ive been playing rift for the last 2 days. and i actually like it, granted it has flaws of its own, started playing wow maybe 2 months before BC was released, and i think once all the imba's were fixed and everything was spelled out for you is when it lost its fun.. to me at least, Best part of Rift is deff the 3 talent trees. first mmo thats even comparable to wow in my experience and ive played champions, allods, crimecraft, and a bunch more definitley give rift the time of day and trail it

@superfunfrankenstein If 11 million people continue playing WoW - obviously your comment there is inaccurate. :-) Rift is not really a good game, and I'm playing it atm. The PvP sucks, the PvE is too easy, the mechanics of the game are just like WoW, and the server I'm on is dead. The game is also too dynamic, so there is no clear picture on which spec to go for as a tank, PvEr or a PvPer. Clerics and rogues can tank? Mages can heal? O.o Wtf... this game is a bit OTT imo, I can see it fail......
Old players well switch or just play wow Less than they used to, Wotlk players who still didnt play wow for too long well stick to wow, how ever a new player who never played an MMO before well rather play Rift.
Agree with straightupsmalls, besides WoW from 1-85 takes maximum a week casual playtime. Rift can also be fast leveling if you know how to do it. I have several high level characters.

@superfunfrankenstein While I agree that they're not quite the same generation, PC mmo's are unique in that their engine, mechanics, are often altered drastically after release. The same can't really be said for most console games, or various PC shooters/rpgs.
Trying to pin down an mmo's "generation" is imo much more based upon its initial influences. For example, Everquest I primarily because it drew off of Meridian for its playstyle and Ultima Online and other early mmos for its content..

To say that Rift isn't dovetailing off of WoW would be a lie, and a deluded one at that. Trion studios did the smart thing, except that the game is very and heavily dependent on the right type of high end PC build. Two gigs of ram recommended....4 ideal? It's a graphics hog which is why it's not as reliable as WoW. You can play WoW on a 5yr old gig, this very one feature adds millions to the cause.
Why am i seeing talk of halo in a rift video? Halo is the most overrated piece of shit game in the history of gaming (excluding the original xbox release).
@superfunfrankenstein This happened to AOC too. Though, AOC was released at the worse possible timing: Unfinished and when WOTLk released. The most active time in AOC was the very first month, in the end I ran around on my horse for 6 houres only to see 1 botter.

@Earl69er rogue, and mage... just like WoW, cleric as to priest are healers and so forth, and mage I think in Rift has a spec to heal as well... I think Rift will be better than WoW when I get a chance to get my hands on the disc.

Thanks for stating the fucking obvious. Many games have tried to overcome World Of Warcraft by creating shitty fail engines that have all sucked, just because this game uses similar mechanism and interface it does not mean it should be downrated for any reasons. They just upgrade what has been working for the past 6-7 years. The graphics win. The invasions are definitely something that washes away the boring continuity that WoW has shamefully created. The classes... needless to say.

Like the DoT-Lock-Spec on RIFT, you got2move and almost everything is casted instant...so it depends on your gameplay skills and not the game. In WoW you can also just stand on a point and cast. This actually reminds me of WoW, now don't get me wrong, it's not a negative thing, i have played WoW, i like it, but also like this game. Now really, how can a MMO these days not remind you of WoW? MMO's are supposed to be like this, because WoW is just a stereotypical MMO. I think the game is brilliant and unique, but also combines good aspects from WoW.
The only thing that is different than wow is character class/customization. I LOVE IT! the fact that you have like 10 different subclasses that you can pick and choose from... I mean RIFT might actually break away from cookie cutter builds... If you guys ever played Shadowbane (awsome game!) the char creation was similar and it made the game so that not 20 people all had same specs.

