especially speakers of languages, that know only the informal version ;-).
LinguaTV 11 months ago
@MorganTheCupric By-the-way, among young people and students it´s very common to address each other with the informal "Du" from the beginning. However, if you are not certain, it´s polite (and recommended) to ask (or offer) first, before addressing somebody with the informal version. For example:
"Sollen wir uns duzen?" or "Ist es in Ordunung, wenn wir uns duzen?" Traditionally, it´s the older (or in business more senior) person to ask / to offer the informal version - not the junior.

Does that make sense?
superniitendofan64 1 year ago
@superniitendofan64 German People would know what you mean, but you have to say Ich bin in Katja verliebt
EverythingAndOther 1 year ago

Also pronouncing words in German is very different to Dutch, its softer
bordkrijt 1 year ago
@bordkrijt There's a joke going around, that dutch can easily be translated in german if you know which vocals you must cut out. ^^
