  • You're telling us that the selenitic puzzle is the most infuriating? I finished that puzzle when I first played Myst while I was like 8 or 9, and you're too focused on "OMG the screen transitions are too slow" than to take the time to really take in what a good and original game Myst is.

  • 0:41 the non-uniformity of the trees and what-not

  • Who gave this awesome game to this guy?If you are too deaf to solve that puzzle the normal way, you can simply count the tones on the piano and enter it that way.For example, tone number one is obviosly the eight from the left on the piano, so it will be the eight from the bottom in the tuner. But it looks like you are not only deaf, but also dumb.Put Myst away and play The Sims.....

  • @zhhika You know all those videos on this channel are a parody, right?

  • It's a pity some people just dont have the patience. If they did, they'd learn what a gem myst really is.

  • Obviously this guy doesn't really have much taste, because let's face it: MYST IS AWESOME.

  • Seriously, even if you are certified deaf, you should still be able to COUNT how many steps to push the levers. If you cannot count that far, I suggest going back to Mortal Kombat.

  • After The Review Is Over:

    *NOISE*

Narrator: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH SHADDUP YOU FAKING PIECE OF SHIT!

  • this game is for people with the ability to think. i played this game when i was like 8

  • I <3 myst

  • The dip shit reviewing this game is more than a moron hes the king of morons.

I played this game and I fuond the Rocket Ship rather eazy.

  • The rocket ship section was by far one of the easiest ones to get! You just had to move your mouse very, very slowly. Though you were using a playstation.

  • Blah i don't like this game cause I'm tone deaf blah

  • I think hes just too stupid to solve it...

  • i remember seeing this in gameinformer back in the day

  • Um, you don't even need to bother with the spaceship.

  • That's bollocks about the ship. We did it in the 90's.

  • I'll FREAK out

  • you have to anticipate the angle of the dangle in this age, It's no surprise that Edanna is going up on the Age Food Chain, We have a challenge to Ubisoft, It would shock the game industry if Yeesha got Breast cancer in her front-loaded anvils! Imagine the drama of a vulnerable Yeesha still writing Ages, avoiding getting trapped in a prison age, If you don't like this Myst Game, you are stupid! Yes, I know--that's insulting, but it's the truth!

  • Funny, usually a classic youtube video has 80% thumbs up and 20% thumbs down. Here, it's just the opposite.... That tells us a lot about the DUMBNESS of the reviewer, whoever this guy is. I hope he's reading this: You're just a moron...

  • Fuck you WoW guilds.

  • this guy is so fucking stupid

  • Myst's puzzles are mostly lame, as you merely fetch codes and enter them at an obvious spot. But it is good for beginners, and I appreciate it for defining this great genre.

Schizm and RHEM are much more clever and challenging games.

  • hahaha a harpsichord.... what an idiot

  • dude.. i played this game when i was 10... and we got solved all the puzzels.

  • And why in fuck's name would you want to play it on a PSX? In fact, why would you want to play the original Myst when we have realMYST, the same exact game with far better controls (and better immersion as a result)?

  • Seriously? It was a pretty easy game all in all, aside from 2-3 rather difficult puzzles, but you can just look 'em up in a walkthrough. For instance the huge maze near the end of the game requires you to grab pen and paper and spend 20 or so minutes drawing the map. It's not a complicated puzzle by any means, it's just time consuming. I mean unless you're not willing to spend at least 5 minutes or so on each puzzle, the game is disappointingly short and somewhat easy, but still a good game.

  • Admittedly the rocket portion was the most difficult for me, as I cannot carry a tune in a bucket. However, I did get thru it and made a cheater for it, saran wrap lined up on my t.v. screen. Other than that I personally thought the game was well done. The main downfall is once you have beat a puzzle it's burned in your brain giving it low replay value.

  • lols. Why would they have a guy that can't appreciate puzzle games do a review on it? I probably can't beat it either but I wouldn't rage on it.

  • This guy must be a moron because I was 8 years old when I played this and beat it. Granted it took me a while but I still did it. But I mean this guy sounds like a dumbass so I am not surprised.

  • this dude has no brain and can't read

  • that piano puzzle is one of the easier puzzles in the game. this guy is a straight up tool.