I play WoW have been for 4 years now i recently picked up the beta for this game and love it! I won't be quitting wow or putting this above wow nor in my opinion is it better in wow but its damn near close and i plan to play it in my spare time. I can only play the same game for so long before its time for a different change in scenery =P

When you enter a pre-order key it takes you to the subscription pricing. The prices are "Founders" pricing and good until March 15th I believe. After that, I imagine there wont be reduced 3 and 6 month subscriptions.

Reminds me a little of Aion, which people also say is a copy of WoW. But let's just be honest here most people that play WoW will forever claim that every MMO that comes out from now on is just a WoW clone.(I said most, I played for over 2 years) The class system looks truly unique and the enviornment looks amazing. Not so sure about the actual gameplay though. Wouldn't mind giving it a try however with GW2 coming out and Cataclysm I doubt this game has much of a chance. Damn shame though.
@AKiren47 I am using this game to get away from WoW. Mainly to bridge the gap between now and SWTOR's release. Id have to say though , this game has a lot to offer. From the few hours i played in the last beta event , it is safe to say that the class system is amazing. Thus you wont play the same way for more than a few weeks on one character (if you decide to switch out his/her class sub-types). In reality you only need 4 characters , 1 of each main-type , then just switch around their builds.
I am already 85 and finished all the new quests.. within a few weeks / month.
After 3 (4) new upgrades, I get a bit tired of looking at a patch, what makes the new greens better than the (for instance) the ICC gear farmed. and becouse I am not playing so often (dad, kid, social life (really)) it was hard to get there and move with the other players (not that's a must, but still)
I think (i just received a invite for the beta) that it's a nice alternative to look futher.
If anything this game looks like Aion & Runes of Magic if they had a baby. World of Warcraft is something completely different and so is this. Only this comparable is the factions and how its Blue & Red. If you really want to compare a game to WoW, would be Warhammer Online. Even that was a bust.
Just because WoW is the most popular MMORPG out there doesn't mean they didn't steal any ideas from other games. WoW wasn't the first MMORPG ever. And I love when companies "steal" ideas from eachothers. WoW has 12 million subscribers, so they are probably doing SOMETHING right, why not take the thing that WoW does best, and combine it with your own ideas? Awesome game incomming

@superfunfrankenstein This happened to AOC too. Though, AOC was released at the worse possible timing: Unfinished and when WOTLk released. The most active time in AOC was the very first month, in the end I ran around on my horse for 6 houres only to see 1 botter.
I am myself a veteran WoW player, and look at the ocne great game in shame. I wish it could die out, and let another game have time to shine for more than a month.

@superfunfrankenstein How I would loe that WoW would go down .. but no, there is still too many subscribers. This happens every MMO:
1) New MMO comes, half of WoW populations leaves, everybody finds the game awesome.
2) Some people find some bugs, even though the game just released - they leave
3) More people leave
4) Only a few thousand plays X MMO.
5) WOW is back and running, where half of the player pays, but doesn't play ( yeah, I am guilty :( )

Honestly, this game looks like nothing that WoW would do. I never thought you can go more than like.... 6 traits of one class, which is super cool. I seriously would want to try this out, I haven't played an MMO for like 2 - 3 years since BC ended.

@Earl69er rogue, and mage... just like WoW, cleric as to priest are healers and so forth, and mage I think in Rift has a spec to heal as well... I think Rift will be better than WoW when I get a chance to get my hands on the disc.

Thanks for stating the fucking obvious. Many games have tried to overcome World Of Warcraft by creating shitty fail engines that have all sucked, just because this game uses similar mechanism and interface it does not mean it should be downrated for any reasons. They just upgrade what has been working for the past 6-7 years. The graphics win. The invasions are definitely something that washes away the boring continuity that WoW has shamefully created. The classes... needless to say.

