  • Love the harmonies. Love the message. Love the culture.

  • Not for nothing but those beards on those guys turn me on...I like hairy guys..mmmmmmmm! sexy!

  • You might just catch some Jew going over and joining in if he sees you next time he's in NYC. continue to be Blessed in singing His praises, He is to whom every knee must bow!

  • Awesome way of proclaiming Yeshua, and His Gospel!

  • more from crossroad.to/Quotes/brainwashing/dialectic-didactic-gotcher.htm: According to dialectical "logic," only when the patriarch abdicates his God-given office (like Adam did in the Garden in Eden), forsaking the didactic way of thinking, then and only then can there be equability of opportunity in the home and in society. "For equality of opportunity to exist, the family as a unit must be weakened." James Coleman The Adolescent Society.

The object isn't his removal, it is the annihilation of his paradigm, his way of thinking—thinking that...his children must obey his commands,"in the Lord." According to dialectical "logic," only when the patriarch abdicates his God-given office (like Adam did in the Garden in Eden), forsaking the didactic way of thinking,

  • Besides, I love the freedom to wear skirts or not that is mine. The world has a legalism all its own, you know. Now that Christ is mine & I am His: I am no longer needy or addicted to the latest sound, fad, or fashion with those lines of perfection & 'success' that the spirit of this world keeps moving out until we race ourselves into a sad, exhausted, & hopeless grave after a pointless, wasted life serving Mammon. Life is bright & I am never bored anymore because of the meaning truth brings.

  • And, who wants to be 'religious'? All men are religious & laboring for some vain & futile hope apart from trusting in Christ---most by blind faith without even examining the Word honestly for themselves. It's reconciliation & relationship with the true & living God & Savior of men's souls by receiving His grace by faith & belief in His Word that frees men from the price of sin & arbitrary meaninglessness given puffed-up & 'grand' titles & claims without justification by the Deceiver's dupes.

  • Actually you're confusing hard line Amish with the Mennonite, and they do err in not adhering to the New Testament church model so that legalism is a serious potential as it is with all Jeremiah 17:9 prone humanity (it's our only true common ground 'unity' you know :-), yet they have the Word of God to rein in & to expose their error so they are much less liable to 'evolving' into arbitrary imaginative & ungrounded justifications of lawlessness & sin.

  • how beautiful, a lovely song and an island of peace amongst the madness of modern travel, thank you for posting

  • most boring, lifeless singing I've ever heard.

  • I haven't seen a Mennonite choir singing in the NYC subway in ages! I'm not religious, by the way, but whenever I HAVE to ride the subway (and I try to avoid it as much as possible), I'd much rather listen to these ladies than some awful black rappers or a Mexican mariachi band.

  • i believe wat they do but...... there not a very good quire..... unfortunatly. =(

  • This is a nice video. Its good to see humility in the praise of God. I love singing from the hymn books. Lots of churches don't use the hymn books anymore and that sucks.

  • God bless these dear ones in the midst of the noise, busy-ness, fear, greed, false peace, violence, presumption, force, manipulations & terrors of this world living obediently & triumphantly offering the pearl of great price that all the wise of the world are so very tragically & unnecessarily ignorant of. Yes, there is undoubtedly sin amongst them, as among all men, only proving the truth of the Word. Go to the Word of God! Teach us to number our days that we might have a heart of wisdom.

  • ya just try to take their money and they will fight to the death!

  • I lived in NYC for 8 f***ing years. Where the hell were these angels when I was taking the subway to and from work 5 days a week? I got mostly people banging on trash cans or mariachi bands or disciples of Zamfir...

  • lol heh heh heh im a mennonite

  • What a blessing to hear them singing! God bless them for being bold enough to share their music!

  • There are 14 mennonite churches in the Pilgrim Mennonite Conference,in as many cities in PA.Friends of mine from the 4th. Avenue congregation in Altoona travel once a year to New York to evangelize, though they are not among the group in this video. They call it "New York for Jesus".

  • I knew a Mennonite guy who became a friend. Through him, I met his family and visited a Mennonite community. They are the most wonderful people! They helped me when I was down and indirectly helped me heal my relationship with my family. Mennonites are so forgiving and understanding of human frailties. They tend not to judge others and would do anything for a person in need. If there ever were "true" Christians...these people are it.

  • I have mennonite friends They are awesome loving people. And help me with my walk with Christ. They were probably there singing as a way to share God's message with people who otherwise not hear for they do not go to church .What better way to share it then through song :)

  • this is so dutch lol.... menno simons was the creator of mennonites and he was dutch. Well... the netherlands didnt exist then formally but he was born in a 16th century province which now belongs to the netherlands. Its called Friesland. Anyway... very old fashioned dutch feel this has.

