  • This song needs to be rewritten to today's times. I can only imagine.

  • I am almost half Cherokee believe it or not and my dad's mother was Apache The difference is very noticeable. So I think it is a lot like a mother knowing her own child's cry in a room full of toddlers it is part of the fiber of who we are to know our own.

  • My history teacher showed my class the difference between the history book he used, and ours. Ours was half the size because of parents suing and demanding things be removed.

The demise of the American Indians used to be 11 pages long- now they only get a half a page.

Because, according to parents, it made the white men look racist.

    Guess what, people- THEY WERE.

  • Funny also, how the horse became such a huge part of Native culture, when Horses aren't a native species to North America, and were brought over from Europe.

  • all this fighting... can't we just enjoy the song? :)

  • Hal Blaine on his famous Monster Kit with spun fiberglass concert toms. Which Ludwig later created and called the Octaplus.

  • I don't even know if I have cherokee blood in my veins but ppl always ask me am i cherokee I don't know if I should be honored or annoyed

  • My ex husband is 1/4 Cherokee (I guess that makes our daughter 1/8) My family lived in western NC for a about 150 years right along side what is now the Cherokee Nation (NC & TN) Would my daughter be considered Cherokee? I love aboriginal culture!

  • I am 100% Mi'kmaq First Nation & Proud!

  • Well all these fractions you're throwing around are blood quantum ratios. Which "blood quantum" is a completely racist & dishonest system, beginning much longer than 3-4 generations ago. A white would inspect the color of a native's skin & facial features and tell this man how "indian" he really was. What you should be proud of is how well you know your own culture, considering there was over 500 tribes w/ different cultures in North America before the Europeans clumped them all into 1 people.

  • @ktwsu345 Well look who's trying to sound like an intellectual here on youtube. Look at yourself; what do you see? Oh, a mentally challenged pot-head. Go suck a dick you dumbass.

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver how am I mentally challenged if I'm trying to sound intellectual? How am I a dumbass? Everything I said is fact, so... oh and not to mention that I have a masters in Native American Studies. That's right, the fact that this is my area of expertise is what makes me stupid. Not really even sure how what I said could've set you off, but you're the one that should look inward as to what the hell your problem is.

  • Great VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey this is a great song im 1/3 cherokee always wanted to learn about my ancestors

  • @TheBlade2013 Unless you have three biological parents, how are you 1/3 Cherokee?

  • @CopelandMeister Great grandparents dumb ass.

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver You have 8 great grandparents, sir or madam. In order to be 1/3 Cherokee Indian because of your great grandparents, 2.6 of your great grandparents would need to be Cherokee Indian.

  • Thorold Ontario has alot of Native History

  • I literally have Cherokee and European heritage. Why should I be ashamed or disgruntled at anything that happened so long ago? Most Indians got bred out by the white man(not by rape or force either.) Most atrocities towards native americans were derived from the mind of one man, who ordered either the slaughter of their food, or the march across the country that ended in "tears". I have a relative who actually survived that walk of shame, and he ultimately married a white woman.

  • This is an awesome video and a tribute to the first Americans. They suffered a lot at the hands of the new arrivals. One of the lesser known facts is that our early European ancestors killed untold numbers of these honorable people as well as members of other native American tribes with of all things-Biological warfare-Yes our forefathers diliberately gave disease infected blankets to various tribes around the U.S. to help kill off the *Godless savages*. I hope they regain their power.

  • i love this song

  • Very artistic video to a classic song!

  • I truly believe -like the end of the song says,- that they will return.

We have to live in nature, that is the way god ment a live to be.

And it cannot go on for ever, how the world is now.

One day it will end, and we may start all over, doing it good this time.

So we have to take a good look how the indians and gypsies and nature people lived, In piece and harmonie and wisdom, other wise, we will struggle, and pay for it, for ever.

The debt must be met, some how, thats a univeral law.

  • @indigorenk gypsies? Try Romani. You seem to have a fantasy about 'the good old days' that never really existed. Such a debt, as you call it, can never be re-paid. Do a little more research on the Romani before tossing a word like 'gypsy' around and if you insist on using such a word, which we hate, at least cap it.