  • you can't execute it (notes) cuz you can't memorize a note?

  • That was the stupidest thing i've ever heard about Myst... and trust me, I've heard a lot about this game...

Of course it was difficult if you were 8 year old when you play this (just like me) but in no way this game is impossible to finish....

  • the reviewer is a dumbass

  • i did the musc-stuff and im 14 -.-

  • There were ps1 games that had passwords? I would have never known, since memory cards were soo cheap

  • and that's why you play the pc version.

  • LOL entering the correct notes was never hard. do one at a time, listen carefully, and play the note over 100 times if you have to.

I guess the reviewer of this never got off of the starting island :D

  • I love myst I played it when I was 4 and I still love it!!!!!!!!! But it took me about 3 months.

  • ... Wow. o.O I played Myst ever since I was 8, but that music part was easy.

    And I'm no musician.

This guy must really suck at anything that involves thinking.

  • This guy reviewing this game is a complete moron.

  • @cjarcus: ya think?

Search for "Retsupurae navgtr" on youtube. You can thank me later. Trust me, they destroy this guy. May I recommend the "Tomb Raider" review?

  • @LanIost I agree with this guy, but make sure to watch out for breast cancer.

  • Seriuosly now...

I actually beat the Rocket Ship section when I was 6.

And he moans about the PS1 being slow on the screen transition...

I played it on a Mac Performa 360, when the screens would literally take minutes to load.

Just deal with it for god's sake. It's called patience.

  • @SQUIZZLER24 Do you know anything about a remake of MYST? I heard about it but I dont know if it is from lucasarts/sierra

  • @MrDuncan1997 I know it's been a few months, but the remake is RealMyst. I finished it a couple of days ago, brilliant! You can get it on gog.com

  • @TheConfoundedWizard thanks but whoa.. you made it???

  • @MrDuncan1997 Finished as in reached the end of the game : )

  • Apparently Myst wasn't cancerous enough for this guy.

  • OOOOH he is goona get out of the closet!!! FREEEAK OUTTT !!!!! uhhhhhhhhhhhh

what a fag, you are the worst tipe of nerd, the stupid and ignorant one

  • This looks epic, what the fuck are you talking about

  • Myst one of the coolest adventure games

  • I had absolutely NO PROBLEM getting the spaceship to activate and transport me to another Age. People should have an IQ of at least 50 before being allowed to "review" (read, bash) a GREAT game such as Myst. I have found NO bugs whatsoever when playing, either the Masterpiece Edition or the DVD.

But contrary to what the guy says below... you CANNOT "beat it" in ten minutes. Avergage time is 40 hours.

If you haven't played it, find the entire series on DVD (NOT the multiple CD versions).

  • Comment removed

  • To: Navgtr...THEN GET THE PC VERSION YOU DUMB POTATO

  • myst is the easiest game. you can beat it in ten minutes.

  • @tomakeyoumylamb whoah, are you like a genius or something?

  • @tomakeyoumylamb i can say tht deffinetly myst is not an easy game, but compared to the other games from the series I think myst is the easiest, while Riven is by far the most challenging, also my favorite S2S2

  • Wow, this guy is an idiot. He couldn't figure out the organ puzzle?

  • This guy deserves to get his shit slapped.

  • That was probably the most half-assed review I've ever seen

  • Great Series! I don't think this guy should be reviewing this game if all he can think about is how slow it is. It had AMAZING graphics for its time and great imaginative worlds. Like everyone else is saying... horrible review.

  • @dajaseon21 the Playstation did handle some converted games rather poorly though. Ever played Civilization II on the original playstation? Thats a LOT of infuriating cd-loading all the freaking time. Dont know how bad the myst port is with that, though.

  • your just like the other ppl in this world who thinks puzzle games should be that easy well its not.... and the part with the rocket is freaking easy i got it right in the first try

  • @Mindemon, me too...although I knew very intelligent people who didn't get the rocket. You have to have a musical ear, is all. I got it in about 45 seconds. Others never got past it. On the other hand, I don't think I got the power station easily. But I finished the game, and before my husband, too.