  • @brewereric

you have to understand something about the amish. they're a very closed community and it takes along time for them to trust outsiders, and even their neighbors.

  • Quite excellent. My guess is that they are from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania considering the extremely high number of Mennonites and Amish that live there. But to be honest, unless they said otherwise, I doubt that these singers are Amish. NYC is not too friendly to Horse and Buggy...as well as the hymns that they are singing are fairly modern hymns, as far as hymns go that is. just my thoughts. They are bloody wicked awesome. =)

  • New York City

  • Was this in D.C. or New York City?

  • They look more to be Beachy. They might just be conservative, but by the way the men are dressed, they look to be Beachy. I was raised Mennonite and I have Amish relatives. They are the nicest people I have ever met, even though they are my sixth cousins or so, but the way of life of the Amish is a simple one, with God and the love of Jesus at the heart and center. Family is a big part for us and sining is a great way to bond. God, songs, and great food shaped my childhood. Amen.

  • @dakotagerman1 I for one do not believe you lived for a year in a Hutterite colony in Minnesota, for two reasons. One, Hutterites are not about "social control" and secondly, being that they ARE loving people they would not have tolerated your ways for an entire year. You would have been kindly asked to repent or leave.

  • @robertjohnson487 Dear friend, I have learned that the things you say are not true, the hard way. There is FAR LESS freedom in trying to live a life as a person of this Earth rather than as a child of God.

  • I appreciate this video, but I must say that "when the long night claims us, we will be the same" is not necessarily true.

"He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son." 1 John 5:10-11

There is eternal life for them that believe in Jesus; the 2nd death for them that do not.

  • These people are the real old Mennonites, like they also lived in the Netherlands during the 17th and 18th century. I admire them for their faith and lifestyle, for they show the world what christianity is about.

  • I probably should keep my sexist comments to myself...although this presentation would have been more interesting had the singers been naked. except for santa claus back there hanging out but he wasnt doing much singing anyway.

  • @infinltyshock You're only suppose to talk that way about women whom are whores, or your typical mainstream American slut.

  • beautiful, singing to the Lord in New York, the city of night clubs, luxury, inmorality, violence, prostitution, MTV.... is quite amazing and brave

  • What a blessing.I loved hearing Praise to Our Lord and Savior.

  • i was a member of a mennonite group in idaho, and luckily got out at a young age. im 20 now and would be a farmer with a couple kids right now if i stayed. im going through engineering school instead of only being educated to the 8th grade.

  • @mrpacifistnth keep the good side of mennonite culture, faith, peaceful way of living, hard work, etc. I know that they have their dark side too... but perfect culture doesnt exist

  • What beautiful singing, so peaceful and fulfilling. Sadly not one passerby stopped to listen. Is humanity that busy today that Heavenly singing doesn’t cause someone to listen.

God Bless the Amish communities, we, out in the world have a lot to learn.

    Ger from Europe.

  • I like it....

  • I love these old hymns. I sing them every sunday :)

  • strange seein Mennonites in NYC!! i hope they escape the urban asylum soon! the farm and woods are safer!

  • @acerb45666555 Isn't interesting how people move to the cities to excape the dangers of the wild in nature only to find the wild dangers of masses of population to be far more deadly? Nature may kill your body but in masses of population the soul is corrupted.

  • look at all those lost people!!!!

  • i like it

  • It is wonderful to see People singing of the Glory of our God amid the noise of our everyday lives. Amen

  • behead those who insult jesus

  • @bobagopaa wow im chirstian thats insane

let people believe in what they want to believe

    its their doom

  • lol spoken like a true religious fool

  • Many Amish, Mennonites live in central Ohio. They are very warm kind folks. Not many ar able to live their life style, a person must be born in the community.

Hutterites are more communal and more strict. But, these folks are interesting to talk to

  • Thank you for posting this clip of plain, humble lovers of Jesus singing old hymns so sincerely and with some nice harmonies. It could bring tears to the eyes of your sensitive viewers/hearers. Was unable to see faces further back than the front row, unfortunately. I know you may have been afraid to get closer than you did.

Presumably you did not talk to any of them to find out from whence they came and why they were singing?

  • @ClaireConrad I approached one of the women handing out pamphlets trying to initiate a conversation but she was too busy to converse beyond confirming that they were from Pennsylvania

  • @greenherring2 those are atually called tracks

  • @ClaireConrad its probabley like a street meeting where they go out and spread the Gosple of Christ

  • very nice video

  • Beautiful thanks,,,

  • so thankful that this is the past for me and never have to relive those days

  • This is annoying... but the subway is a public space anyway...