  • @jjjjj198922 Did you see my other comments. What do you have to say about these hick rebel wannabes or folks from the deep south that want to proudly fly the confederate flag & display bumper stickers w/the conf flag on their trucks that say crap like "Fighting Terrorism Since 1861"? Do the American Indians find that offensive? Do you find that insulting? I can honestly say I do.

  • my mom was full blooded japaneese my dad was american they bombed & killed all my loved ones on both sides . they brought her to the us to be tortued from a us army guy & buried back in japan , i lost like the indians. i feel like iam torn between two countrys & haated by family kids & japan . & us because iam a biker &. 1 day they will return stronger & will return with a stronger & we will know them & all are generation & ancesters, that they destroyed. may they rest in piece!! love sue

  • i love this song, the video and EVERYTHING ABOUT the words.

    it is all true.

they gave us an inch...we took 50000 acres

We...are the stupid white man for this...

Wish they could have all their stuff/life/land back...

Thank you so much for keeping this video up..

    It is truely amazing

    just sayin..

  • This song is one with meaning and it's sad but true. I love this song not only for the music and the lyrics but also it's meaning.

  • im glad we did it this is our land

  • We came west and treated the natyon's as if they had no right's when they were here before us. Ut was a terrible what happened we should restore there nations to prominace/

  • I do not know how much Cherokee is in my blood but my grandfather's grandmother was Cherokee and am always proud to of it. Also repect every native American ive met.

  • Cherokee payback! Take all the white man's money in the casinos.

  • Aawwwsome. I may not be Cherokee, I am still a red man inside, I am Ojibway. This is a keepsake.

  • Aawwwsome. I may not be Cherokee, I am still a red man inside, I am Ojibway. This is a keepsake.

  • What a great song, kind of brings tears remembering the first time hearing this song while on vacation in 1971. The American Indian deserved better than the way they were treated. I loved this song then and I love it now, I bought a 45 copy in 1971 when it was released, still have it. Thumbs up guys.

  • THANKS FOR SHARING

  • I love that video .. its totaly cool good job,.

  • It's not right for the white racists (especially Confederate flag worshippers) to label the Native Americans as terrorists. Those people are naive anyhow. They know this was Native American land well before any white settlers came here. The rebs just want to start shit & they know the Native Americans will kick their asses.

  • @bucky468 if they were in fact going to kick white peoples asses dont you think this would have happened say a couple hundred years ago when they had a chance dip

  • @tooliscool246 Are you one of those racist rebs or are you Native American?

  • @bucky468 Nope just a normal white guy making a observation of your flawed logic.

  • Comment removed

  • @tooliscool246 Well I have more respect for the American Indian tribes than most yanks & rebs especially those yahoos w/the bumper stickers showing the Confederate flag that say "Fighting Terrorism Since 1861" which is BS. Indians have been fighting terrorism since 1492. So America is their country & it's been their land since 1492.

  • Pisses me off every time the rebs have bumper stickers w/the Confederate flag on it that reads "Fighting Terrorism Since 1861". The Native Americans settled here WAY before the white man ever did. The American Indians have been fighting terrorism since 1492. Maybe even way before then.

  • @bucky468 u right. since the so called conquers arrive on this great side of the world from the patagonias to the north pole they terrorize violate n kill the natives, and know they celebrate 4 of july"s, thanks given n bull .this is an insult to all the indians, now days the goverments around the world r the new conquers, they conquer u wages n liberty on the name of bushit n force all of u to work n keep all of u in jails that they call nations i call them reservations for the new indians

  • @traslomita But the 4th was to celebrate America's independence from British control. Even when the Native Americans settled here (long before we the white people did) it was British territory. I'm sure even that the Native Americans wanted America as its own country instead of being under control by another country. Thanksgiving was actually supposed to be a peace offering between the Native Americans & the white people back in the 17th century. Not intended to be insulting at all.

  • @bucky468 That may have been the dumbest comment I ever read. The indigenous people came to Americas probably from 15,000 - 10,000 years ago crossing the Bering Strait. There was not yet a nation of England at that time. I won't even get started about Thanksgiving.

