Lebron James is a freak of nature who ever said Mario Williams was more athletic than he was needs to get slapped. James has a 43 or 44 inch vertical and has a 4.5 or 4.4 speed. At 6'8 and 250+. Seriously who's the dumbass that said that. He's more talented than NFL players
@tuyuka39 Ture. Football is pure "man" athleticism. Basketball is a good balance of athleticism and skill. Soccer and baseball is pure skill. Different sports at different spectrums.
@TheFireArc The 100m dash can't be converted into a 40-yard dash because the 40--yard dash is more about acceleration off the block and short-length speed. The 100m dash is primarily about maintaining a steady speed throughout the distance. 10.6 is definitely a fast time for the 100m dash, but many NFL players have had faster times than that.
@TheFireArc I have to respectfully disagree with you. Most of these players coming out of college run track as well. Jacoby ford, trindon holliday, ted ginn have all run the 100m in 10flat, jeff demps 10flat and a wind aided 9.96 and those are the ones ive actually heard of, there could have been other players to run close to that but are not big names in college football. Calvin johnson is a freak 44-45 in vertical, 4.3 40, and 10.23 100m all at 6'5 240. Recently Marvin bracy 17 yrs old 10.05
hahaha if Lebron had a 48 inch vertical then he can touch over 12 feet. He can just get his head a little bit higher than the rim so he has a vertical of about 40 inches.
The bottom line is football and basketball are very different sports. In high school, I had a friend on my team that would end up later playing professional football for six years. Also, started two years at Penn State. In high school he ran a 4.3 40 and a sub 10.4 100m, but when he was asked to guard me in practice I would just go right by him. I was a division I basketball player, but no even close to NBA caliber.
Lebron is a freak, but he's not freakish enough like Calvin or most NFL players. Hell, he's not even close to Mario Williams level. I mean William is 6'6, 300 lbs. He has a higher vertical leap than Lebron James. Also, JJ Watt is also 6'6, 295 lbs and he has a 37 inch vertical. Not to mention, Mario Williams and JJ Watts are on the same team.
@kdee1912 Soccer players do have exceptional skill. They also probably have one of the highest needs for explosiveness of any sport. (Separating from defenders, going up for headers, sprinting down field after clears, etc.) However, American football players are extremely explosive as well.
@Rudio213021 shut the fuck up you guys have a cardeo sport you don't have to jump high or bench 2-3 times your bodyweight and run at least a 4.6 40 yard dash. When the hell do soccer players care about how much they clean? Bench? Squat? You guys have to work on agility, cardeo, and the skills for the game. Football you have to work on upperbody strangth, lower body and core strangth, agility, sprinting, film, skills, and also your plays.
better athletes than even the receivers are the defensive ends. Having to combine speed quickness and strength while pushing against someone much heavier and stronger. Sucks
@samauripizzacats101 I have to give the best athletes in the NFL - defensive linemen. That size, speed and strength is unreal. D-Backs are not as athletic as receivers - they are usually receivers that either can't catch or can't remember or run good routes.
@buteaux34 fuck no DBs one of the most athletic postions (other then both offence and defence linemen) out there because there normaly shorter then recivers so they must be strong, faster, smarter, and jump higher then them. But the best athlete in my mind are running backs they have to be as fast at a reciver (4.3-4.5 speed) be as agile as a DB (4.1-4.3 speed) and be as strong if not stronger then a Linebacker.
@YodaJake16 I agree, I was just trying to get someones blood going haha. My buddy is a cornerback in the NFL, and he is athletics as can be. However - and check this out if you want to - the most "explosive" athletes in the world are ... Olympic class shot putters. They did a test, and they have more fast twitch fibers naturally then any other athlete - this is a generalism, of course there are exceptions, but that was a test of over 1000 types of athletes.
@buteaux34 hahahahaha you got me!! haha They are very explosive so are olymipc lifters But thats a given they compete in cleans, snatch, jerks. so i guess that dosen't count haha
@buteaux34 hell naw db's are far more athletic than recievers think how much faster and quicker you have to be to run with someone who already knows where they are going and you must react to their move. dbs dont catch good as recievers because they dont practice catching as much. You could say a receiver is usually a db that cant tackle or doesnt have good hips.
the average skill positioned football player is better then pretty much any athlete in the world in terms of athleticism. Football has the greatest athletes in the world reason being they can run the fastest (other then sprinters) they can jump higher than most basketball players and and more agile and strong then nba players by faaar. Shaquille oneil isnt even as strong as the average nfl player who is 10 inches shorter then him
they can't out run or jump the elite long jumpers in the world, and running and jumping are the two skills that determine "athletic ability". I agree however that among the mainstream American sports, football players are the best athletes, mainly due to the training they perform in the weight room.
@elurseeknay Incorrect - Michael Wilson of Missipi State had a recorded 52 inch vertical - he was 6'6" and could dunk on a 12' basketball goal - He plays for the globe trotters now - also, a few nfl defensive players have higher verts than randy moss if I am not mistaken - some in the mid 40 inch range, I cant remember who but a linebacker with a 40 plus inch vert is what stood out in my mind.
@reid125 Your reasoning is not correct - athleticism by your definition would veer to decathletes being the best athletes in the world - ironically i was a world ranked decathlete and knew a few olympians and played basketball with them and their coordination was funny although they could fricken dunk better than basketball players.
Athleticism is all perspective - I would venture to say off-guards and small forwards in the NBA would be hella top of the charts athlete wise.
@reid125 size wise Lebron is more athletic than all of the NFL, shaquille for his size was a fuckin monster, he had a 32 inch vertical and was pretty damn fast. Basketball isn't about who's strongest anyways its a finesse sport that takes skill
