search youtube for "how to make a hacky sack" with out the thingys at the top.... and you will see how to make an easy one out of a sock, it works good but doesnt last as long as a crochet one...

man, i did it! i figured it out. thanks, man. by the way i have a good idea, make one out of wool yarn, but make it real big, and then get it wet so it would shrink, and the stiches would be super tight so you wouldn't need the pantyhose inside and then the hacky sack would be enviornment friendly.