  • @pheeel17 So what are you saying? Your point please.

  • @bucky468 I'm trying to figure out what you meant when you said "Even when the Native Americans settled here, it was British territory." maybe i misinterpreted you, but it sounds like you were saying the British arrived before the native americans.

  • @pheeel17 Umm, I never said that. I said back in 1492 America was just discovered & that was Indian land. Never said anything about the Brits controlling the US. The Indians here long before the white man. When England took control almost a century after Columbus (an Italian) discovered America the Indians were still living there. America was Indian territory long before any white man came here. That was the point. When the Civil War started the Indians were still here. It was their land.

  • Look into the Mayans, they actually say that White Bearded men were here when they got here, and taught them all they know.

  • @pheeel17 Ok. Then what's your opinion on these yahoos who drive around w/bumper stickers displaying the Confederate flag saying crap like "Fighting Terrorism Since 1861"? Wasn't the Deep South Indian territory long before the white man came here?

  • @pheeel17 columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hurdred and ninety two.

  • @traslomita You are right about the white people/settlers taking over what was Native American land. What Andrew Jackson did to the Cherokees was bullshit. His actions were obviously the precursor to what would be the Civil War. Most Native Americans either moved west or moved north w/people who they thought respected them. I know a couple true Native Americans who are more offended by pro & college sport teams like Indians, Braves, Warriors, Redskins, etc than they are July 4th or Thanksgiving.

  • One of the best videos I have ever seen.

  • @JDK0316191 Though I see your point the final thing you said is very...irate.

  • When I hear this song, I think about a modern Cherokee--who was one of the greatest warriors who ever lived. His name was Commander Ernest Evans. He was outgunned a thousand to one. He chose to fight to the death. For the CHIEF, I change the words a little bit. I sing: a CHEROKEE WARRIOR HAS RETURNED. His Medal of Honor citation begins: for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty...That day the CHIEF showed the samurai how a Cherokee warrior fought..

  • Great Song! Thanks for putting it on here. If people always looking back at the things they've missed you won't know what hit ya. Learn from the past but lets try not to dwell on it. They are not us and we are not them. It's all a big negative blemish in our history I know but to focus our energy on that instead of the real troubles we face today is ignorance. My advice is not to live in the past but learn from it and lets all give each other a break, by laying off one another.

  • OH NOEZ NOT THE VIDEO MR MANN I SORRYZ

  • I can remember exactly where I was the first time I heard this song. It was 1968 and it was the Don Fardon version, three years before Paul Revere and the Raiders.

I was 16 year old and painting a fence. I had lost my home, my father: Everything in my life that mattered. Yes, I understood this song completely. . .it hit me right where I lived.

What we did to the Cherokee and other nations was beyond shameful.

  • a horrible thing white did

  • I loved this song when I was a kid... I didn't exactly know what it was about, but I got the feeling it concerned something "bad"... Same thing with "You Keep Me Hangin' On"...

  • TO BE HONEST THE PEOPLE WERE SOLD OUT BY THE BANKSTERS OF THAT TIME AND JUST LIKE TODAY THE SAME PEOPLE IM AMERICAN AND RED BLOODED REDMAN AND FIRST NATION THIS IS THE BEST SONG THEY CAME OUT WITH NOW HERE IS THE QUESTION THERE WAS A TSALIGI VERSION OF THIS SONG DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHERE TO GET IT OR PUT IT ON HERE ON YOUTUBE

  • @mrwarmth21 That's so cool!!---I guess that makes us cousins...(smile) When I found out I was part Cherokee..it was the best day in my life. You have a Safe Memorial weekend...

    Peace,

    Yvonne

  • @mrwarmth21 Per the internet....Surrender Speech by Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. :)

  • There should be no reservations. Native Americans are US citizens and should be subject to US law. If they want to keep their communities fine but the tribes don't send their kids to school, built casinos to buy booze, and sponge off the government.

