  • loooks really boring

  • I'd love to be able to watch this edited to match the Bill Conti sound track for the gliding scene in the Thomas Crown Affair (Brosnan / Russo). Proper quality footage you have here. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for your kind comments. I'm glad you enjoyed the video

  • For my 61th (when I was to become 60, just like you 'youngster') birthday my wife had 'officially' booked a 5-days trip to Scotland for me and 2 friends (home base is Germany, close to Cologne).

One of the most impressing things however was the ride Fort William to Ionad Eachdraidh Mhallaig with a steam train.

We enjoyed every minute of the journey, but - your video gives thousands of memoirs - exactly like we remember it.

Absolutely great, professional made and pleasant!

  • Thank you very much for your very kind comments, I am pleased the video brings back so many happy memories for you. You may also enjoy a video I filmed in May this year during the first week of this years 'Jacobite' service.

  • @acw71000 Thanks for the hint. Unfortunately, if I try to have a look at your video I get = It's not possible.

The german media-rights institution called "GEMA" is able to block this, shame, awful, however.

Do you have any contents (shown or mentioned), concerning german copyright?

aah - now I see: they argue your video contents "UMG" music - what's that?

  • Sorry about that, I forgot it wasn't possible to view it in Germany. I had included some music by the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards which for some reason has copyright issues in Germany

  • I raise a bottle of ` Skull Splitter ` to you sir, brilliant footage !

  • Why thank you kindly, I feel like a bottle or two of the old 'Skull Splitter' myself!

  • Supe shots, but the loco looks to be 45231 not 45212?

  • Ha ha, you're the first to spot that, don't know why I had 45212 in my mind when writing the details. Corrected now, thanks.

  • Absolutely brilliant! I'm going up in august as part of support crew! Cant wait!

  • Thanks very much, you will have a wonderful (but busy!)time I'm sure. You may also like my video filmed in May of this year in the first week of the 2011 season

  • Fantastic places.

Next week I'll go to Scotland, but in 5 days I'll have no sufficient time to see all that..

  • Thank you, it's surprising what you can squeeze into five days. I hope you have a wonderful time

  • I went on the Sherwood Forester steam train on the 29th June 2011 and filmed parts of the journey which I thought was great until I watched this video. It is the best Jacobite video I have seen. Great quality footage that has been well edited. Fantastic work.

  • Thanks very much, I'm sure you will have enjoyed your trip on 'The Jacobite' You might also enjoy my recent video filmed in May of this year in the first week of the 2011 season

  • Before watching this video I wasn't a train lover but now it has changed I really like steam train. Thank you for this pleasant video :-)

  • Thank you very much, glad to have made you a convert to the joys of steam!

  • I actually took this trip last year. Your video brought back such found memories, plus, your video is MUCH better than mine is!

  • Thanks very much, I'm sure you will have enjoyed your trip. You may also like my latest 'Jacobite' video filmed two weeks ago.

  • @acw71000 Found it...do like it very much. Can one be homesick for a place where one has never lived?

  • I think you definitely can. I have always felt 'at home' from the first time I visited Scotland and when researching family history, discovered my great great great grandfather had been born on the Isle of Skye. I am sure there must be something in the genes which makes you like a place

  • Brilliant. Back in Mallaig in September 2011 for a week.

    Great.

Really interested what recording equipment you were using?

  • Thanks for your kind comments. The camera was a Canon HV30 with Rode Videomic. Just back from filming the first week of this years Jacobite, should be uploaded today. You'll have a great time when you go.

  • I (and the 7000 others) will look forward to that. I hope that Scottish Rail and Tourism have seen your work.

  • This, including the sequel, is so good it deserves an Award. I have thought that if ever we need to check if something is beautiful we should place it next to something that we know is beautiful. I think you have my point : the scenery, the engineering, the Pipes, the filming and the sound ..... .........

  • Thank you so much for your very kind comments. I'm going up to Fort William again in May so will hopefully have further videos to post of 'The Jacobite'

  • Although short, I have to admit that this is really the best quality UK railway video I' ve ever seen!

  • That's very kind of you, thanks for the comments.

