  • talk about playing with expression.

  • s richter who knew prok. superficially said P. could be a bit vicious at times but such a creative artist can by definition and /or exclusion NEVER be called a n asshole. G´s ínterpretation is analytical and precise, Richter´s, much more artisitic.

  • OH MY GOD

  • très pro! une des meilleurs interprétations sans aucun doute

  • I can't stop listening to this!

    It's so exciting, crisp, brilliant!

  • This is an incredible combination of sight and sound, should be shown in all the schools, maybe it will teach them something. Only Richter, obviously, can measure up to this, but no video for Sviatoslav (the name means something like "glory of the...").

  • holy freakin cow. fast fingers. jealous :(

  • the 8th is really bad ass, it really is!

  • I wonder if Prokofiev writing such insanely difficult piano music was a reflection of his personality. I heard he was kind of an asshole.

  • @prandtastic He wasn't. Actually his biography is pretty interesting, it appears he has drawn a chess game with the world champion!!!

  • 5:25 "err...?"

  • espectacular ya quisiera yo tocar así

  • This is a technical marvel. Just insane.

  • True. Terrific articulation and amazing finger strength.

  • Wonderful. Crisp and furious, just the way it should be! I slightly prefer Demidenko's interpretation for the way he shapes his phrases, but that's a studio recording so hey...

  • Gavrilov has the humor and understanding for this sonata. The different timbres and registers come alive here. Richter's Gilel's rec sound AINT SO GOOD compared to immediacy of this. I'd like to know what or how Prokofiev felt about Scoenberg,Webern and Messiaen.

  • Outstanding playing and interpretation of this great work.! Gavrilov's interpretation is unique among many fine versions that include Gilels, Richter, Egorov, De Groote and Sokolov.

  • Bloody fantastic, but SLIGHTLY too mechanical in some parts

particularly 3:07 and 7:50, too closed

but HOLY SHIT that was FURIOUS at the end

  • The only movement I understand.

  • @Kalen1457 me too

  • Though Gilels' performance is closest to my heart, this is obviously a phenomenal, unique, tour de force of an interpretation by Gavrilov.

  • I agree!! His fingers are very elegant...Or rather... was very elegant. His performances of his younger years (as this utterly amazing example) was on a way higher level than they are today. It seems he's grown old. But performances as these are amongst the best!

  • Oh he is doing now even better. That was a time when he was slightly remote from piano taking his time for religion and philosophy ( 1995-2002 ).

Since 2005 he is fully back to the piano and better then he sever was!

  • Svetlana,

Glad to hear it. I still have the signed program from that unbelievable 1984 recital. Andrei was trembling so much he tore through the photo in the programme with the ballpen. Please pass on my love and undying admiration. I hope he turns into the mature artist that we all know he has the potential to be.

  • He already there and all you have to do just wait till he comes to UK:) S

  • the best!!!

  • PS Puchjok:)

  • I am a personal assistant of Andrei:)

You simply have a great taste - this is the best and most elegant fingers in the world:)

    Svetlana

  • @Puchjok I listened yo him las night in Valladolid (Spain). Just great. I payed 1€ for the ticket(last minute one) and I think there's no better way to spend 1€ (or 30, that was the official price).

  • @policleto I am happy you have heard and seen how he is playing now, simply the best!

  • where do you get these videos...? i could watch andreis' fingers all day every day, i suppose its a fetish?

  • Gavrilov's is the only performance I'm aware of that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Richter's 1961 studio recording for DG. I wouldn't be surprised if he's familiar with that recording. Frankly, Gavrilov's chiseled articulation throughout -- but especially in the coda -- borders on the surreal. Bravo!

  • Gilels' performances are the very best, in my opinion.

  • great!

  • This is absolutely fantastic playing and interpretation.

  • Astonishing - and so few views! This man's Rach 3 (recorded when he was something like 18 years old) will blow your mind.

  • fantastic!! awsome

  • truly, truly admirable

  • this is awsome well done Andrei . I ve always admired his crisp articulation.

  • Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
