  • I got chills

  • This joint's a jumpin!!!!

  • I love that growl from the muted trombone solo. Louis Armstrong is a beast!

  • i really love the trompett youknow .

  • Maravilloso, muchisimas gracias...

  • That is, indeed, the Canal Street Blues. Its just a different tempo and arrangement than normal.

  • Trummy Young and his Trombone..

    I Remember a vocal margie..

  • wish the bone solo was longer

  • Very very good blues number.

The excellent dippermouth dot blogspot covers various versions of Canal Street Blues by Louis (with music examples), including this 1962 version. He says this televised version started out as Canal Street Blues but quickly became a standard blues number because of a lack of rehearsal time. Read all about it in dippermouth's blog for January 23 2009.

  • POPS IS TOPS

  • Amen!

  • Satchmo wonderful as ever, but not the "Canal

Street Blues" surely, but a lovely unknown

    blues-vehicle of the AllStars.

  • this is just perfect,.... thnks satchmo... u continue being the best!

  • Canal Street Blues is a bit of a stretch..sounds like a head arrangement off blues progression.

  • makes you weep

  • Oh, Yeah!!

  • YEAH!!! The BEST. Thanks

  • Why does this video end with a picture of Fletcher Henderson? I mean I love Henderson, but cannot see the connection.

  • The show was done as a portrait on Louis' life and career. In the next sequence it moves on from his time with King Oliver to his stint with Henderson's band.

  • Music does not get better than that.

  • Remake from 1923 - Gennett Records - Written by Louie and King Oliver - My My

  • correct, that's Joe Darensbourg on clarinet.

  • The clarinetist is Joe Darensbourg.

  • you're right, my dad saw that this afternoon and told me.

  • You go POPS! Billy Cronk-Bass, Trummy Young-Trombone, DANNY BARCELONA-DRUMS, Barney Bigard-Clarinet, Billy Kyle-Piano, these guys were the best!

  • Very nice & very interesting clip. This wasn't part of their regular routine. Pops sounds very relaxed.

  • this is true, unusual to see him playing something with no melody and no high notes.