  • @marginallymental i've never played it myself so im just curious about that puzzle: are you supposed to enter a sequence of notes by ear or whats the deal? That wouldnt be hard, so im confused why the reviewer is so angry with that puzzle? Maybe im misunderstanding something :P

  • @sethshazam--yes, it was a sequence of five notes played on an organ directly inside the spaceship. Don't ask me how I received the info, tho...it's been decades since I played the game! I thought the Myst puzzles had just the right amount of UMPH for me---but Riven was just too big. I was a very young mother, and didn't have time to sit for hrs each nite, switching CD's back and forth as I went between islands. A Beautiful game, but too huge for me. You didn't play MYST? You missed out!!

  • @marginallymental Well I'm probably going to give it a go some day. I love old games :) I didn't get a CD rom drive until quite late in the nineties, so i missed out on it back then. And CD switching sure was a pain in some games. I have some bad memories about that kinda thing! Looking at you, Wing Commander III :(

  • @Mindemon, me too...although I knew very intelligent people who didn't get the rocket. You have to have a musical ear, is all. I got it in about 45 seconds.

  • The problem is: Who the fuck plays Myst on an playstation. I didnt even know it was out on it. Never seen it in a store or something. Probably it sucked on playstation

  • so terribly....yet they made 4 more games in the myst series

  • memory is a must? just use a friken peice of paper HERP-DE-DERP

  • "The non-uniformity of the trees... and what not."

  • This review sucks. Whoever hates Myst is a loser.

  • I agree, it was a masterpiece, it took time, and intelligence. Write shit down, and you're golden. Greatest series in games, and books, including Uru.

  • MYST is a very thrilling and interesting.

"SPEED RUN" It is the most beautiful. I'd like to challenge myself!

  • LMFAO

  • It is possible to solve the music puzzle If your not a dumbass

  • I liked the "Gaming in the Clinton Years" animation, but it kinda went downhill from there.

  • freak out? Yeah a freak you are, it is not that hard.... 10 year olds can play it.... what are you, stupid?

  • @eend66 yea. and I played Myst IV since I was 8. (And now im 12) And my mother love it so much too, just like me. I think the review was made on an opposite day (xD when good games became horrible and horrible games became good XD)

  • So basically, you think the game is rubbish because you don't have the patience to play it?

    navgtr... just... shut up.

  • If it weren't for Myst, you wouldn't have the multi billion dollar gaming industry you have now. Myst put computer gaming on the map.

  • Myst was a brilliant game. Sounds like the PlayStation port was crappy -- having to wait every click must be bloody annoying. Other than that, the complaints were silly. I know a lot of people had trouble with the spaceship puzzle but it's quite trivial if you are able to recognize notes in your head. Also it looks like the reviewer never got past Myst Island.

  • LOL

  • I don't agree with his review downing the game but I have to admit when i played Myst ((of course then I was much younger)) the sound puzzle always frustrated me. I want to get the games but the only version they have for the PC isn't vista compatible :(

  • If you can't figure it out, why would you show it on YouTube in the first place?

  • Dude, the spaceship was easy, you just got to figure it out. The sequence is even located in the music book. "1" "2" "3". I figured that out after playing it "briefly".

    EPIC FAIL

  • I played the PC versions, hard but not "invincible" Perhaps the sound quality of the PS itself is too poor to port Myst over to? To be fair that's actually a relatively easy puzzle unless you're tone deaf or your sound is poor. On the other hand they should have simplified it if the PS had a hardware deficiency as I suspect.

  • this is the best game ever

  • =\

youre not gonna make many friends by dissin myst , homie :p lol

  • Oh my god, U suck!

It's supposed to be hard and if you mention it's a PC top seller, why didn't you play that version!??

It wasn't originally built 4 playstation.

And why does this guy only care for the graphics in most of his reviews?

  • his review is garbage

first off he fails to note the game is also for the Macintosh so you dont have to hear your playstation "groan" or whatever it is

second all he does is bitch about ONE puzzle that was a little hard but it is not invincible

he never talks about the good parts except to make filler words for when he bitches more about the game

last note, when reviewing the game your supposed to talk about the bad AND the good not just the bad

  • Check Out my rendition of the Myst Theme!

  • Ummm yeah, try playing that sob on the mac, what it was designed on and for, then make your critique.

  • Oh my God! This game is supossed to be hard!

  • FUCK!

