The only smart with a 0-60 of 14 seconds is the original european smart.

Btw, the new smart fortwo, has a 999cc engine but default has no turbocharger, so its 71hp 999cc against 101hp of 700cc

no, there are 3 versions of roadster: 61HP, 82HP, 101HP(Brabus)

all 3 have the same 700cc engine of the smart fortwo, with different ECU (and some other small stuff).

The new smart for2 instead, has a 999cc engine, but only two versions are turbocharged (one of them is the Brabus)

Still, the 101hp would do 060 in about 8 seconds.

the timings are officially from 10,7-11,x, but this belongs to a stock 82/101 2003 roadster. the reason why it takes so much, is that they really messed it up with the gears. Imagine, changing a gear can take up near a second and to reach 60, yo have to change 4 gears. Now there are some updates that makes this much faster, but still...i think 8 second is a reality when the car is chip-tuned up to 115hp

I got 8 seconds from an UK owner with a stock one. He must have really pushed it.

Realistically if the smart (fortwo & roadster) had a quicker tranny then it might just get to 60 in 8 seconds. But that shift (it's just a tad faster in the fortwos that had the free tranny flash upgrade) takes nearly a second, times that by 4 and yeah, there goes the 12.8 seconds.

But an automatic would weigh it down and kill the mileage, but a true manual would be a disadvantage to those seeking convenience

even when the gearbox is that slow, i'd never replace it with a manual. the car has so much torque thanks the turbocharger, and even more when it goes in overboost, that's 100% fun and the ferrari-style sequential transmission makes it the perfect toy, remaining one of the cheapest cars in the market. Everyone that was in a roadster thinks it has minimum a 2liter engine.

I agree 100%, it may be a bit slow, but still fun to drive with.

Too bad US smarts don't have factory turbo, but I guess aftermarket has that covered.

Smart Rosdter would be compared with a mini, there is no comparission, S.Roadster is a way better looking car than mini cooper, wich is only a box with wheels. Besides Mini is for gays and girls only, it is a G car.

... This isn't the fortwo cabrio... Why didn't he pit the fortwo against the mini instead of the two that are discontinued? The fortwo's cabrio version has a one button push removable top, and it can be done at max speed (90 mph). I like both cars, but the Mini back seats seem so ridiculously uncomfortable, I wonder what the point is.
