Roadrunner and Wil. E. Coyote cartoons were the funniest cartoons ever made. I ALWAYS just bust out laughing at every expression that Wil E. makes after the roadrunner turns on the afterburners. lol.
I also used to watch cartoon pictures (not animations) on film when I was young.. I dunno, I think I was 5, uhh... It was very interesting for me to see the film, I never thought such thing existed, I only knew that there is TV and that there is VHS, u know, a film like that seemed very exciting to me...

@sparkytrick That's wasn't what I said. I have contacts but wear my glasses on occasion. I'm not a nerd though. James actually said the he doesn't wear glasses in real life. And it features him without glasses in the Zelda Timeline review intro.
@ComedyStanCam Oh yeah you may be right. But which video did he say he didn't wear glases in? He might have just not felt like putting in contacts for this video too, I don't wear mine on weekends. Maybe it is a character though.
you should put your own page and called classic flickers.... because is very cool stuf you have... you know like openflix. you have good material and i'll be watching ... thanks for good times.
Ha ha! funny , James was playing two Looney Toon shorts involving babies and the stork , the first clip was ``Baby Bottleneck'' 2:22 and the other was ``A Mouse Divided'' at 2:33. This is some really nifty stuff!
I have no choice. I want to watch things on VHS, because I have (or had) some irreplaceable things on VHS, but since I no longer have them, or a tape player, I have no choice but to watch DVDs, which is nice, but I would like some "novelty".
At the beginning where you and Matt ponder why you like to watch 16mm films. Well, i'd say it's as simple as the nostalgic value of it. You know (or do you know?) like, digging up a real NES from the back of the closet to play games on.
(the do you know part was just a side notation or something, since you play NES games regularly. at least you play more of them than new games.)
ha, I think I understand it, I like to listen to music on vinyl because it's the real deal, it's analogue audio, no digital manipulation. It feels very different, it's exiting, it sounds "warm" and "alive", while digital audio sounds "cold" and "plastic" and "fake". hmm...it's like the 80s "the fly" movie, remember the teleported-meat scene?. the guy says it tastes horrible because unlike the "real" meat, it's "the computer's version of it". well, something like that. analogue is the real thing
Speaking of funny things to happen with film I was watching Poltergeist on halloween at the local cinema that they dug out of their archives. The first third of the movie ran fine then the second third or second reel ran backwards and upside down and took the staff a while to notice. Watching a little girl slide backwards upside down with sound in reverse with a full confused cinema was hilarious
Hey James, besides film size, is there any major difference between 16mm and 8mm film? Just nabbed a working 8mm projector at an antique store for $6 and thinking of collecting for it.

it will smell like vinigar because the chemicals used for developement ( much like an old phototgraph) has the smell of vinagar which supossidly presserves the film longer.
It's like collecting records I guess, except that records really do sound better than CDs or other digital formats if they've been well-preserved. Don't know if that's true about film vs DVDs?
With DVD you're relying on a digital format, so the video goes trough compression: There's frameskips, interlaces, and the larger the screen, the more pixelated and obvious the artifacts become
With film, it's an uncompressed, unedited, raw format... Meaning you can get a larger screen simply by moving the projector away and replacing the lens, also there's no such thing as pixels!
However, film gets dusty and other things, wich might get in the way!
@Terryracoon before reading anymore, realize that I probably think much the same way as you.
technically, there are pixels on film - the grains.
as far compression, god damn... I've spent arguably a little too long on DIYAudio and all kinds of places like that. It's handy for MP3's and demonstrates how much information can be chopped out with a human still being happy with the result, but before we touch compression, CG needs banning. lazy tarts, that's not a film, it's a computer game.
I really miss those cartoons I never see those classics played at all on TV anymore. The kids of this new generation are really going to miss out and I'm only 27.