  • You have to take into account the game was designed for the computer in the early 90s, not for playstation. Try playing it on the computer and then critique the game play.

  • well It was hard when i was a kid, now it probably wouldn't be so hard. Although when i was younger(not when i first played it) i found another copy of it at a yard sale..box and all. so i bought it. It came with a book, Like a journal of the character your playing as, It made the game real interesting

  • wow .. this guy is an idiot ..

  • Boy, I'll say he's an idiot. I just played the game and made it all the way through to the end. It took me three days on my laptop playing at night while watching TV, but I got it. The musical code was not hard either. Maybe if you're tone deaf it could be a problem. Only problem I saw was that now I went all through it, it's done to me. Can't do it again. I mean, what's the point. I'm going to have to get the next game in the series.

  • Gah. The problem is not in the spaceship. The problem is in people with no problem solving ability trying to play Myst. For goodness sake. It's not that hard. If you had trouble on Myst, just wait until you play any of the sequels. Or use a Rubiks cube. Or have to figure out how to get into your house when you're locked out.

    Chill, Nav.

  • I had no problem with completing the game (Well, so I may have spent hours trying to figure one thing out, but I still completed the game.) If you aren't musically talented, you can still finish that part easily, you just need to use a different strategy. Riven's harder. Why the flip is this a promoted video. Not that special, just some loser who's ranting about the worlds best adventure game series. Sorry, but the only people finding this video are going to be Myst fans.

  • Featured.

    Not promoted.

  • whatever

  • Freak out, man.

  • He's clearly not a musician

  • Even I could solve that piano puzzle and I'm a musical dunce.

  • @Manegi2 no kidding i got that part right away :D im stuck trying to get into the stoneship age tho

  • Yeah, Myst was the top selling game until 2005 in which The Sims passed it.

A game made 1993 held the record for 12 years. Navgtr, you's a bitch.

  • Hey when I play Myst on my Laptop (10th Anniversary Edition) I can't view some of the in-game videos. Can anyone help with this?

  • dude... that's why you get the PC version. none of those problems exist

  • Even the PSP version isn't that slow.

Based on these complaints, I would describe this person to prefer realMYST. Look into it.

  • They need more games to look like Myst not games that play like Myst.

  • navgtr is one heck of a bitch

  • wow, what a fag

myst never made me nerd rage this hard

he's sounds like he's about to bust a nut

  • Comment removed

  • lizzzimerjanen is the boss!

definately most epic comment i've read in a while

  • @LizzziMerjanen Please don't use "fag" as a curse word. I'm gay and I hate when people use "fag" to insult someone. Nothing wrong with being gay.

  • @BimboBoyOfficial im a fag too you know

we fags are allowed to say fag

  • This is the only puzzle I solved when playing it... and I was six back then. I love this game!

  • Am I the only one who found the last book that takes you to the Northpole (or where ever it is, it's snowing)? There's a Polarlight-machine and a hidden room with a note from Catherine! Solve the last puzzle there for a surprise...

  • I figured out, that it just works for the 3D-version, but worth trying it out!

  • i beat the space shuttle at 6 years old in like 10 seconds

write down the keys then hum the notes idiot

  • WHAT THE BLOODY HELL IS WRONG WITH THIS ASSHOLE?!?! yeah, i hate the spaceship puzzle, but still! it's Myst! Myst is awesome!!

  • wow. what a dushe.. im sorry but i found that game fun when i was at age six! sure the sapce ship took a while but i got it!!

  • this game pisses me off, im supposed to enter the number of mailbox things in the star chair,, there are 6 mailboxes,, why is there a million different thing in which to enter numbers,, fuck this game

  • there are eight!!!

  • ok , so there are 6 places to enter numbers in the star chair, do i divide the number of mailboxes and enter a nuumber for each slot>?

  • no, you enter 08 into the topographical viewer (go thru the door right on the dock on Myst island) and turn around like you're going to leave the room, and there's a note on the wall. look at that and there should be a button. press that and there'll be a place where you can enter the 08

that'll give you a mesage from Atrus, but that's about it

  • o ok thanks

  • no prob, i hope it helps.

you might can find the guide book on ebay, too

  • well fuck u 2

  • i don't think it ever occured to anyone that myst is short to mystery

  • Never have I seen a more retarded movie. May MYST for PlayStation be bad, the Mac, PC and iPhone-Versions are very great and the game itself including its successors (RIVEN, MYST III Exile, MYST IV Revelation, MYST V End of Ages) are, as someone said before, a must have.

