  • Good rock died after the 80's.

  • They certainly looked like they were having a good time...We're still waiting for the "reunion"....right?

  • Without a doubt , this is the first time Beck was ever on stage with actual musicians .

  • This should be calle dwhy DLR is sucha DICKHEAD

  • It's a shame. Maybe it was the cancer, maybe it was his cancerous marriage to Val, but whatever it was it ripped that shit-eating grin right off of Eddie's face. After the fuck tour was over and he ditched the alcohol he became this old miserable bastard. Dave's got a monster ego. They all do, but Dave is the only guy who remembers what this band truly is: A balls-out chick smashing rock n roll party machine! Rock on DLR! XD

  • Dave adds humer and showmanship, Nothing wrong with that why be serious its rock n roll

  • LOOK AT AL WHEN BECK IS TALKING,HES LIKE YOUR HIGHSCHOOL MATH TEACHER THAT WAS CAUGHT AT A STRIP CLUB,PAINFULLY UNCOMFORTABLE!!!

  • See how Dave just cuts Eddie off. That was the issue. Dave was a total selfish dick back then. Dave has come a bit more down to earth for sure which is one reason why they are back together. He still had ADHD though but learned to manage it better with a little help from aging.

  • @MormonManUtah agreed, Dave did a LOT of growing up in the past few years. He had to or VH would had called it quits in 2006 and A Different Kind Of Truth, a MONSTER album would have never happened, so massive kudos to DLR!

  • Beck >>>>>>>> David Lee Roth

  • '96 and Michael Anthony's rocks the Kentucky waterfall. '11 and the camero cut is still alive and well.

  • They saw KISS reunite, they tryed

  • If you ask me, Eddie was the one being a dick during this. Michael Anthony and Alex seem to have no problem with Dave's antics. Just Eddie. Go figure. Look at everyone who left VH with the exception of Gary Cherone. Dave when he left blamed Eddie, Sammy when he left blamed Eddie, and Anthony when he left blamed Eddie. I'm glad Van Halen is back, but I can honestly say if anyone other than David Lee Roth was singing, I wouldn't be into it. Ed is an AMAZING player, but seems like a prick, too.

  • @nWo24life Its sad what booze does to you :( But the good thing is that Eddie is clean and sober now and HOPEFULLY he's changed.

  • Dont forget how p' off people were, when they kicked him out yet again.

  • My God classic =VH= with Diamond was so damn good even black people stood up and screamed!!

  • Damn it Dave, cant you restrain yourself?!

  • Dave shut up you ruin everything...

  • Comment removed

  • eddie was pissed huh?

  • Awesome night. Eddie had to ruin it.

  • Jeeze the other three guys are flatliners in this.

  • Can u imagine if they toured that year??!? It would have been epic

  • @Saebeck32 Yeah, right... I doubt Eddie and Roth would could have done a single show in the same arena that year without trying to kill each other.

  • @GTAfan421 would *or could

  • The crowd isn't that excited with Wolfie, that's for sure...lol

Did they really think Roth wasn't going to ham it up? Really???

  • boy 1996 sure sucked for music

  • @fromcali2549 Load was a sign of things to come...

  • Beck is more talented than David Lee Roth

  • Sheesh, Beck recorded some cool songs, but he has absolutely NO personality. My gosh, put the crowd out of its misery.

  • The crowd response to DLR says it all. It really WAS all about Dave. It is clear here that Eddie has no stage personality and nothing to say. If all you want is to watch shoe-gazing musicians wank on their instruments, go to your local blues jam. If you want to be entertained by a real showman, see Van Halen with DLR.

  • @kkelleybass van halen is eddie...it survived (and did excelent with hagar) without roth...it could never survive without eddie

  • omg.. I remember this like it was yesterday. HOLY SHIT. new album for VAN HALEN SOOn!!!!!

  • Eddie said was Beck was offended by David Lee Roth's behavior but Beck said just the opposite Beck said " David Lee Roth was being David Lee Roth".

  • Gimme your fuckin' M-TV or I'll blow your head off.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner beck was swallowed up by the hip hop / pop music movement of the late 90's, He cant compete with scandily clad women and hip hop thugs. he got dumped off.

  • Without question this was the "Diamond" Dave show and not Van Halen as a band. Watching this years later (Seen it when it first aired!) and how Dave acted that night makes me think, no wonder it didn't go that far. He really thought it was only about him. Prima donna!!!!

  • how the fuck did beck win?

  • COOLEST NERD EVER!!!!!!