  • What a testimony! Praise GOD!

  • Far better to be the bond servant of Christ than a slave of sin! The freedom that the child of God enjoys is not the freedom to do as he pleases but the freedom to do that which pleases God. This is the purpose for which mankind was created.

  • @Pongyeyes Biblically sound you are, my friend. God Bless You!!! :)

  • where was this???

  • @tabitwin Midtown Manhattan

  • @greenherring2 this makes me happy. you have no idea how much. i live around mennonites and used to be one. this is hillarious.

  • Nice - but the Hare Krishna's are better!

  • I been in some mennoite groups online you people need to do your research before you judge this peaceful group. They are not modern for a reason.

  • I'm a mennonite. I am not oppressed. Please do your research on the Mennonite faith.

  • @dakotagerman1 "The kingdom of heaven is within." I see now where you're coming from, and can't disagree. BTW, ever ready Richard Bucke's "Cosmic Consciousness"? Anyway, everyone's on their own schedules to enlightenment. Some are just farther along than others, so just give these people some slack. They're not harming anyone.

  • @dakotagerman1 "...what it is to be truly enlightened spiritually" Apparently you think these people don't have it, but YOU DO! Please, do share with us your exalted understanding of these matters. (And anyway, what do you care what these people believe and how they choose to live?)

  • someone's bitter!

  • These are not Old Order Mennonites. These are car-driving Fellowship Mennonites who broke off from the Amish during the 1970's and 1980's. Old Order Mennonites do not conduct active missionary work such as this (I grew up in the Amish church).

  • @Lakeside1able yes theses are still older mennonites and the amish brook off from the mennonites

  • As a Mennonite, obviously I am not a Old Traditional Style, I appreciate our Brothers and Sisters in Plain Clothing.

  • For everyone wondering, yes, there are different 'levels' of Mennonites. There are extremely traditional (old-order) mennonites in which the women wear dresses and head coverings. There are more liberal dressing Mennonites (as was stated in a previous comment) whom you could not pick out in a crowd. But those are the main differences. All Mennonites fundamentally have the same core beliefs. They are hard-working pacifists, and some choose to live simply. Is there any harm in that?

  • The voice of one crying in the wilderness.

Make straight the way of the Lord!!

    God Bless them

  • What I noticed was how everyone in the subway station was in such a hurry.

Rush Rush, got to make money to keep the economy going. Gotta pay the credit card bills . We can take a lesson from the old order mennonites and amish.

  • @gizzykat Amen!!!! I am about to exit membership in a Lutheran church and ... possibly ... explore life as a Mennonite or Amishman. Perhaps I won't succeed in my spiritual journey, but I will never lack in appreciation and admiration for the way Mennonites and Amish folk place the Lord and just plain ol' hard work above any temptation that might exist.

  • Did you know Jesus wasn't born on Christmas?

  • Very true ... xmas as we know it today has pagan roots and was not celebrated by early Christians. I suggest a study on it.

  • There used to be a Christian nudist camp in Florida and some of the Christians who visited were Mennonites.

  • Thank God for holy people sharing the joy of Christ with those outside the 4 walls of the Church'!

  • Singing songs of their faith in a very public place while wearing traditional clothes that make them stand out from the crowd...that sure seems like a suppressed people!!

  • Oh my friend, If you ever find the Savior, you will find that JOY UNSPEAKABLE AND FULL OF GLORY! If they didn't think it was worth sharing with this sinful sick world they wouldn't be out there singing! People living under the weight of sin and shame are a "suppressed" people! You too can be free to serve Christ in the beauty of holiness!

  • Reread my comment considering it may be sarcastic.

  • Were you responding to TheRealReasonForDP? If so, I can see your sacastic point! Sorry for misunderstanding your comment!

  • they seem like a suppressed people..

  • they are flat.. or sharp.. somethings off

  • This is obviously an older order of Mennonites. My family orgins are Russian Mennonites who settle in Kansas. My father now lives in Idaho where there are many mennonites residing.

  • But the world biggest religious community is the Church of the Mammonites.

Every religious community consists of more than one third of them!

  • I think this is cool! Greetings from Sweden to all Mennonites.

  • That is very disrespectful to Mennonites in general! They don't believe in fornication or adultrey.

  • Comment removed

  • What happened to their German hymns? This is American Baptist music.

  • I met a group in the Times Square station too in NYC they gave me a CD filled with songs which to this day I cherish. I'm so glad I ran into them that day :-D

  • Heaven bless them for their courage and plainness, keeping them safe upon this Earth.