  • Great photography. Not just of the steam trains but also of the scenery. Some of the best I've seen. Thanks.Great job.

  • Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed the video. I just couldn't ignore that beautiful scenery.

  • Excellent footage taken in an gorgeous scenery! ********** from me!...Unfortunately in nowadays Romania it looks like all standard gauge steam locos are out of use because their boiler warranty had expired...And the management of Transport Ministry has found no source of financing! Greetings from Sibiu, Romania!

  • Thank you very much. That is a shame about your steam locomotives, I hope things improve in the future. La mulţi ani

  • @acw71000 Thank you so much for your kind wish! A very Happy, Healthy and Steamy New Year for all the steam loco enthusiasts living in UK!

  • In a word - excellent !

  • That's very kind of you, thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • What a fantastic film, I can really appreciate the time and love put into this.

I have fantastic memories of going journey when I was 15 and the stunning scenery the train line runs through. I have shown this to my children and my 18month old son is transfixed! looks like we know our holiday destination next summer! Thanks again, brilliant footage that perfectly captures this incredible train and scenery.

  • Thanks for your very kind comments, I'm glad your children enjoyed it too. I hope you get good weather when you go up as it makes such a difference and shows off the scenery so much better

  • @acw71000 You are very welcome! Yes the weather makes a big difference but it looks incredible on a nice cold morning with the mist in the hollows and over the lochs. Incidentally what kind of camera did you use for this footage? Cheers.

  • Camera is a Canon HV30 and footage edited using Corel Videostudio

  • @acw71000 I thought it was a canon from the colours, I have an HG20 and the look is pretty similar.

  • Excellent video. We made the same trip last month (For about the 5th or 6th time) but didn't have time to get out along the route to shoot video like this. Fantastic sound too.

  • Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and trust you enjoyed your trip on the train.

  • very nicee ........,,,,,,

  • Thanks very much

  • What a wonderful video - so professional and a real joy to watch. Thank you so much for sharing it with us all.

  • Thank you very much for your very kind comments. I'm pleased you enjoyed the video, I really enjoyed the few days I had in that beautiful part of the world.

  • Excellent video Austin. I'm hopeful of doing the Jacobite next year as I have never done it before.

    Jeff

  • Thanks very much Jeff, you should certainly do The Jacobite, one of the worlds great train journeys. I want to try and get up in the autumn for the foliage colour.

  • I can see that you went to a great deal of trouble to do this. Although we are going on this trip soon, there's no way we'd be able to get most of these shots! Many thanks.

  • Thank you very much, a great deal of planning did go into this so it is good that it seems to have paid off. I hope you have a wonderful trip, you certainly won't be disappointed.

  • A Fantastic Video! Nice work!

  • Thank you very much, it's very nice to receive such a compliment from the operators. My thanks to you for making it all possible

  • Another magnificent video - I don't know how you manage to get as many good shots from what looks to be the best viewpoints on the line. Once again your photography and editing is first class.

  • Thanks very much Andy, I do a fair bit of 'homework' trying to find the best locations using Google maps etc., Most of the locations in the video are 'classic' locations for railway enthusiasts

  • Good editing plenty of long panning shots so one can enjoy both the scenery and the train in it's landscape.

  • Thank you very much, I felt is was the right thing to do to try and show the both the wonderful landscape as much as possible

  • Excellent stuff yet again. One Question though. Is it easy to chase the train from Fort William because it seems that the road follows the railway in some of the shots?

  • Thanks very much. With the train timings it is possible to get a shot between Fort William and Glenfinnan where there is a water stop of around half an hour. It is possible to get another, e.g at Beasdale in my video but it was very tight and the road does not really allow for high speeds.

  • Excellent filming, great locations and nice weather. It is a superb area of Scotland.

  • Thank you, we were very very lucky I think with the weather. When I was last there in 1985 it was rain and mist all the time.

  • I dont mind the mist, its all part of the atmosphere, but the rain can be a real nuisance. But its the rain that keeps it all so nice up there, but its still a pain if it rains while you are out and about!

  • Great video, 5 Stars!

  • Excellent. We were the support crew for the K1 that week. Great locations.

