Why would you shoot at an ISO of 800 in broad daylight? Last I checked you should be shooting with a ISO of a 800-1600 at night or shooting indoors with a 70-200mm f/2.8
If your pictures have a lot of motion blur try turning up your shutter speed above 1/200th. Make sure there is plenty of light on the subject your shooting or your picture will be dark or your camera will decide to slow your shutter speed to compensate with the lighting.
thanks for this vid.i am 14 and use a nikon d3100 with a nikkor 70-300mm and take pics for my running club when they do road/cross county races-also also run for them.
Shutter priority and a fast lens are what's needed to get great sports shots in low k light. If pictures are blurry, it's because the shutter speed was to slow. In order to speed up the shutter, you have to increase the ISO and/or get a lens with a better aperture (e.g. f/2.8).
Any chance on doing some tutorial on Lightroom? I have the software, scared to open and use it. Thanks for the fast reply!! You should open a yahoo group. Also should I have my flash on during cheer?

HI! I have the 3000 with the lens it came with. What would i set my camera to for cheer leading? My pics come out very blurry. Also, my normal pictures are sometimes blurry.
@lmf1479 You need to set your camera to aperture priority and ISO 800, with those settings the camera should choose you a fast enough shutter speed to capture the motion.

hey, if you want to expand your viewers to brazilians, portugueses, etc, you should show what you're doing while you do... Because who can't understand what you say can at least see it. Consider the tip.
The D5000 does not seem to take the Min Speed setting. in A Mode.
I have it set A on Mode Setting and Under ISO settings in Menu - ISO Max 800 and Speed Min 1000.
But when I get into shooting mode, the info bar (below view screen), "ISO AUTO" and 800, but speed still seems to be set automatically. Instead of staying at 1/1000, it says 1/200, 1/40, 1/60 etc.
Thanks , I'm getting ready to shoot a football game - at night ! , have a d40 with 18/135 - I don't think the lens has a continuous focus feature though ! Still good to know ! Thanks...
hi there. thanks for the tips. i have a nikon d60 and am wondering if its worth the money getting a VR 18-55 lense. i only really take sports shots and will be getting into snowsports.
Thanks for the video, I found it very helpful. I purchased the Nikon D5000 a few months back and added a Nikkor 70-300mm telephoto lens to film my sons football games from the stands. I am a real novice and don't know how to set the camera to take multiple photos by clicking once. Can you write back and tell me how to do that? If so, I'd really appreciate it as my son's next game is in 2 short days! Thanks in advance
If you press MENU on the back, then go into SHOOTING MENU the RELEASE MODE there are options there for CONTINUOUS, that will give you about 3 shots pre second when you keep the shutter pressed down.

I used the 70/300 nikkor , along with my d90 , at a recent air show in NJ , what a Sweet lens !!!!

why not use manual mode? You can manually set the aperture, shutter speed and ISO . Then you can eliminate accidental action blur .