Me and my four friends have all played wow, the same server all lvl 85s, now we're all starting on Rift!

well in wow pvp, if your a caster you don't really have to move around a whole lot sense you can cast through cliffs ,trees,giant rocks, buildings and other shit, in rift you cant do that which is nice because it makes more sense

@killerantacone Well, it depends...in PvE it is (like in WoW) not allways nessecary to move...but if you dont move in PvP and just cast ur shit, u'll get pwned. Yea, thats not a good pvp gameplay there, but its also not ment to be. Like the DoT-Lock-Spec on RIFT, you got2move and almost everything is casted instant...so it depends on your gameplay skills and not the game. In WoW you can also just stand on a point and cast. You're just going to die.

This actually reminds me of WoW, now don't get me wrong, it's not a negative thing, i have played WoW, i like it, but also like this game. Now really, how can a MMO these days not remind you of WoW? MMO's are supposed to be like this, because WoW is just a stereotypical MMO. I think the game is brilliant and unique, but also combines good aspects from WoW.

The only thing that is different than wow is character class/customization. I LOVE IT! the fact that you have like 10 different subclasses that you can pick and choose from... I mean RIFT might actually break away from cookie cutter builds... If you guys ever played Shadowbane (awsome game!) the char creation was similar and it made the game so that not 20 people all had same specs.

I play WoW have been for 4 years now i recently picked up the beta for this game and love it! I won't be quitting wow or putting this above wow nor in my opinion is it better in wow but its damn near close and i plan to play it in my spare time. I can only play the same game for so long before its time for a different change in scenery =P

@surdect Yeah, forget Guild Wars and play this. I've been playing Beta and just the Beta is better than any of the MMO's I've played. And ive played Guild Wars, WoW, and Warhammer. Considering this, its better than all of them.

When you enter a pre-order key it takes you to the subscription pricing. The prices are "Founders" pricing and good until March 15th I believe. After that, I imagine there wont be reduced 3 and 6 month subscriptions.

@Aizuaka Exactly, every game has taken certain aspects from games before, I'm just sick of people acting like WoW is %100 original and never used any ideas from previous MMO's like Everquest, Lineage, L2, AoC, FFXI and the original second generation MMO Ultima. Reminds me a little of Aion, which people also say is a copy of WoW. But let's just be honest here most people that play WoW will forever claim that every MMO that comes out from now on is just a WoW clone.(I said most, I played for over 2 years) The class system looks truly unique and the enviornment looks amazing. Not so sure about the actual gameplay though. Wouldn't mind giving it a try however with GW2 coming out and Cataclysm I doubt this game has much of a chance. Damn shame though.

@AKiren47 I am using this game to get away from WoW. Mainly to bridge the gap between now and SWTOR's release. Id have to say though , this game has a lot to offer. From the few hours i played in the last beta event , it is safe to say that the class system is amazing. Thus you wont play the same way for more than a few weeks on one character (if you decide to switch out his/her class sub-types). In reality you only need 4 characters , 1 of each main-type , then just switch around their builds.

I am already 85 and finished all the new quests.. within a few weeks / month.
After 3 (4) new upgrades, I get a bit tired of looking at a patch, what makes the new greens better than the (for instance) the ICC gear farmed. and becouse I am not playing so often (dad, kid, social life (really)) it was hard to get there and move with the other players (not that's a must, but still)
I think (i just received a invite for the beta) that it's a nice alternative to look futher.

If anything this game looks like Aion & Runes of Magic if they had a baby. World of Warcraft is something completely different and so is this. Only this comparable is the factions and how its Blue & Red. If you really want to compare a game to WoW, would be Warhammer Online. Even that was a bust.

Just because WoW is the most popular MMORPG out there doesn't mean they didn't steal any ideas from other games. WoW wasn't the first MMORPG ever. And I love when companies "steal" ideas from eachothers. WoW has 12 million subscribers, so they are probably doing SOMETHING right, why not take the thing that WoW does best, and combine it with your own ideas? Awesome game incomming

Why do you see so many 'WoW clones'? Because WoW is popular, they have alot of good ideas, they simply work. Whats wrong with improving upon what already works though?
