God is an old name. But in your heart, your soul, your mind, your emotionality, is new. Because you even call forth the atoms you exist as. You flick in and out of existence every, and unit of time.
It is as beautiful as the full score. The one I saw published by Oxford? was about 2 feet tall. The opening looks like a descending cloud of notes as the music moves from choir 1 to choir 8.
""SPEM IN ALIUM numquam habui praeter in te Deus Israel qui irasceris et propitius eris et omnia peccata hominum in tribulatione dimittis.Domine Deus Creator coeli et terra respice humilitatem nostram.
HOPE IN ANY OTHER have I never had, save in Thee, O God of Israel, Thee who will be angry and yet become again gracious and who forgiveth all the sins of suffering man. Lord God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, look upon our lowliness."
(Adapted from the Book of Judith for the Sarum rite).
I'm normally not a huge fan of Tallis' music, perhaps because those Angles tend to perform it in a rather sterile fashion (compared with Italian music at least), but this is heavenly.
I agree. Tudor English Choral music does tend to be rather sterile or 'spare'. But it has its moments of approaching divinity--as here. Quite an argument in favour of cross-cultural exchanges, I would say.
This piece - indeed, the whole CD collection - is one of my favourite pieces of music

@JSBach90 Do you believe in the objectivity of aesthetic judgments? I don't. But I agree with this particular judgment of yours on this motet . :)

@KompasBerg why do you translate Coelum with Heaven? It's not the obvious, I'd say Sky. Or is from a more evident Hebraic or Greek text?

I prefer the Oxford Camerata's interpretation but Spem in Alium is pretty much the best song ever made no matter who performs it.