@Basch152 I wouldn't say entirely, but for the most part you are right. he's not that bad with his back to the basket, his outside jumper was better this year. He doesn't move without the ball because for the first 25 years of his life the ball was always in his hands. I changed my mind about this whole subject like a week ago anyways. Dwight Freeney is a freak of an athlete (based on combine workout) and he was 260+ pounds. of course all the skill positions, they are all freaks.
@Basch152 Lebrons vert is 38 inches and run a 4.40 40. calvins stats are a little better in both. However Lebron is a lot bigger, its pretty close. idk AP stuff so i won't comment about him. Size matters, less often do you see people of extreme size be that athletic.
@JoeyFerguson3 As I said... less athletic than calvin...
Also, lebron is 3 inches taller than Calvin, that's not "a lot bigger".
But that wasn't even my main point. My point was you saying the NBA is a "finesse sport" despite the fact that LeBron has no finesse whatsoever and mearly relies on his athleticism.
@Basch152 lebron is 6`8 and 260. Calvin is 6`5 235. U expect Calvin to be faster and jump higher. Also Lebron over the last 2 years has stopped relying on his driving game and more on his jumpers. He doesn`t use his athletism that much.
@Cheema0113 No, he shouldn't be able to jump higher because lebron is taller. I don't get where people get these things from.
Lebrons extra weight is from his height, and pure muscle, calvin is just more athletic.
And doesn't use his athleticism that much? Are you fucking kidding me dude? That's all he does. I never see him use any form of skill set. He occasionally takes long range jumpers, but he sucks at them.
@Basch152 He probably mean that each player needs to have a larger skill set then any football player. In football, a player is required to do one of a few things: run, push, catch, or throw. In basketball, one player could be asked to do all four of those things (sub pass for throw) with the addition of other skills like dribble, shoot.
@reid125 You maybe right, but if god came to me and let me choose anybody's genetics to be a football player. I would choose Lebron James with out a doubt.
in terms of athleticism? I don't know if football is. They might have the most explosive players but I don't know about the most athletic players. No sport really outshines the other in terms of athleticism.
@reid125 Football's skill position athletes are top tier in terms of the overall combination of speed, explosiveness, and strength no doubt. BUT, I would have to argue that the NBA gets the creme de la creme of athletes when look at most guards/swing man position players. I think this is evidenced by the fact that a guard/small forward NBA player would be much more readily converted into a WR or TE in the NFL than the other way around. Look at Antonio Gates for example.
@reid125 Australian footballers have the best all round skill because they basically need to be able to play in every position but head to head they would be beaten by a specialized NFL player in every position just because there too well rounded, that being said i see NFL players struggling to run 100 yards when even the least fit Australian players run about 6-7 miles on average per game
Lebron James looks like he's 80 years old. I wonder if he's like those people on television back in the 80s would had that rare disease where they age a billion times the speed of sound. That fucker will be drinking Ensure and walking with a cane by the time he's 30.
man this guy could play in the nba hes a wideout so we know he could catch hard passes and hes quick and gotta pretty good size i wonder if he ever thought about going to the nba
and this guy could not play in the NBA trust me go to hoopsmixtape or watch and 1 streetball and you'll see alot of guy's who aren't in the NBA who jump higher are taller and have way more skills like the air up there guess he sould a been in the NBA.
UR A DUMBASS... basketball isnt all about North to South speed. U also need east to west speed. Yes CJ can accelerate but turning corners faster than nba SF???? please u obviously dont know shit
dude u could possibly be the dumbest cunt on youtube! cj would be the most athletic player in the nba! no possible way that any sf is faster or quicker than him an any sort of race. and if his 42.5 verticle is standing then think if hes running down the floor and dunks, his head would be over a foot above the rim. use your brain next time simpleton!
ldc you are stupid as hell. If you seriously think NFL players lack the lateral quickness of NBA players then you are retarded. This other guy is exaggerating a bit with the head above the rim thing but you are just down right stupid to say that NBA players are faster than NFl players, especially Calvin Johnson.
Ur retarded if u think the avg. lateral speed of NFL players are better than the avg. lateral speed of NBA players. Obviously there are exceptions to this dumbass cuz im stating the avg.. U mite be the dumbest person ever
This is the first time you have stated avg on the entire post so don't blame me cuz you were too dumb to state this before. Now if you are stating the avg then yes, BBall does have on avg much quicker players because 3/5 players in the NBA are guards or SF's, but if you matched CJ against many NBA SF's or Darren Sproles against Chris Paul you would see that football players have just as good if not better lateral quickness than BBall players. Give credit where credit is due.apreciate all sports.
Hockey junkie? I know more about Football Soccer and Basketball than i do Hockey but I still know tons about that as well. I'm surprised that you were able to tell from my user name that I like hockey. Like I said before, you should learn to appreciate all sports.
actually if u do the math (which i have), if CJ jumped while standing right under a basketball rim he would come within 8 inches of this head hitting the rim, i dont think its to far of a stretch to say his head would be above the rim if he had a running start
actually champ if you do the math he's 77 inches tall. add in 42.5 inches of his vertical (but sometimes could be higher) that equals 119.5. the rim is 120. with any sort of running aproach his head would easily be over the rim
well, he has the ups to do those dunks, but we don't know if he has the body control to. and yeah, this was a bad jump, he has maxed before at around 45.
if lebrons vertical was not over 35 he would not be an athletic freak did you know jj reddick has a 34 inch vertical but can barely pull off any dunks alot of retards on this site.
Airburn are u retarded... theres no way he would be the best dunker ever.. Lebron james is taller, with longer arms.. and he can jump pretty much just as high.. and he actually PLAYS basketball and knows how to dunk

