Awe man, I have this thing and just saw a video here on YT where the guy takes the tube OUT and it's still glowing. It's a fucking light bulb. The tube passes some voltage since only clean tones work with it removed, but fuck...what a bunch of weenies VOX are. I wondered how the hell it powers a tube with a little DC adapter. I guess what I thought was tube sound is just in the modeling. I'm thinking the tube just completes the circuit like a paperclip.

Fucking lame...no new VOX junk 4 me!

@bucktheusa Maybe the tube is in the last gain stage and it adds some warmth and tube clipping to the sound even when it doesn't work on full voltage. There are many "tube" pedals powered by adapters... That backlighting LED inside the ST is quite stupid, but who knows how the whole unit really works. ;D

this tonelab is great, but you gotta watch out for high gain levels and the pedal section being cranked cos you get unbearable extraneous noise. when you get to know it though its great!

@adairrpb not sure what you would call channels, but with or without a computer you can have 50 of your own presets (amp, cab, eq stuff, modulation, reverb, various other pedals etc)

Dave, Hook that thing up to a 100 watt all tube head like a Mesa MK IV, and crank up the output on the amp, and that VOX Tone Lab ST would sound like Ca Ca/ Thats the way it is, only because the unit you have there is basically practical for small room venues,low wattage, and not really for professional Live Full volume sound stage's/ Too bad, cause the effects sound really good.

This thing is tits! I just scored a used one for $150 but you can find them for $100 and $200 used. That's farking cheap for what it does.

I've paid more for a single Morely pedal.

I'm not into anything they made these days but this was a no-brainer.

Will really wake up your vintage guitar collection and make that cheap solid state sound like a real tube amp at room volumes.

Has headphone output, USB to PC to record and edit patches...WTF more do you want? Makes Line6 sound like toys

@guitarerik93 The input for the music is mixed at the output, so the usb just sends the guitar signal. Record the background music into your music software program (daw) and then record your guitar on another track. Ex: Arm a track, record background music; disarm track, arm a new track, record guitar, etc until you've overdubbed your masterpiece album. ;)

Im always dubious of effects pedals now, i have a line 6 spider 3 with all the amp models and presets and also an old 'zoom' effects pedal but i still cant seem to find the kind of tones that i want, all the models sound the same and a little tinny, but this does look good, just dont wanna waste another £200 for more gimmicky chorus sounds .

What all is in the signal path? Is it straight to a recording device? Was there any other equalization going on? What did you use for software to record it? It's hard for me to believe that this little pedal has a very tube-like tone without being 100% tube. I'm sure the 12ax7 does something, but does it really do as much as I'm hearing?

It sounded good and he was entertaining moreso than most of these types of reviews. I was actually genuinely interested in this up to the point he showed the equalizer. Going left to right treble mid bass, who the fck goes treble mid bass. I don't want to live in a world were the eq doesn't go bass mid treble, it's just to crazy for me to handle.

I think Dave has the ST plugged into some other effects. I own an ST and it dont sound this good. Nowhere nere. And im listening to him on youtube. He's a great guitarist and that counts for a lot. But the sound he gets from that unit isn't any where near the sound i get. So Just be aware people. Most of these videos are sound enhanced.

hey i have this and im really confused and have made due with what this thing has given me. anytime i turn on the amp/cabinets, there is no sound whatsoever, but when i turn them off, all i get is a clean sound, and don't even get me started on trying to fix gain, treble, etc.. but im able to use the pedal effects, reverb, and mod/delay for my needs up until now, but i really want to get this figured out. i can't for example use wah and distortion, i can only have either/or.. :/ please help..
