The sounds are very eerie and insectile - in a good way! Sounds like the soundtrack to a very strange movie. Most probably some 70s arthouse animation thing. Or possibly some weird documentary. Either way, very inspired playing! Digging it!
i wonder how it sounds like if you do some slayer riffs on this machine. i have seen this guitar synth and i'm thinking of purchasing one myself. is there any built-in distortion effects as well?
@foxtweeg This particular model doesn't have distortion effects. I would also think that it would not work well for rhythmically tight things. Because of the tracking it works best to play it in a light, slippery kind of manner, as you see me doing here. I had to change the way I play on this guitar synth. It's like playing a completely different instrument with it's own characteristics and playing requirements.
Since I've started listening to this stuff in my head I find it hard to turn on the radio or play conventional time signatures. (I can't say much about key signatures though, cos I can sight read on piano but I don't know the fretboard - I have to go completely by ear.)
At any rate, lovely piece. I really enjoyed it.
Question, if you don't mind: was the delay line granulator a VST, or a pedal?
@Animatronica The delay line granulator is on the computer - part of a very fine software package called "Audiomulch". I believe you can download a free copy and try it out.
@Animatronica Yes, if you search my name on Amazon you'll find my two commercially produced CDs - one is with Michael Unruh and the other is with Tony Swafford. You can find samples of both on this page. If you'll send me your postal address, I'd be happy to give you copies of both. I've got boxes of them!
This is absolutely brililant. You are very fortunate to have such an expansive mind to not only appreciate this kind of music, but to actively concoct it on impulse. Make certain that you don't let it slip away EVER! Much respect!
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate your supportive attitude. I must say that it takes a special kind of person to appreciate this kind of music as well. Not everyone has the capacity to hear it. So I commend you in return!
Thanks - I'd love to hear the VG-99. Please let me know if you post something with it! All I have is old-tech stuff - GR-700 and GR-300. Although, I must say I like dealing with the analog synth in many ways.
Yes, very funny! For a while I experimented with using the MIDI output to create and transcribe a MIDI file for this kind of improvisation. It was so complex that sort of defeated the purpose! It does point up a truth, that is, by-passing traditional notation through improvisation makes a far greater degree of complexity possible!

Nice! I just got a VG-99 recently. I'll have to play around with it connected to my modular synth system and see what madness occurs.

Will do. I just ordered a new video camera. I'll get a stand and get down to business.
