I was raised on Maria Pirez's version, hence I'm slightly biased, nonetheless Martha is setting the keyboard on fire and more importantly this is note perfect.
I listen for her to do anything wrong in this music, but she never does. Greater contrast to Lang Lang there could not be found, who, in this music, usually gets everything wrong.
they gave her a third rate conductor and a weak orchestra that play flat,
worst still, the piano is a very old, out of tune piano. the keys are sticky and do not rebound properly. the whole keyboard, if you look at all the keys, is uneven.
forget about a superstar pianist like Martha, even you or I would/should be pissed.
yea...she is pissed...is that her real personality? she seems really nice afterwards in her Bartok Piano Concerto- with the jap people....this is really bad recordng- so unclear...does anyone have a good copy?
Sorry pal....I must disagree with you, probably she has a powerful technique, but the sound sometimes is mechanical, and lack of musicality. Probably the best interpretations you can hear from her were around 1965 when she won the Chopin competition....Probably the best interpretation of this concerto is the harasiewicz when he won the chopin competition.superior than Arrau, or Pollini. Harasiewicz great rubato in chopinesque form....with even left hand and soft touch prevailing over bravura.
Amazing playing, considering how little can really be done on that p.o.s piano. I would have looked a bit pissed too.

You should also watch CHRISTOPHE ALVAREZ performances of this concerto.
Many people say he captured the poetry of Chopin Larghetto Op. 21 !
Seach on Youtube for his videos...

I assume you mean the conductor, and I agree. She looks quite annoyed with him about something. Her playing is wonderful as usual though!

oh,yes yes,I made a mistake. I wanted to say that she seems to be angry at the conducter.I also think she played very well as usual, but why.....
maserati0721 2 years ago 3
who knows with whom she was angry - surely not with Chopin ;-)

Anybody notice that? She missed some notes at 1:16~1:17(around at the 87th bar).Maybe that was a reason why she looks so upset.