  • Thanks very much, I would loved to have filmed the K1 all week, hopefully next year. You guys do a great job, keep it up.

  • What an excellent series of videos Austin. You're probably ready for another holiday after the work involved in downloading these. Very well done. 5*

    Mike

  • Thanks Mike. It did take a little while to do, luckily I had permission from 'management' to let the grass on the lawn grow even longer!!

  • very nice video. both parts 1 and 2 are excellent a nice vid to sit back and watch 5* and fav

  • Thank you for your kind comments, I'm pleased you enjoyed the videos.

  • Really really enjoyed watching both your videos. So good - it was almost like being there.. which is a long way away for me.

You got some v good panning shots & showed the romance to steam in an awe inspiring landscape to great effect. Posting in HD is so good!

The whole operation has such a professional feel about it - well I guess it is a regular service! If I had a few 100K spare I would get a turntable for Mallaig!! Maybe, one day!!!

Look forward to seeing your next years video.

  • Thank you very much Hugh for your very kind comments, I do love steam in the landscape shots. The service has run since 1984 now so is now like a well oiled machine. The Harry Potter connection is filling the trains too.

  • Really nice put together video. Enjoyed watching it and look forward to the next part.

  • Thanks very much Stuart, glad you liked it and enjoy part two.

  • Well done(again)!

This is a super film, very well produced and a pleasure to watch.

    More please!

    Dave

  • Thanks very much Dave, part two should be up later tonight and then I will bore everyone with some on board footage (from just behind the black five making a lovely noise)

  • Lovely job, Austin. The perfect holiday video. Some great locations, and good simple, steady camera work. It's 15 years or more since I went up there, but I hope to return this September for the Jubilee/K4/K1 long-weekend. 5*

  • Many thanks Mark, my last visit was in 1985 armed with my trusty sound cine camera !! I'm sure you will get some excellent shots in September.

  • Firstly Austin, can I wish you a belated Happy 60th Birthday, and Pam is spoiling you, but I expect you deserve it...ha..ha...An other faultless video in every respect, that morphing of 62005 into 45212 at the beginning was superb...a video to treasure without a doubt...5*+ Bob

  • Thanks very much Bob for your good wishes and very kind comments, we really want to go back next year, hopefully for a longer stay after noting possible photospots this time.

  • this is absolutley stunning!

    Well Done! Favourited and rated!

  • Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Superb you lucky devil. Nothing else to say! I'll show this to the boss and see if I can get any reaction. Chris

  • Thanks Chris, it is a must do trip, so good luck with 'management'. There are plenty of attractions besides the trains so you'll have no bother!!

  • Excellent Austin, what a great birthday present from a very understanding wife..

  • Thanks very much Ralph, Pam is 'Crewe built' and her Dad used to take her trainspotting on the station so its great that she shares my interest.

  • Thanks Steve, we were lucky with quite a bit of sunshine which makes that scenery look so beautiful.

  • Lovely film first class what can I say that hasn't been said! 5* Brian

  • Thanks for your kind comments, glad you enjoyed it.

  • This is superb. The viaduct shot was brilliant. You were lucky with the weather

  • Thank you, it was certainly worth the climb up to the viaduct and we were lucky not only with weather but also the midges were kind to us!!!

  • One word............. Fantastic!

Cracking Austin! Looks like you had a fabulous week and some fantastic sun and the opportunity of capturing both engines! Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did... and fantastic locations... 5* & Fav :)

    Si

  • Cheers Si, it was a great week and your location advice came in very useful. I never got near your 18 shots in a day record though!! Like you I can't wait to go up there again next year.

  • This is staggeringly good! Never done the Jacobite but its top of the to do list now! Looks like the trip of a lifetime to me, i wonder if i can talk Sarah in to it ??..................Matt.

  • Thanks very much Matt, I'm sure you can talk Sarah into going up there, so much to see and do besides the trains , the scenery is something else.

  • Splendid! 5* Such beautiful scenery; certainly looks like time well spent. Thoroughly enjoyable compilation. Thank you for sharing. - Mike

  • Cheers Mike, It was a great few days and has whetted my appetite now for next year when we hope to go up for a bit longer.