  • I live by Mennonites and they don't dress like that!!! Are you sure these are Mennonites?

  • there are different sub-groups.

  • There are LOTS of different Mennonites.

  • this is so impressive. havent encountered of such church before

  • If I was entering the subway that day, their singing would have been a pleasant suprise.

  • You must be some off the deep end mennonite. Mennonites are not allowed to wear shorts ever in public much less church. tv and radio are off limits to as they are detremental to christian living

  • I'm a Mennonite and when's it's warm out I wear shorts to church.

  • Shame on you! That's about the most disrespectful thing I've ever heard of! When God delivered the man of the tombs of devils, he was found CLOTHED and in his RIGHT MIND! You better read what God considers nakedness in the Bible!

  • old stuff

  • While vacationing in NE Ohio some years ago, I was given a tour of the town Charm by a local, Mennonite doctor. At one point, he showed me the one-room schoolhouse where the Amish and Mennonite children--called 'Scholars'--attended, and then proudly told me,

"Yes, I AM a graduate of "charm school!" :-D

  • Not easy to sing in the subway, but they sing very good, and I like the hymns!

  • i'm a mennonite myself, and i'd guess this is prolly a reformed Mennonite church, i maybe wrong( i follow reformed mennonite beliefs, bordering on the old order) alot of the restrictions you hear about in the old order mennonite and old order amish are not because its evil, its because to protect their culture, and i dunno where people get off saying that mennoties or the amish are bad parents, they are the nicest people overall i've ever met, before and after i became a mennonite.

  • Don't listen to these fools. They see that the Amish/Hutterites/Mennonites are very homogeneous, mainly because they want to preserve their way of life, and so they call them racist or this or that. If they arbitrarily let people in, their free way of life would be altered in a major way. As far as parenting, they're probably some of the best, because they function as a community, instead of as individuals, which means each kid has a lot of people looking out for him or her.

  • i agree 110% i guess i forgot that in my original point. thanks for bringing it up.

  • hm, interesting. it is very true that they are like the nicest people ever. i live very close to one of the Mennonites communities, so we go there and buy vegetables and fruites ( they have a little store). And the other day one of the boys invited me into their church but i do not even know how to dress proper so i'll not embarrass anyone there

  • That's awesome. You should check out the chruch, who knows you might be pleasantly suprised :) Just wear a dress and a head scarf, as you say they are the nices people ever, I'm shure they would see your effort and welcome you with open arms :) Hope you do go, if you do, let me know how it goes :) Thanks.

  • where is it ? - thanks

    marc in nyc

  • Greetings. I am Mennonite. Just want to encourage you and whoever else who may be interested in attending a Mennonite church, don't worry about clothes. We love and welcome ALL visitors. So please come on over and give us a visit. I can almost promise you that someone will have you into their home for some good home style cookin' ... mmm pies... : )

  • so your brainwashed?

  • sammelnovember.

if you were a mennonite then you would not be using computers or internet. my fiance is a mennonite and in the mennonites there is no music or computers.

    tooolmaniac.

i agree with crunchrule3. mennonite parents do not abuse their children. mennonites can be some of the nicest people on earth.

  • yes and no. old colony mennonites will not use computers, internet, etc. however, mennonite tradition in canada (and in particular southern manitoba; i.e. the menno belt lol) is taking on a more cultural feel as opposed to religious. i.e. i and many of my friends would call ourselves mennonite but wouldn't follow most of the old colony traditions yet would hold and love the cultural aspects as well as many of the menno "worldviews"; it's complicated to explain.

  • Each church has a unique government among mennonites and Amish. They don't have "headquarters." (Like also the constitution intended America to be, in sight of the dangers of big government). Therefore, while some congregations ban computers, others don't. But they are extremely careful regarding its use. TV is banned for the most part.Mennonites that allow TV in their homes have lost almost completely their unique traits. I am not Menno, but TV is like the sewage system discharging in your home.

  • O ba yo!

  • Praise Jesus.

  • This is quite nice :-)!

I actually had the chance to see a group of Mennonites in Los Angeles...great! I love how they sing :-)!

  • Thats a meen thing to say.

  • Oh for cryin' out loud, get a sense of humor. FYI: I grew up in a Mennonite community, went to Mennonite schools, have Mennonite friends. Believe it or not, they have a sense of humor & tease me about my religion too. And btw: it's spelled mean-not meen. :)

  • i am from germany and i am mennonite!...in germany i am a minority, i like punk rock, industrial, black and death-metal, sonic youth and all other heads who doesn`t any frontiers in their head....i believe!!this video is my family was all about...i love

  • i grew up in ohio also, and 'my heart will always b there'. lol my parents are mennnonite, as i used to b.

