I just re read my post and it sounds a bit like I've called your guitar weird looking - It is no such thing ! I was only referring to Dave Evans Guitar which I have recently found out that he strung with heavy gauge strings. Apparently they don't make heavy gauge strings much anymore as they destroy guitar tops. Anyway thanks for the video its bloody excellent.
Wow I have so much admiration for you guys that not only play beautifully but also happen to have built your own instrument - And might I add that that is a fantastic sounding guitar. I have a 3000 dollar Taylor that pales by comparison !! The great thing about this is that I think Dave Evans also built his own weird looking guitars which sounded amazing. Awesome!!!
@bevanmcg that's right, I remember the Dave Evans album on Kicking Mule records with one of his hand-built guitars on the front, it was all square edges rather than seductive curves. THis I made is curvy but a bit of lob-sided misshape but it does sound great, evrybody seems to think so. I think one of the reasons it does is that I accidentally made the top very thin, too thin I think to last decades, but seeing as I'm getting on a bit that is not an issue ! :-) ta for commenting :-)
Re: tabs - the original tab book that came with the Sad Pig Dance is included on the reissue CD as a pdf file. You should not trust those tabs explicitly - use your ears as well, there are a few small differences between what is written and what you hear.
sorry I posted the same video.I love the guitar. I'm a fair wood carver but I can't imagine anyone playing this well and knowing all the crafts to make a guitar like this.
Absolutely marvellous! I'm in the middle of trying to find Dave Evans guitar tabs at the minute - I'm not great at guitar, but my fingerpicking's not bad and I'd like to challenge myself. Watching you play has only inspired me more!
@bonuscheesemilk Your comment was made a long time ago....... if you are still looking at Dave Evans stuff, there is a Tab for Stagefright in the Stefan Grossman book Masters of Fingerpicking Guitar
Yes, its one I made myself, cedar top and mahogany back and sides. It turned out a slightly odd shape - one of my early attempts at side bending, but its my favourite because I lvoe the sound of it :-) Glad you liked it :-)
Please tell me how I can get a set of recordings of Dave Evans. He is my favorite guitarist of all time, but I've only heard about three of his tracks!
very nice indeed! I loved the Sad Pig Dance album, then he did one where he sang that was terrible, then what happened to him? I know he makes guitars, but did he record any more good stuff?
Well, Sad Pig Dance and the 'terrible' one with singing that you refer to are the only ones I know of - this tune came from the singing one as it happens, but probably its highpoint :-)

Nice rendition of a great tune--I love the old guitar, what a great opened up sound. Anybody know what model it is?