  • They came to the Casinos they will bring back what they lost

  • My Ancestries was Cherokee My Great Great Great

Grandmother was this, in my time the lord Jesus Christ in there time the same

  • DoubleNIGGER

  • I love the way you added such wonderful pictures to this video. It is such a great song that helps me teach my children about the history of this country. The bad and the good. The weak and the so very strong.

  • killer yankees

  • Don't be too quick to buy into the "noble savage" myth. Long before the white man came, Indians were at war with each other, practicing torture, mass murder, human sacrifice and cannibalism. Fortunately, the "evil white devil" put an end to it, saving the lives of millions of Indians in the process.

  • @dyad2r1 What an arrogant thing to say. The "evil white devil" saved millions of Indians by killing millions of Indians with his disease, genocide, and everything in between huh? A twisted mind is a horrible thing to waste, isn't it.

  • @dyad2r1

What I said is based on fact. I suggest you bone up on your history.

  • Хуйня.

  • Euro White Devil!

  • Part Cherokee.. on my moms side

  • Sandniggers

  • @4Melbu4 <---- to wit.

  • the first "recyclers" & they loved & che

  • Native Americans should not want to live in American society, if they know whats best, if youve payed attention youd Know that american society is crumbling fast

  • Who took what from the lost tribe of juda, and why?The same one who can give it back. I done my homework. My Grandma was halfbreed and a Christian. . Abraham's children will inherit the earth.

  • love this song! thanks for posting! i spent the night at a reservation casino in new mexico (i think), and they had signs for paul revere & the raiders since they were playing there that month. this was a couple years ago... i didn't know they were still around.

  • I grew up in Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Studied the history some. My great-grandparents on both sides participated in the Cherokee Strip run into OK, which again took the Indian land and gave it to whites. See the movie "Far and Away". The Indians' communal land was divided up by "head rights" (percentage of Indian blood) and let the racers and the cheaters (the ones who came in before the cannons went off at Noon, claim the rest. "Sooners" snuck in before the starting guns. OU Football team!.

  • The song tells the story of American Politics ! they can never just let people alone ! Stinking politicians...great song :)

  • I'm a white nationalist (not hate for other races, just realizing our differences) and would like to say that this IS your land, and one day you WILL have it back :)

  • The ULTIMATE AMERICANS! You don't get any more American than a Native American!!!

  • sounds like blow wind blow from one of robert plants newer albums kinda lame of plant hahaha

  • @BeakingTheRez

So what did they do to you? Our people drove them from their land and forced our religion onto them.

  • @BeakingTheRez well then language

  • the only bad thing about the Cherokee people was threwout history they were always traders on there own people. even there own tribe. sitting bull was killed by one of his own to impress the white eye. blackfeet dont roll like that. blackfeet calgary. red power

  • I live near the Trail of Tears in southern Illinois---My great grandfather and grandmother were Cherokee...but I didn't know until 2 years ago about my heritage....It is a wise man that remembers the past, when charting his potential future... Thank you for sharing this video...we plan to play and video this song soon...

    Peace,

    Yvonne and Bob

  • necessary to help the Indians their land back

  • Great video and terrific song. Thank you for uploading this!

  • Such a powerful song. You hear so much complaining from certain other minority groups(let's not have to say who) but there is hardly any protests from us Cherokee and other Indian Tribes though we are still having to fight government for sovereignity rights to land and other rights. That's what makes us strong, I think. We remember the injustices of the past, but always look to the future. As my grandfather once said, "We are a fallen nation." Let's continue to stick up and be proud!

  • One of my favorite songs. Thanks for posting such a clear audio and the video was great too.

  • the seven people that hit the thumbs down button are the real savages.

  • @hoy455 Or the relatives of Custer.....

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver Maybe, if this video was about the Sioux...

  • @hoy455 Actually two Indian tribes were at the battle of little bighorn.

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver Ah, but it wasn't the Cherokee. I think it was the Comanche.

  • @hoy455 You know you don't have to be a dick all the time right? It was just a light joke, so shove it faggot.

  • @SnakeDoctorSilver Whoa, I wasn't try to be an ass at all, just informative. No need to jump to the gun.

