  • Because the CDEFGABC keeps repeating itself, How do I know which octave to use when reading music? How do I know to use the extreme left and right of the keyboard?

  • this was no help

  • hot piano teacher on YT lol thx so much!

  • I HAVE THAT SAME PIANO X)

  • @jmh218 it changes with bass clef. you're thinking of treble clef

  • I have been trying to learn to read music for more than 24 years, and with your teaching, the lightbulb has finally went on!!! Thank you.

  • So how do you write sharps on the music lines??

  • @DanielHoward777 draw the hex sign next to the note on the left side towards the note that u considered sharp, it looks likt this #

  • Thanks, Walt! That helps clarify it for me. Can't wait to check out more of your tutorials!

  • wat are sharps and flats are they the black notes

  • @CROSSFIRE145 yes - the black notes on the keyboard are the sharps and flats. more on that at my website.

  • I will now always know where the C's and B's are...XD

  • even tho i'm a bass player its nice to watch ya teach..... ur cute :D

  • That's not your dad. That's not even close to what your dad looks like.

  • OMG THAT little INFO on that is is the left of the 2 black notes just help me out loads!

  • aww. we use different "names" for notes here. like "do" "re" "mi" and so on. although this isn't quite helping me, your tutorials are great :) ! you're an awesome teacher.

  • @waltribeiro ahahah hell yeah!

I'm already a musician for 11 years now but I still passed by to watch this.. .and like you teaching style a lot =D keep going!

  • Thank man for taking you time to do this. You are way smarter than any of those people that work at expert village they make ever thing sound more complicated that it is.

  • @Megadethmegadethfan1 no prob. moere at my website

  • si me gusto eres chingon

  • thankyou! great teaching!

  • Thanks for posting this, but how can i read them by notes, such as DO RE MI, not like alphabet letters? Help.

  • @ujvaral thats known as solfege. more about that on my website

  • The bass is the easiest and most logical staff, because the musical alphabet ABCDEFG just fits inside it.

A is at the bottom, G at the top, D in the middle, with no notes sticking outside of the staff.

  • @ExpressStaveNotation hmm, ok?

  • @waltribeiro

I like that you go from the middle note, which is the D line in bass. The thing is, D is also the middle of the pattern of keys on the piano, so it is logical for it to be the middle of the stave. See my video titled

A new way to read the Bass Clef: tutorial plus "Name the Tune"

Also, you might be interested in how the notes came to be defined historically, and i tell this in the video featured on my channel. It is little known but should be taught in all music education courses!

  • Amazing! makes so much sense. You by far is the best teacher i found on you tube. You make learning music so easy. Peace Luv

  • thankyou! just wondering, you might have already said how but i didnt understand, how do you read what octave to start on or when to switch?

  • thanks teacher it was a good class!! geos.

  • Do you know what? i think my little brains taking this in, before you said the bass is on the left and the treble on the right i already realised that :-) im learning your a great teacher :D

  • Nice video, good tutorial.

  • thanks :D this helped a lot

  • Did anyone ever tell that you kinda look like Tony Almaida (24) ?

  • You teach very well. Great Teacher! Funny too. :)

  • when i go up before the middle c on the bass do i play the keys on the treble clef?

  • ANY keys lower than middles C will be Bass. ANY higher will be Treble.

    he says that in video

  • i dint get it :S

  • i have been looking for a keyboard and thts the 1 i want please can you tell me where you got it from and you are a life saver :L thanks

  • cool understandable vid and all, but um wat octave is middle C in???? anyone???

  • Middle C is the c between treble and bass clefs. Use the charts at the videos/charts page on my website. I apply all the notes to guitar in the picture archive

  • @waltribeiro he means; like on a keyboard, what octave would middle c begin? the third?

  • I already knew this stuff but I forget ... So I faved it !!! THANX !!!

  • YAY thankyou so much for this vid!

  • Wow, that really cleared things up a hell of a lot!

  • mat saleh babi.konon pandai

  • Thanks so much, you help a lot:]

  • You are seriously damn awesome. Thanks man for taking the time to do all of this

  • Man your videos help me alot! Thanks for all the uploads!

  • i have a q.

can you make a video on how to read fast paced music?

  • reading slow tempo and fast tempo music is all the same.

