Luckily I only had very mild dyspraxia, meaning I had to work on throwing, catching, balancing under sporting conditions (though those three are still fairly shit) and that kind of stuff. I'm realising that I'm fortunate to not have it affecting my speech and mobility, and a sympathise with anyone who had the condition.
I'm 21 and I have known that I have dyspraxia since I was a child. Thankfully I don't have difficulty with my balance, but when I write (in my own language: Dutch) or talk you can see/hear that my sentence structure is wrong. And right now I'm having difficulty with learning to drive and troubles at work. But if you give someone with dyspraxia your patience and time. That person can achieve many things he/she want to. But it just needs time
@klieko1990 I am 20 and have dyspraxia too, I have a lot of trouble at work, remembering things, communicating etc and really struggled at school. However, you are correct, people who have dyspraxia are capable of being very bright and creative. You just need time and space.
im 12 and have dyspraxia,,i act the exact same,,i found out 2 yrs ago,,i cant do the same as my friends like go out and ride a bike,,ive only just learnt to tie my shoelases so if any1 has any ideas to help me do anything please reply thankyou x -3
i have verbal and motor dyspraxia, i think the verbel part is very severe and the motor part is abit more than mild if that makes any sense?? anyway...i made a couple of vids about dyspraxia so check them out :) and dont forget to comment :) hehe
I have Dyspraxia and my balence was awful for instance i was walking in the playground and out of nowhere i just triped ove and smashed my front tooth into two pieces and another problem is that as i am now fifteen i have had and am still having problems with maths, so much so i usually break down and cry in anger as my dream is to study medicine but i dont know if you can be a Doctor if you have dyspraxia
His mum has the perfect idea of what dyspraxia is- intelligence is high, physical is low the rest is frustration.
@marinatraducceri maybe you should take him to see local GP? with a diagnoses lots of help can be offered. As for the pencil grips I got mine from staples, (haha, I'm 13 and I still need them to be write.)
If anyone does need help with dyspraxia I would suggest looking at the dyspraxia foundation they offer help to adults and children and sell some good books. :P
Hi, I'm 23 years old and I have had many of those symptoms that are described in this video, and for the first time in my life I seem to have an answer on where all my problems come from.
Hi. I'm from Romania, my son seems to have the same problems. Here there is no help that we can get, save for their saying that "he's lazy" and so on. I've seen your video and I am so very interested in finding the pencil grabs you showed on the video that you use for helping your child with writing. This is a big problem with my son, and as you said he is becoming frustrated seeing he cannot do it. Could you please let me know where can I find such pencil grabs? Many thanks in advance.
im 17 and people have called my writing ugly all my life, my mother used to beat me for it i was always ridiculed for everything i did and people told me that i looked retarded no matter what i was doing it feels good to know that its not my fault so i can stop beating my self up over it
i am a dyspraxic and it is very irratating im 13 and my handwriting is imbarrisingly bad and hasnt changed since i was 9 if you where to compare work from now and then the handwriteing is the same i hope i can improve this video has helped me in understanding my condition/problem .........
My son was recently Diagnosed as Dyspraxic at 9 years old. I have been fightitng with doctors for years and now they have finally realised that there was indeed a problem. This has severly affected my son's sensory and everyday life. He still cannot ride his bike nor swim. I saw this swing in this clip and would love to find out where to get one.
We are working with a OT and Speech therapist as will as physio and his school.
For years I have guessed my son is ADHD, fighting for diagnosis but now I have stumbled across Dyspraxia and it is making me question it all. It all sounds very familuar, any ideas what IS the difference between the two? x
I’d never heard of it before until yesterday and in a way, it’s a bit shocking to know that my ‘difficulties’, balance, clumsey-ness and so on, there is a condition behind it, not that I should be labelled as the girl who can’t do PE at school, regarded as retarded really in PE lessons.
I was diagnosed with dyslexia late September last year. I had my assessment for dyslexia for my disabled student allowance, hopefully to help with university this year, yesterday. They decided to test for dyspraxia as well, and hey presto, I have it as well.