  • why??

  • tooolmaniac: um, i don't kno where u got that piece of information, but it's not true. i grew up mennonite. it's a very close and loving culture, and is honestly just a more conservative branch of Christianity.

  • there is nothing corrupt about it.

  • hey this is cool, cause i actually went there to New York city subway and sang with my mennonite frends from a church named Church of God in Christ Mennonite, in Fleetwood PA.. I'm full blooded asian though much respect to mennonite people.

  • They are singing in the subway system. Space constraints force me to resort to newspaper headline type English. Do you routinely attack newspapers for their use of English in their headlines?

  • They are actually singing IN a subway, or ON a subway platform-don't they teach proper preposition usage anymore?!

  • these are white caps, they are mennonite, but a white cap is like a really strict mennonite, they dont were pants, they have to were a white cap, etc.

  • My late grandmother from ohio was a dunkard. You dont hear to much about dunkards

  • I'm Dunkard! haha

  • TheyrKhazars, listen:Do not be too much generalizing! There are angels and devils wherever you go.I am sure there are good amish ones too just as well as bad ones, like it is everywhere.

  • And now you just seem to be tormented by your own confusion. The Mennonites and Jews (not khazars) I have encountered have been a delight to know.

  • I completely agree with you. I grew up down the rad from a family of mennonites and they are the nicest people you could ever meet.

  • Yes, it has been my experience as well that United Pentecostals are divisive. Groups like that tend to turn in on themselves and implode. If the UPs had been around as long as the Mennonites have, they would have a LOT of different ideas about salvation.

  • Mennonite's are the best at Choir Singing...except for the Black folks, they are amazing singers!!! I go to a Mennonite church, and every sunday the harmony could not be any better.

  • Your right I was raised with this very group, they are the same as anyone else out there, there religion doesn't make them any better or worse than anyone else,no one gets to God through a certain lifestyle.

  • A life of knowledge? And what do we know?

  • I think it sounded good. I wish more people would be courageous enough to get out and sing about their love for God in a subway.

  • These are conservative Mennonite and they do dress plain and look Amish.

    Bishop Michael Capps, Ph.D

  • they dont look mennonite they look amish or huldamone! im mennonite and even the old order ones dont wear caps like that

  • There may be some Mennonites of German descent but the low german language spoken is not in fact german but closer to a dutch peasant language (therefore not a written language). I believe most Mennonites originated in Holland, Switzerland and Poland, not Germany.

  • Most of the Mennonites in Pennsylvania and those emanating from there speak the Swabian language. This language is spoken in Switzerland, SW Germany and Alsace. However there were also many low Saxon speaking Mennonites in N Germany and in the territories that went to Poland and Russia. Many of these are found in Kazakstan and Canada nowadays

  • I think the Pennsylvania folks are somewhat unique in that repect. I'm a "product" of the thousands of Mennonites who immigrated to Canada in the 1870's for southern Russia and then many moved to Mexico in the 1920's for educational freedom which was promised in Canada and then rescinded later. Our language is not Swabian nor our history. Hence my comments. Thanks for the reply.

  • nice singing! i like the pretty dresses, some of the mennonite gals around here don't even wear dresses anymore..i say if you're gonna be a mennonite do it right.

  • Amen! LOL!! I am a Mennonite Gal. Our church is a liitle different. We wear plain, modest dress patterns. But we also wear printed fabric. You know with flowers or some kind of design. And our caps are black.

  • Rock on Jebidia!!

  • awesome singing. I like it.

  • I'm sorry but that is no way to try and deface the mennonites. They might be good in bed but that doesn't mean to publisize it like that. You sound like you are just so happy that someone probably felt so sorry for ya.

  • theyre actually pro-sexual unlike other religions?

not that im one of those superhorny guys, im just glad that there are religious people who are not so anti-towards sex--which is a natural act

  • they sing much better but you can't really get the real thing on film especially while they are in a subway station. So there you have it. I'm mennonite and we sing much better than the rap singers these days.

  • hehe, no argument here. i hate todays rappers

  • Perhaps you should consider that getting converts is not always the focus. Sometimes, it is just being there, sanctifying that piece of ground to God and shining the light into the darkness.

  • Why do you say that? The Mennonites I know are anything but Nazis.

  • @AmosPressley

wait what? someone compared the Mennonites to Nazi's? wow, that's Low. The Mennonites suffered the most out of the Christian groups at the time, and where imprisoned regularly, for pacifism, etc.