  • D"D"D"DIamond Dave ...no no no D'D'D'Dumb ass ha ha ha

  • Eds face when Roth loud mouth opened up ha ha priceless...

  • As I understand it, it was during the press conference after this appearance that things went south. Ed was asked about his hip replacement surgery by a reporter and Dave was annoyed that the focus was on Ed's health and not on the prospect of a reunion and tour. To quote Eddie quoting Dave, "This is about me, man, not your hip."

  • beck is sucha "loser"

  • what is eddie wearing? is he suppose to be a painter?

  • Wow, look at the crap that was nominated back then. Music is dead and has been for a long time.

  • @judyneric I agree! Rock music has become classical music. After Grunge (Throwback shit from the 1970`s!) rock bands really bit the dust. Rap and pop have ruled ever since. Guitar driven music is making a comback though. What a fickle life!

  • @judyneric Ya things been pretty bad for a very long time, poor kids nowadays

  • where's kanye west when ya need him!!

  • I can see why Ed was pissed. Eddie was embarrassed by Dave's antics. It wasn't about them (van Halen or David Lee Roth), it was about just showing the rock world that they were together again and to give an award. But Dave took it too far and made it about him and the band.

Dave just go caught up in it and needed to realize that it wasn't the right time or place and that he'll have his time. He'll be able to make music and maybe tour. The standing ovation should have sufficed.

  • @AryanScot jesus christ dude....oh wait. should i have said that?

  • Dave rules

  • ....still don't understand why Alex and all was so pissed after this appearance....wtf did Dave do wrong?????

  • @debgibsonfan he jsut wanted dave to come up and do the announcement, but dave wanted to address that they were there on stage. so Alex went Ape S

  • lol...damn thing told me those first 2 replies didnt get posted...oh well...lol

  • thats some pretty shitty nomenies

  • coolio!!!

  • I only watched this for this 2 second clip of Anthony Keidis at the tail end.

  • lol Roth was acting like a goofball.. I admit it.. but eddie was also acting like an idiot..

  • Roth made Van Halen everyone in the business knows this except Eddie, D.A. !

  • @Momonoski then why did roth fail without eddie by his side?

  • @Pat9201 Roth never failed his albums did very well Roth just went on to do other things while Eddie decided to live inside the bottle, those are the real facts!

  • @Momonoski everytime roth solo went against van hagar..he lost.to be honest nothing really set van halen apart from other bands more than eddie.

  • @Pat9201 We can agree to disagree on this topic! Van Halen would have never been as big as they were if they had lost any one of the original members, each member brought his own creativity to the music & that is what created Van Halen NOT just Eddie, to date the VH CD's that have Roth on them is the largest selling VH music in real revenues & numbers with Hagar & everyone else not even coming close to the kinds of sales, that speaks volumes as to what made up VH!

  • @Momonoski i agree to a point but there is a very short list of bands that could accomplish what van halen did after their singer quits on them.whos to say their album sales wouldnt have declined much the same way if roth would have stayed?

  • @Pat9201 3 platinum (and 1 gold) solo albums is far from failure.

  • @jumpman574 van hagar still out did him

  • @Pat9201

van halen 1 and 1984 alone outsold the entire van fagar catalog. What the f..are you talking about?

  • @DirtyMovesUsa wow...van halen 1 and 1984 must have REALLY outsold dave roths solo bullshit then..lol

  • @Pat9201

Well well, if it isn't Hagar's biggest ball washer, Pat9201.Haha Its hilarious how u have to always switch gears w somebody everytime u try to debate RothVH to Van Hagar. You KNOW u can't win that argument, regarding album sales, so u compare solo Roth to Van Hagar instead, makes zero sense. In that case, why not compare Van Roth vs solo Hagar? Hagar loses that 1 too, btw.

DirtyMovesUsa is correct, VH 1 & 1984 did in fact outsell the ENTIRE Van Hagar catalog.

    Boo Hoo Pat! lol

  • @Kickstart25 actually it makes perfect sense comparing van hagar to solo dave since i look at it from a eddie vs dave point of view.i think both solo dave and solo sammy suck and ive never said that CVH wasnt the best (it was).the only reason anybody debates the dave vs sammy in the first place is because of the true king of rock and roll...eddie van halen.ppl like you only see as far as the singer and thats missing the bigger picture in my opinion.

  • @Pat9201

Hard to look at it from an Eddie vs Dave angle when someone is trying to compare album sales with Roth VH to Van Hagar! Makes more sense to compare each artists time w VH regarding sales. Are you impressed with Chickenfoot? Honestly, I think that's some of the most bland & generic rock music & songwriting. For such accomplished musicians, CF has been nothing but a disappointment for me.