Nate Robinson only has a 35.5" vertical
With a stepping start its 43.5", but it doesn't count because he's given a running start, they do that in NBA combines (cheaters)
In the NBA Combine's history, the highest vertical is only 39.5"
In the NFL Combine, the highest vertical was 46"
And before you say: NBA players are taller, well NFL players are heavier (more weight means its harder to jump high).
Proof: draftexpress(dot)com/nba-pre-draft-measurements/
Then sort by "NO STEP VERT"

Ur retarded if u think the avg. lateral speed of NFL players are better than the avg. lateral speed of NBA players. Obviously there are exceptions to this dumbass cuz im stating the avg.. U mite be the dumbest person ever
ldc62 3 years ago
This is the first time you have stated avg on the entire post so don't blame me cuz you were too dumb to state this before. Now if you are stating the avg then yes, BBall does have on avg much quicker players because 3/5 players in the NBA are guards or SF's, but if you matched CJ against many NBA SF's or Darren Sproles against Chris Paul you would see that football players have just as good if not better lateral quickness than BBall players. Give credit where credit is due.apreciate all sports.

Ok clearly u have no idea what ur talking bout... hockey junkie
ldc62 3 years ago
Hockey junkie? I know more about Football Soccer and Basketball than i do Hockey but I still know tons about that as well. I'm surprised that you were able to tell from my user name that I like hockey. Like I said before, you should learn to appreciate all sports.
phaneufowns 3 years ago
Yea i obviously know who Phaneuf is cuz i live in Calgary and even tho im not a huge fan of the NHL i still know something bout Hockey

dont worry bout it... i had no idea what im talking bout either
ldc62 2 years ago
actually if u do the math (which i have), if CJ jumped while standing right under a basketball rim he would come within 8 inches of this head hitting the rim, i dont think its to far of a stretch to say his head would be above the rim if he had a running start
GtechATL21 2 years ago
actually champ if you do the math he's 77 inches tall. add in 42.5 inches of his vertical (but sometimes could be higher) that equals 119.5. the rim is 120. with any sort of running aproach his head would easily be over the rim
alcitydan08 2 years ago
last time i checked .5 inches is within 8 inches....so yes i was right
GtechATL21 2 years ago
@alcitydan08 you add his arm reach to his height for vertical
myapollo23 1 year ago

RTLM09 4 years ago
shit it didn't look like he got 42.5 inces off the ground...but that can be for two reasons...
1) when they measure standing reach they put two hands up
2) so damn explosive it happened so fast!
