I love Joe, but during this show he had a stick up his ass. It's one thing to want to get your message out, but all he did was berate the audience. Not exactly the way to endear yourself to people and get their attention.
I was about 13 rows back left center stage. "Sex Style Subversion". Opened with London Calling if memory serves me correct. Gave a fair amount of smack to David Lee Roth. Goddamn this was a great show.
@oOZePirateOo sounds more like anybody out there well it doesnt matter whether mick cut him out u can here 1 2 3 at start kinda but that cud be anythin. i did kinda wanta here joes talkn but that doesnt matter.
Wasn't it later in this very festival where David Lee Roth slammed The Clash saying they took things too seriously? Can't seem to find his little rant. Anyway, great vid, thanks for posting.
Search for "Jamie's Crying" (or maybe Cryin') and "US Festival"; Diamond Dave takes a big swig from his handle of Jack Daniels and takes a shot at the Clash.
Thanks a lot for posting this! I was at this show, but nowhere near this close!
My girlfriend tried to get into a fight with me in the middle of their set and I told her "Look we fight all the time. You want to fight? We'll fight after the show. But until then, shut the fuck up."
Peter Howard, not Terry. If you watch Armigideon Time from the same gig, Joe explicitly says it (well, that Peter Howard is on drums, not that he isn't Terry).
Absolutely ass kicking song--total energy. Lucky enough to have seen them 3 times--should've seen them more. ONLY Strummer and The Clash can do Know Your Rights the right way and the ONLY way...the others who cover this song really suck and don't belong on Youtube
I was at this show. It was the first concert I went to as a kid. My Dad took me and a friend. It was nuts. Clash came on at around midnight if I remember. There were reports of disputes between Joe and Mick. Didn't matter to me. I would have stayed there all night.I remember sitting on the grass watching naked people in the shower area and people smoking pipes all over the place. Quite and adventure for a 12 year old.
I disagree. I think Joe would say use Youtube for the greater good. He was the sort of person that comes along once in a lifetime, he is my generation's Johnny Cash, full of conviction, very politicised and never waivered from his beliefs. I cried when he died x
fijago, If Strummer saw you crying over his death he'd slap you in the face for crying over a pop star...a person you didn't even know. Then he'd kick you in the balls for being such a pussy. Get a life.
i red at Spin magazine that joe strummer want to do an encore but the promoter tell the audience "the clash has left the building",and cut the electricity, and joe punched him.
Thanks for this! There's such a tension in this gig. It was Mick's last gig I reckon... I've got this whole concert, but I can't upload the whole thing here.
Yeah, they dont even look at each other on stage. ITs like in Westway to the World, simmo says how thats how it was backstage...Jonesy over there, him right over the other side, Strummer middle. They just burnt out in the end, too much touring without a break.

The Clash disrespected the U.S. and Wozniak, most of the crowd walked out on their disrespectful asses, including me and my family.

In Mick's defence I don't think he cut Joe off, it sounded like Joe said "Yeah, everybody up" ..to me.

nobody ever accused Van Halen of being the only band that matters, 'cept maybe an 11 y/o in 1981 ....

strummer was driving the rest of the band crazy with the speaches between songs. jones and simonin were getting pissed off at him.

@brianpcurran they agreed wit hjoe ad often credited him for being able to turn their views into words hence the songs and speeches.

Amazing performance and song!
Is it me, or does the atmosphere on the stage seem to be a bit....tense? Especially with Mick cutting Joe off at the beginning....

Joe says that TV blinds you. Joe says this is Radio Clash, can we get this world to listen?
