  • A Dear John letter is a military slang for breakup letter.

  • good cinematographer!i think art direction worked well too.too bad that one actress damaging the film.

  • Great flick!!!! Nice shots, acting was good, i'd rather hear them speak normally than having an amateur southern accent, I guess a dialect coach isn't in a student film budget, well done with what you had though!!

  • Oh and also, why is it called Dear John when his name is Sam?

  • a "dear john" is a break-up letter.

  • This is so sad. At times, I didn't understand what was happening though. Mostly the parts that take place when he gets home. At the end it all came together and I figured everything out. I don't know if you intended people to be confused for the first half though. However, really good storyline.

  • wow that hit me hard

I know atleast three people who are in the marinecore and i don't know if they are still alive or not.

  • whatever.....!

    Meaningless, awkward !

    Best luck next time around

  • Awesome video. very well made.

God bless our troops. they go through hell just so shit ass little punks (and btchs) can have the freedom to insult and degrade them. Lttl btch girl friend is alive because hes a hell of alot better person than she is. I know this was a work of fiction but the it really happens.

  • Really amazing. I love yalls work!

  • i dont get the end whats with the map??

  • at the end when he is looking at the map he is going to texarkana, where his dead friend said he was going to build, and offered him part ownership. so basically he decided that he would take up the offer, even though it was to late to say yes to the partnership with his friend.

  • i think it's one of those you'd have to see twice to understand fully.

  • my thoughts exactly

  • Nope, it's actually pretty obvious.

  • i understand almost all your videos but this one is to psihological :S

  • psihological? what exactly do you think that means?

  • This film was great. I love how you did the flashbacks it all blends pretty well together.

  • wow this was a great film

  • this is my favourite short film from vfs. And ive been watchin em for ages. This and two others.. bt i forget wat theyr called. Um Miko and forced redemtion. THis is awesome. i wish we had amazing film schools like this in england.

  • Parts of this video were very hard to follow- didn't realize until the end that he was remembering her breaking up with him. Lacked Clarity.

  • come on, you just had to look at the dates.

i thought it was really great... i loved it

  • What's the storyline?

  • Interesting short story that has been lived by many of us who have served, but there are so many little inacuracies in detail that it really detracts from the story...simple things like long haircuts and the flag turned the wrong way do not help immerse the viewer.

  • Hey Marc,

Sorry there were distracting inaccuracies. Please understand that the film was made with a very small budget.

I don't know which flag you're refering to but I will definately check it out. Also I believe their haircuts were regulation, except for Shauna, but you have to agree with me, she looks much better with long hair.

  • How' bout obviously Canadian accents--especially noticeable in the guy purportedly from Texarkana.

  • They are Canadian actors. The actors in this film are all pretty young, and we really didn't have a lot of time to rehearse. I think it's better that they have Canadian accents than trying to perform with Southern accents that they didn't have time to develope. All the actors did a really great job, except that putz at the start with a toothbrush in his mouth.

  • :=D I shouldn't have been so flippant, because I know this is a student film. To me the flag and haircuts weren't significant detractions from y'all's attempt at verisimilitude. Accents, however, are very important to us Southerners (and Texans)!

  • Ooooohhhh!!! I'm a Texan! (well, it's my 3rd year here, but still!) But.... I don't have an accent....T-T Instead, I have a lisssssssssssssp!!!!!!!!!!! And... Texas has been rather harsh to me and my family, but... *sigh* NO! I don't cut myself! That's wimpy... It's just giving into your sorrows, and not facing them..... Cool video! Tee-hee! (that's fake. I don't laugh like that. Normally.)

  • what lisp are you talking about? Also, I don't cut myself? where the hell does that fit in this movie? Are ya alright? how's about not giving into your jealousy and facing your manhood. "sigh" just use your keyboard pussy

  • excellent! very impressive. not something i am going to forget.

  • Amazing, one of the best short films I have ever seen. Keep up the good work, all of you involved in this film.

  • fantastic movie .very moving and spellbinding

  • this was so moving. great psycological reality.

  • Amazing. I cried. Excellent work on this!!

  • this actually made me cry.

  • loved it

  • what equipment did you use to shoot this?

  • this was a great movie.

  • Truly amazing.
