i remember in 1998 we played this on school pc 286 and modified a lot the variables so that the explosion area of the banana destroyed all the level auhauhauh
I LOVED THIS GAME! My dad and I played it, he was helping me learn basic physics when I was 8 or 9. However... it was FUN to use the moon's gravity.... or Saturn's.
fun fact : based on the music playing at the title screen, it's not the first version. you probably know also the few notes music for the game "nibbles.bas", it was the same music for "gorillas.bas" before the version you are showing.
What a legend, I played this game recently and have lost it. It was so fun to learn maths and kill the enemy gorilla with exploding bananas at the same time...
Yeah.. thanks to this game I first programmed a PC.. to play little pc speaker songs! =) It hooked me to technology when my neighbor syster said she could pick the songs up on her radio!! =))
This game is loads of fun for two players. You can see the banana hurtling towards you, grimacing in helpless horror, as your buddy gloats in anticipation. ^_^
One more thing. I happen to have a good looking girlfriend and.. I swear to you, I almost died one day when she saw me fooling around in Qb and let me teach her enough that she was able to write (with only a bit of my help) a program to pset a set amount of pixels randomly.
I know it doesn't sound like much. But the idea of this. Too much for my mind to comprehend. If anything is a testament to QB that would be it.
The power and functionality to fun ratio is second to none. Poor DOS.
I remember in high school back when we were learning dos and windows 3.1 all the kids thought this was some kind of hack, and the teacher wasn't even aware of it and thought we hacked the computer or brought it in, then everyone started playing it, and it got so bad that you would get suspended. Its pretty sad that the teacher flunked me even though I now have a computer software biz making thousands of dollars and he is the greeter at walmart I think.
Man I loved this game! Think this was probably the first game I ever played at about 4 years :D

This was a great game to be bundled with Nibbles. Showed you a simple way to do sprites. Nibbles showed you a simple way to do real time game play.
QB is easily my favorite language ever. I still use it even though I code applications to be released in C/C++ with Allegro or SDL.
Nothing beats testing an algorithm quickly and not having to wait for compiling or being able to use graphics without libraries immediately.
Have you seen what can be done in pure QB, no libraries? Monospace? Yeah.

Where can i get this game???
AnaMacarena12 3 years ago
The original QBasic version is downloadable at:
qbasic dot com, classic, files, gorilla dot zip
You're gonna need QBasic interpreter to run it (google for it if you want).
There is a Java version, a remake of the QBasic one, that runs directly from your browser. Google: "Jorilla Sourceforge"
Cheers ;)