I agree with you about solo Hagar & Roth though...the majority of it BLOWS!!

  • @Kickstart25 chickenfoot really doesnt do much for me.album sales really arent that important to me to be honest and i find it a poor way to measure quality of music.example..i think fair warning is better than 1984 (love both) and there is plenty of lady gaga and justing beiber type albums to go listen too if album sales are your thing....no thanks..lol

  • @Kickstart25 chickenfoot doesnt really do anything for me.i think album sales are a poor way to determine quality of music anyways...example,i personally like fair warning more than VH1 and 1984.when dave bailed in 1985 we all had 4 choices...like solo dave, like van hagar, like both or like niether...i picked van hagar.im still impressed with what eddie, mike and alex were able to do after their original singer left the band and it was alot more then most bands could have done.

  • @DirtyMovesUsa its always interesting to me that van hagar haters always want to use gay terms like van fagar while dave is the one who always has the gay tendencies.

  • @Pat9201Those "gay tendencies" were his way to attract women, actually. Unlike Fagar that bashes Dave & Ed out of frustration and fag jealousy every-time he gets a chance. He should be grateful to both of them for giving him the opportunity to front one of the best bands in the world. That is more GAY-like behavior. F** Sammy Hagar. Just saying lol.

  • @DirtyMovesUsa thats called denial.dave is at the very least bi sexual and if you cant see it then you choose not to...its there.

  • @Pat9201 It takes one to know one, dude, lol. All I've seen over the years is him being surrounded by hot chicks. And that's fact, no speculation, FACT!

  • @DirtyMovesUsa thats just for show, has he ever actually been linked to a female?he twirls a nice baton (ooops, mic stand) and is a real snappy dresser....if he can cook well then there you have it..lol.all im saying is that if eddie drops his pick and dave is behind him...just let it lay there..lol

  • @Pat9201 Are you kidding? He's been linked to not one female but hundreds. I'm not really defending the guy here, I just think he's had more female asses than a toilette. And hey, if he is actually gay well...don't give a s** either way, hehe. Going bk to original argument, again vh1 & 1984 outsold van fagar catalgue. Fact!

  • @DirtyMovesUsa if you wanna go there then van hagar outsold solo dave...Fact!!!

  • @Pat9201 No shit!

  • @DirtyMovesUsa you went there...lol

  • @Pat9201 Nope, if you read back the original argument was Van Roth record sales vs Van Fagar's.

    Van Roth prevails. Fact!

  • @DirtyMovesUsa actually thats the argument you pick because thats the one you want to look at...all roth fans ignore the fact that eddie out did dave after the split...FACT!!!!

  • wheres the so-called 'feud'?

  • The people have spoken. Roth is better. He belongs in Van Halen. Always.

  • After this fiasco, MTV aired a special about this whole night and they talked to Dave and then Alex and Ed separately. The one where Ed says that night Dave said, "Stop talking about F-ing your hip, man, tonight's about ME." Anyone have this one YouTube?

  • @DrewBludd yeah,.....it's on here somewhere. ummm, i'm trying to remember. ed was wearing glasses.

  • when did Eddie announce his hip replacement surgery? Cuz i heard Roth got pissed over that announcement

  • DLR's problem (one of them) is that he's a true showbiz vaudevillian. It's what made him great, but this is like a sequel to Frank Sinatra bring Dean Martin onto the Jerry Lewis show for a heartwarming reunion, at least in Dave's mind. Problem is that only works if you know who Martin and Lewis are in the first place, or remember these celebrity get-togethers decades later. Did any of them do anything important afterwards? Even Sinatra grew old and feeble and Dave, you're no Frank.

  • Why did Dennis Miller say 3/4 of the world's greatest rock 'n roll band? Where they originally only going to bring out the Van Halen brothers and Michael Anthony, but Dave wanted to surprise the crowd??

  • @DuaLeaD because dennis miller is an idiot who likes to throw out big words and unknown people to sound intelligent, but he doesn't know anything about things that matter.

  • Eddie is a crybaby and has to have things his way. Dave is the spark at the tip of the VH sparkler! Eddie is incredible and the major musical portion of the equation along with Micheal(who is still in time out because of his friendship with Sammy) and Alex bringing up the rear...

  • Eddie is a crybaby and has to hace things his way. Dave is the spark at the tip of the VH sparkler! Eddie is incredible and the major musical portion of the equation along with Micheal(who is still in time out because of his friendship with Sammy) and Alex bringing up the rear...