I wasn't Diagnosed with Dyspraxia till i was 14 and it is very hard for someone with Dyspraxia to do ordinary things..... i often get called lazy befor people know what i suffer with so to see this video brings hope for younger people who suffer with Dyspraxia to make it more known to the masses so they can understand what Dyspraxia is and get to grips with it
But you learn to live with it. Usually only a 'handicap' until about 11 maybe. I wasn't talking until 4 years old and I had bad function with basic motor skills such as catching etc.
Like she said people with dyspraxia learn to live with it and adapt their own way of living. It is kind of a handicap but it is not an excuse not do things.
My son that is 3 1/2 also is dyspraxic. didn't start talking till he was 3 and still is in therapy. He also has a lot of sensory issues. I have some videos on my youtube if you could watch them and let me know if your son is similar.
its 2010 its pathetic that we dont have a cure for it i wanna be a mixed martial artist but it takes me a month to learn anything im pathetic at trying anything its like i have 2 left feet i cant work keys or anything
i am 22 and have dyspraxia, high funtioning autism and a.d.d. this video is a perfect description of how i experience dyspraxia. because of my autism being high funtioning my levels of intelligence are far above what my body is physically capable of, and beause of my a.d.d i can barely be focused on more than one thing for ten minutes. it is all incredibly frustrating and as a result i have problems with anger and depression and anxiety. i am in therapy and making alot of progress,
Ive been told my son has suspected dyspraxia! Hes only 3 and were always trying different things to help him with the problems he encounters! What the woman said about making choices really rang true with me and my wife because if we give my son a choice theres times where he just kicks off because its 2 much for him! People that havent seen it firsthand cant understand properly how hard it is! Anyone else know what i mean?
This is exactly how I experience dyspraxia, looking back at how I was as a child. No one knew of course. Just a struggle. But I'm still here. Good luck James, you have a great foundation , family support to build your life from. I'm sure everything will be fine :)
i have dyspraxia, I live in ireland and about 8 years ago I joined the dyspraxia association of ireland and about 5 years I was diagnosed with dyspraxia and 4 years I helped setup and co-founded the adult support group.
Thank you for this, My daughter who just turned 4 was DX"d with this and Aperixa at 2 years old. she goes threw alot of issues at home and sometimes at school. she will Hit the teachers and me and daddy. all we can do is try our hardest to understand her or she gets frustrated very easy and goes in to a tantrum. she has O.T, and P.T 3 times a week for an hr. each and she also has speech and special instruction 3 times a week for either a half hr or an hr. each session at school.
my son is 10 he has dyspraxia, in all areas, he tries everything, hes on his 2nd season of rugby, it was hard at first but he plays prop and he is quite good at it now, hes been doing karate for 5 years now that has really helped buld muscle tone, it would just be better if they taught teachers what dyspraxia is cause thats where i find the trouble starts
I have dyspraxia and I'm 17, life is very very hard for me, I have had occupational and speech therapy for years, I cannot play sports, I need a scribe for school examinations, and I lapse into depression a lot.
Yet, my life is meaningful, I'm happy, love the world around me and I'm looking forward to the future. Dyspraxia does not mean living a bad life :)
@youdickhed I'm the same, my counsellor thinks I may be dyspraxic but I'm certainly not as bad as this kid because I've managed to get quite far without any sort of diagnosis and I think my problem has only come out under a lot of pressure and now that I'm 22. I think it's interesting that two people who are potential dyspraxics both have awesome youtube handles.
What a FANTASTIC video on Dyspraxia/apraxia.. just awsome! My son has Verbal Dyspraxia, is 25 months in speech therapy.. yet to see if the dyspraxia is motor yet or not.. his overall gross motor skills arent the best. Walked at 18 months, still cant kick a ball at 2 yrs etc etc
Hi There. I have 8 years old boy, walked at 28 months and a lot of gross and fine motor problem, with might be dyspraxia symptoms/verbal dyspraxia. we new to this and would like you to share with us how you diagnose dyspraxia and method of treatment. Tks for your attention
As a parent of a young adult dyspraxic I think this clip is an excellent descriptor of what its like to live with a dyspraxic - wish we could circulate to all of the teaching profession!
if you have dyspraxia you literally have to fight for support at school you can just slip through the net