  • TY! That helps me a lot!! :)

    But I have a question...

    Ermm...

if i have this whole note.

and you say that whole note has 4 beats..

does it mean i also have to play that whole note four times on keyboard like hows the beat goes?? :|

  • NO - you play it once and let the note hold out for 4 beats. If you wanted to play the note once a beat, thn it would be written as 4 quarter notes :)

  • very good!

    thank you

    : )

  • thanks for taking the time to make these great videos

my main difficulty is timing the beat as i play

what aids do you recommend for a beginner?

and is there a specific method to use while trying to learn without an aid

    thanks

  • Go to my website under the 'Videos/Charts' tab and there are many video there in order. Hope that helps!

  • Hi Walt !

I got a question about the octave:

How do you read that you have to change f.ex one octaves on the C ? Is it something you can read or is it just to express that the C or D E F ... is repeating it self on the keyboard ?

    Thank you so much

  • be more specific. Go to my website for more video on Octaves. Do a search in the box to the upper right. I wanna help you!

  • Thank you so much!

  • isnt the bass clef line are e g b d f dont rember A or was that the treble

  • EGBDF is for treble. The lines on bass are GBDFA :)

  • it ISNT A PIANO!.. grml -.-'

  • haha ... its a drawn piano!

  • he called the keyboard piano.. thats the point.. rofl

  • hey, i'd watch some of your videos and your'e good...i hope i can request a song and you'll play it on piano...can i?

  • How about guitar. That'll work :)

  • it's okay..

  • I am so glad I found your videos because I want to major in music, but I dont know how to read music. To qualify for the music major I will have to take a music fundamental test so your videos is a true blessin man! You jus dont undastand I have been askin people who I know, knows how to read music to help me, they say they will but when it comes down to it they dont. So thank you man soooooooooooooo much I truely appreciate it!!!!!!!!! thank you so much again and God bless!

  • Glad I can help! There's always my 'Video/Charts' page at my website. There's tons of more videos there. Stay well and keep in touch!

  • thank you so much, this has answered everything lol. very good.

    Amy

  • Yep - I wanna help you. There's always my 'Videos/Charts' section at my website. Its like an online school for free.

  • this is great thanks a lot!!!

  • i have a question theres a lower note the f on the bass clef and i dont know what note it is...please reply

  • I'm in my mid 40s and never really learned to read music. I wish I had learnt to play an instrument as well. But after watching two of these video's I'd like to say you make it a hell of a lot easier than it was at school. keep up the vids. Thanks

  • w00t! i dig this! my first musical composition on piano is accredited to you.

  • owh ic. =] thanks.

  • y r there sometimes 2 treble clefs in the music sheet? like one above then another one then only the bass clef. which m i soppose 2 play??

  • treble means the higher pitched notes. bass is lower. So if there's 2 treble clefs in piano music it only means both hands play at the 'higher' notes together. Rather than one higher and one lower like normal (Bass and treble)

  • its a keyboard... NOT a piano

    but nice vid thx^^

  • Thanks Man, I realize that i was out of my mind thinking that bass and treble notes were the same through out the piano

  • thanks! really nice vid.

  • Cool!

  • Thanks Walt. All I had to do is watch like 40min of your videos and I can look at the piano and the sheet music and it sort of makes sense now. My friend told me not to worry about reading music and play by ear. I think that is harder. I will remember you when I make it big. I will mention you in my hall of fame acceptance speech.lol

  • i thought middle c was between the two black keys???

  • no, its to the left of it

  • 'C' is to the left of the two black keys. More videos to come! Follow me on Twitter @waltribeiro for updates :)

  • In a preceding video, you said the first line at the bottom is an E (Every Good Boy Does Fine?). Why are you now starting with G?

  • Never mind. I've spoken too soon.

  • thanks a motherfuckin lot.

  • Why Does The Bass Start With An f But The Treble Starts With A c

  • hi, my problem is always what to do with the left hand, will this help? i will watch and try later. god bless

  • I had a few piano lessons years ago, and forgot how to play the bass part - now I can start practicing again! Excellent videos, you are a great teacher - thank you

  • thanks very much for the videos :) thanks very much for spending your time doing this :) its fantastic :) :) :) :) :) :)
