There are some things that can help, such as forcing greater competition and removing special exceptions from insurance companies... but will that help enough? The real issue is that insurance companies should not even exist. The only purpose they serve is to compensate for government inadequacies.
The bailouts were well under way in 2008 and almost everyone said it was essential. Personally, I'd have loved to see the Corps put out of business but that doesn't mean it's right.

Who, exactly, are you taking the country back from? Since WWII, only one Republican president has ever reduced the GDP-to-debt ratio, and every single Democratic one has increased it. I think that's as much an indictment of 'conservative' candidates as you can get.
Not that I think the Republicans we've had lately are actually conservative - hence the quotes around 'conservative.' A good fiscally conservative leader would be a breath of fresh air.

And the reason why slavery wasn't totally banned in the Constitution (only the importation of slaves after a certain date) was so that the Southern plantation owners would sign onto it.

We differ; I'm pragmatic and less racist. My concern is the cost and availability. Having a public option might well lower costs. Re medicare. Additionally, more people paying into any insurance system, more paying subscribers, lowers 'their' costs.
Be selfish, but smart. Accept the inevitable inequities in favor of the cost savings and more income.
That benefits everyone.

This country is not limited by your interpretation of constitutional authority. The Constitution was a starting point.
I want it here. I also want single payer and a government option much like medicare. We do this for roads, public safety, schools, etc. so to say it's somehow unconstitutional is difficult to accept.
If the insurance companies have something to offer then they are welcome to compete. i don't see why anyone would want to line their pockets but you go ahead. I just don't.

Agreed. The problem is what do we reform it to? Our government is completely incompetent. A public option has worked well in other countries, but it would likely be a disaster here.
There are some things that can help, such as forcing greater competition and removing special exceptions from insurance companies... but will that help enough? The real issue is that insurance companies should not even exist. The only purpose they serve is to compensate for government inadequacies.

The bailouts were well under way in 2008 and almost everyone said it was essential. Personally, I'd have loved to see the Corps put out of business but that doesn't mean it's right.
I see the greatest economic problem as big business. They have far too much power and it grows every year, unlike partisan politics. These wars benefit Haliburton more that our country.
And, for better or worse, government is the only thing that can push back.

Wasteful defense spending came about via our Keynesian Economic System of using the PRIVATELY OWNED US Federal Reserve Bank to fund Military Spending for Mineral and Natural Resource Companies to easily steal and exploit resources from developing countries around the world. What I don't like about it is reliance on the 'founding fathers' stuff. As if long dead people are somehow wiser and more insightful than we are now. It's impossible to go back. The only way is forward, and how to do that should be the focus.

It's possible that our time has passed. Our parents & grandparents might have had what it takes to live cooperatively but it doesn't look good for us. We can't manage our own success.
