Me? 10-4-1, Smokin' Joe. Let it go. Your man did...
respect to joe frazier who fought with one eye and then respect to muhammad ali who took all those punches from smokin joe and i really think this fight is a draw
When you take into consideration the magnitude of the event, the quality of the bout, and the dramatic ending, I think you'd have to call this the greatest fight of all times.
i took up boxing, after watching this fight with my dad ! we have a dvd in our home i aint muhammed ali or frazier, but this fight gave me guts, passion and heart for boxing ! both the fighters rock ! cheers to both of them !
P.S its a sad sight to see muhammed ali these days, parkinsons has ravaged him :(
It was just announced that you have cancer of the liver Joe. You earned the title of World Champion. But, to me, you will always be "Smoken" Joe. Prayers outbound your way.
I like that Smokin' Joe did not wear the white trunks he was entitled to as champion. I like that Ali did not dance -- he may not have been able to at this point -- but instead relied on handspeed, brains, and balls.
after the 1st two rds i have the fight Ali up 1rd to 1 even rd. I thought the fisrt rd was even and the 2nd going to ali. Frazier has great head movement and some very solid body work, his also being very aggressive always coming forward. But i thnk Ali is landing more shots and showing a great jab nice combo punching as well. Very competitive 1st 2 rds. I could see sum pple have Ali up 2rds - 0
Man between this fight and "Rumble In the Jungle" it really shows that Ali liked to grab people. He was a great fighter but damn the refs gotta intervene a lot with him.
ali badly underestmated frazier in this fight, im surprised ali wasnt clean out considering the sheer amount of left hooks he recieved during the bout, excellent fight
If you look into this fight deeply, Frazier spent 3 weeks in the hospital after this fight even though he won. Amazing, if you think about it this victory came at a big cost for Frazier,he only won 5 more bouts and lost 4 after this victory. Even though Frazier won Ali did big damage on him in this fight. The knockdown alone gave Frazier this fight. Amazing rivalry. As good as this fight was Thrilla in Manila is a better fight.
boxing is awesome, and it really gets you in shape. its too bad MMA is taking over. im not saying i hate it. i love MMA, right now more that boxing because right now in boxing no one wants to fight cause everyone is a premadonna.
Truly the BEST boxing rivalry, if not the best sports rivalry...period! Two fighters who were the epitome of their respective styles (out-fighter vs swarmer) and always gave the fans their money's worth. Watching Ali & Fraiser fight has always been like watching poetry in motion to me...absolutely beautiful!
I agree, I think it is the best sports rivalry ever, the reason being, it consists of two individuals who personally hated each rather than two teams that have a historic rivalry like the Yankees and Red Sox.
Ali ALWAYS grabbed fighters behind the head and although he would get warned a few times the Ref's never took points away from him. It's an illegal tactic and Ali always got away with it. I always hated that about him.
@Mellowcanuck33 It's not for power - it's used by boxers to exhale and remove and carbon dioxide in the body. If you don't exhale CO2, you're holding your breath which will be bad for your stamina/gas in the later rounds.
@vmfelix You're half right but you're supposed to hold your breath for a few seconds in the corner to slow down your heart rate. Exhaling like that punching is done for a few reasons but it does help with the snap in your punches.
@capablemachine I do deep breaths rather than 'holding' them - I think we know what we mean haha! But yeah, you're also partly right, it helps in throwing punches but only if used properly. I spar with some fellas who exhale before they throw the punch, making them vulnerable to counterpunches.
RIP JOE