Poor guy, go in for ego shooter-games or similar things. It might be better for you

  • #1Myst was made for PC and Mac.

#2Myst was not sluggish on the PC or Mac.

#3Myst was being developed in 1991 so of course the game's graphics are going to be less than perfect but graphic wise Myst VS Supermario World hmm which is more life like?

#4The space ship. Yeah I remember doing that but god it was not that hard. All you have to do is just focus on the sounds.

#5I have played Myst on both PC and Mac both can save your game.

#6Don't judge a computer game when your little PS cant do it.

  • This game used to scare me when I was pretty young

Also we got ours on an old Mac, meaning it took 5-10 seconds to load a screen, but we didn't give a shit.

  • pc version loads a lot faster than the play station, and i had absolutely no trouble with the rocket ship part, i just had to hum the notes so that i enter them in correctly...

  • somebody needs a hug

  • You fail. I beat this game in 3 days, with a pencil and pad of paper. Try rational thinking, it might do you some good, provided you have any metal capacity left after such a lacking and thoughtless review.

  • great game

  • You sir are a moron. Myst fuckin rocks.

  • I agree, the game was fun and challenging. I beat it too and i was like 12 years old lmao

  • Maybe.. i should see gameplays before i fucking buy pieces of shit games.. FUCK MY LIFE,, 20$ down the drain.

  • What an idiot. My dad played this on the MAC back in 1996 and beat it in a few days.

  • the problem with the game being so slow to move was becuase it was developed so early in the 90s before games really had the technology to move fast between screens

  • wtf? this guy is stupid, i beat the game (no help) and i'm freaking 11

  • nerd talking about an asshole game

  • fuk u dude..haha i liked the game

  • myst... is bad? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  • i think it is an amazing game and my teacher liked it so much me and my whole class are playing together and even writing a diary to go with it !!! it rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow i didnt think there would be anyone dumb enough or tasteless enough to say myst sucks, its an absolute classic undoubtly still played a lot even in despite of its age.

  • I don't get what's so difficult about the spaceship puzzle. You play the notes, and you reproduce the same sounds on the levers. It could be a problem if you are tone deaf though.

  • What the hell is wrong with this guy? The organ puzzle is one of the easiest. This guy really has no taste, and is obviously not very smart.

  • you guys have no taste of PC classics!!!! >:(

  • The Playstation version is horrible BUT NOT THE GAME ITSELF! The PC version ran everytime smoothly! He tests the Playstation version and because it's slow he says that the game's rubbish! ...idiot...

  • the trick with the spaceship is to it by number not sound

  • This review's horrible.

  • lol this guys is an idiot.

  • Bollocks. Myst is one of the finest games ever created. I particularly enjoyed the spaceship puzzle :)

And that's an electric organ, not a harpsichord.

  • Fuck! Myst is a masterpiece. WTF is this guy talking about? What does is want? A baby game so he can play it easily? Dumb commenting by this guy. See the fans the game has. Its because its good. If it werent that good it wouldnt have fans like it has. Cheers to all myst fans and others!

  • Perhaps he was just unfortunate playing the Playstation version? They optimised the image and video sizes on the original PC/Mac version so that the game wouldn't be slow, even on 2x CD ROM drives!

I agree with your point though - it was the No. 1 selling computer game until The Sims overtook it... that's got to be saying something!!

  • i completely skipped the selecntic age on myst. i went striaight from the channelwood age to dunny

  • That is not possible without outside knowledge. You need a fifth red or blue page so that one of the brothers can tell you the fireplace combination.

  • Myst was released in 1993. By the time I was 5 I had the motor skills to play this game, and yes, the music code is a pain in the ass, but I could do it with some patience...5 YEARS OLD, and I could get that music code to work. Also, do not play it on the Playstation. Myst and its sequels are point-and-click adventures at heart, and should remain so. The decision to take the games off the computer was a massive mistake, since, obviously, console gamers can't handle it.

  • real myst is better :p
