The excellent dippermouth dot blogspot covers various versions of Canal Street Blues by Louis (with music examples), including this 1962 version. He says this televised version started out as Canal Street Blues but quickly became a standard blues number because of a lack of rehearsal time. Read all about it in dippermouth's blog for January 23 2009.
The show was done as a portrait on Louis' life and career. In the next sequence it moves on from his time with King Oliver to his stint with Henderson's band.

Satchmo wonderful as ever, but not the "Canal

Why does this video end with a picture of Fletcher Henderson? I mean I love Henderson, but cannot see the connection.

You go POPS! Billy Cronk-Bass, Trummy Young-Trombone, DANNY BARCELONA-DRUMS, Barney Bigard-Clarinet, Billy Kyle-Piano, these guys were the best!

Very nice & very interesting clip. This wasn't part of their regular routine. Pops sounds very relaxed.

this is true, unusual to see him playing something with no melody and no high notes.
