It's a pity that Aragall didn't know how to sing in mezza voce and forces Caballé to sing louder and avoid some of her ravishing pianissimi, as she had already sung in the recording with Domingo, conducted by Giulini

Superb, they are both superb. She sings "ma lassu ci vedremo" in an exquisite pianissimo, refined to the nth degree, with the plangent sadness it requires. His phrasing elegance is admirable. Despite the Mistral, a sublime performance, comparable to her historic 1974 NORMA, again in Orange. I have just ordered this DON CARLO DVD from Amazon, can't wait for it to arrive!

Incredible singing especially as there was a strong Mistral bowing into the stage that night. Aragall sublime as ever and with the glorious voice of Caballe , it was a night I will never forget. The plangent tone of Jaume is so beautiful.

Aragall is a great tenor' for me better than Carrera and better than Domingo, but not better than Pavarotti.

Pavarotti remains the greatest.Aragall is a close second.

There is one aria on La Grande Notte a Verona also the Barcelona Games video, also the opening of the Seville Opera House. I will find others for you, anyone who recognises Aragall as the greatest tenor of the 20th century has good taste.

A worthy reminder of just how great Aragall could be when not tortured by his nerves. He is superior to Carreras in nearly every regard, but he didn't enjoy the sponsorship of Caballe and the recording companies. Domingo pays great tribute to him in his autobiography - genuinely baffled that he was not named in the pantheon of the so-called 'Three Tenors'.

I am sorry but i cant agree. aragall had a wonderful voice but the voice of carreras when he were young was supreme and pure quality, there were some operas which carreras sang as no one else on earth, they are carmen, la forza del destino, stifelio and many other but it is a matter os taste.

Finally a tribute to a great tenor, Jaime Aragall. If only they'd used him more in recordings. I'd easily sacrifice the late Carreras recordings for more Aragall.