  • @hoy455 Yeah, let's call people savages because they don't like a song. That certainly is a great way to get some thumbs up on Youtube.

  • @Airestorm There was an intended reason for the comment, I am not a thumb whore.

  • @hoy455 You DO realize those stupid observations make those who read it want to dislike even more, right? Go kill yourself.

  • Whats the difference between a couch and an indian?

The couch can support a family.

  • @chris24525346346 Your not even an American you hocky puck head. Come on south I'll scalp your stupid KKK lovin ass you fag!!!!!!!!!.

  • @chris24525346346 Hey chris2452346346 why dont you just shut your mouth us natives were here in america first!

  • @bestskater12346 i live in canada and the indians here are worse than the blacks in america they live off the government and sit on there drunks asses blaming the white man for all there problems

  • @chris24525346346 Spoken like a true bigot you fag what do you drive you fag!!!!.

  • @chris24525346346

Because of the handouts, they've lost their will and drive. Best way to destroy a people, give them handouts. Then they lose ambition. They have low tolerance to the white man's "fire water" and not adapted to the white man's food (processed, sugar, fast food), hence the diabetes and alcoholism. Yes, the white man is still trying to annialate the Indian.

  • @TheBlueiis You're right about "handouts causing people to lose ambition", though I might amend that to CONTINUOUS handouts (as opposed to the government giving handouts if something catastrophic happens, like losing a job, and NEEDING aid for a time). Did you know that the people who originally made "fire water" actually put some things in it (like soap and wood alcohol), because "if it didn't make you sick, it wasn't authentic"?

  • Comment removed

  • @surfdog321 i would give you my address but i dont think your tireless 1964 chevy impala could make the drive

  • WTF? Native Americans never had a written language. Furthermore these guys were not even Indian. WTF?

  • @ampzilla747 Sequoyah developed a written language for the Cherokee Nation which gave them the ability to create the first American Indian newspaper.

  • Omg I hate the fags that act like theyvno what this song is about I would laugh if it's about Nazis and the kkk

  • @BlueTieMafia yes im sure that is what its about. you know lyrics really dont mean anything do they? no no of course not... silly me, actually using my brain when listening to the song...

  • only the good die young

  • that's why i've always loved the movie"Billy Jack"because he stood up & defended them when even the government would'nt!

  • definitely makes you think about how things definitely have'nt changed, unfortunately.uncle sam still does'nt treat the american indian with the respect they deserve!

  • People don't realize that the New World Order started and the first holocaust (documented) was when the white man put his first step on the Indian Nation. They came in the name of their God , took the Indian Nation and declared it One Nation Under their God.

    Sis..

    Sis.

  • My Grandfather on my mothers side was from a Cherokee reservation in Oklahoma . • Someday, they will return. I love this song though.

  • Tena Koe, As a member of an Indigenous people in the South Pacific, I applaud your video. The best way to get redress from past wrongs is by Education, the Ballot box and the Law. Once you have acheived your goal, and only you will know when, then forgiveness, carrying on greivances will eat you up inside. Ka kite Ano.

  • I'm half apache and half blond blue eyed italian you want to talk about hate even from my own blood but I'm ok about it my father took me to the reservation he was born on in n.m. and ya in the past a lot of our people gave up but now we take care of our own with money from casinos and other things and like someone said the greatest thing the white man did for us was make us learn their language so we now talk to all tribes and work alongside each other to make things better for native americans

  • If this is to be about the Cherokee?....half the pictures are of Lakotah Tribes?..and Navajoe?

  • I love America, I fought for our country as a Marine. But a fact is a fact the treatment of the indigenous people by the invading Europeans is a bloodstain on our great history,

My blood is Scottish & Comanche.

  • that's Hal Blaine and The Wrecking Crew playing the music.

Hal's playing what's known as his famous Monster Kit, it was 7 custom made fiberglass concert toms fitted with Ludwig hardware

  • Cool Video - well done

  • I assumed it was a Don Fardon song covered by the raiders...nope:

"Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" is a song written by John D. Loudermilk. It was first recorded in 1959 by Marvin Rainwater and released as "The Pale Faced Indian".