  • DLR just having fun; and EVH having his monthly moment. The supposed announcement of a reunion was cancelled bc of Eddies hissy-fit.

  • beck is so high :')

  • Diamond Dave-Simply The Best!

  • at around 1:23 i could just hear Eddie saying.. "Oh Hell No..."

  • It brought a tear to my eye to see David back where he belongs.

I think the crowd says it all.

  • Dave's Dad he said used to say "It doesn't matter if you win or loose..all that matters is HOW GOOD YOU LOOKED" Ya gotta love his since of humor...He's always a little wild and crazy....I love that about him...

  • I just finished the last page of "Crazy From The Heat". Out of the ones I have from Vince Neil, Aerosmith, Slash, Steven Adler, The Unofficail AXL Bio W.A.R., Dave's is not filled with detailed stories of debauchery or sex. It is written with style, class, and a well above average intelligence. Changed my view completely of him. Give it a read and see what both Alex and Ed are truly like and what really happened leading up to these awards. Written with too much class to be false. Slash's is #2.

  • I used to be totally behind Dave during the VH feud days but now I can see how his shtick can get old after a while. Still, the band needed his charisma to reach the heights that it did in the MTV era,

  • I wanted Beck to spin around, smash Roth over the head and and go back to mic and saty "Stay! Good doggy!"

  • Roth is not an asshole.. Hes an entertainer!

  • @Alexhoglander you got that right, its really rare to see a interview where dave is just being himself, and i would say that eddie was always jealous of roths popularity, i think he didn't want to accept how much more the people reacted when they showed up with him,

  • Roth is not an asshole.. Hes an entertainer!

  • dave the dick that cant grow up

  • Beck, "Best male...ummm, not sure what that means...". Ummm, take a look behind you dork!

  • Mike Anthony's 1996 mullet = EPIC WIN!

  • Can you imagine trying to contain Thunder and Lightning in a bottle..............well here you go! Ed and Dave - Lightning, Alex and Mike - Thunder , a major force of nature if ever there was one. This band could power the Earth!

  • Can you imagine trying to contain Thunder and Lightning in a bottle..............well here you go!

  • There was a big fight backstage after this with Dave and Eddie.

  • i wish this lineup would have stayed. maybe we would have 3 albums by now lol

  • When i first saw all of them walk out it was awesome. But as i kept watching, you could just tell it wasn't going to work. I was upset to see DLR as the same idiot only older.

  • the same chemistry that made them so great in the first place

  • Jezz Dave.... altought the whole band looks Coked up !

  • nossa o beck me pareceu tão avulso ali. o VH original junto realmente é q chamo mais atenção!!! dalhe VH!!!!!!

  • I think it was an awesome moment...

...thinking about what's going on these days...VAN HALEN is recording with Dave on vocals !

  • Yeah whatever, and who’s the lead singer now! “I can hear those poor boys tappen on the corner outside my window now”

  • David Lee Roth is the Mike Love of Van Halen.

  • Man, Dave sure screwed that up. If he'd have kept his cool there might have been a full-blown original lineup reunion then. The way it looks now they might be 80 years old before that happens. If Ed lives that long.

  • @StillH2O Nope -- they're in the studio now with legendary producer John Shanks.

  • @WonkaVator72 Wrong. Three of the four original members are in the studio, not the original lineup.

  • @StillH2O Dave didn't do any thing wrong. Eddie and Alex were using him for the greatest hits cd and they had no intention of reuniting. I hope you understand that they toured in 2007 and 2008 to sell out crowds with David roth but not with Mike Anthony . That decision has to do with Eddie and not Roth.

  • @ghoula69 I agree that Eddie is a huge part of the problem and is the reason that the original lineup is not currently together. At the time of this video, however, I think there could have been a full reunion if Dave had kept his cool and not embarrassed them on TV, among other things. They were tentatively trying him out, and it didn't go well.

As for now, I agree completely that Ed's desire to have his son in the band is what is keeping a full reunion from happening.

  • @StillH2O Have you read David Lee Roths Book " Eat em Smile" that came out in 2000? Roth has a different take on this. He didn't want to do that awards show because he knew that it was all a sham. Roth actually humilated himself in the studio while doing the two songs because he was really hoping for a reunion . The two brothers were nasty to him and he was putting up with it. By the time of the awards show he had enough of the two.

  • @ghoula69

It came out in 1997. I remember him saying they were dismissing his lyrics as soon as he submitted them. If he couldn't sing then, he wouldn't get better in 2007-8.

  • @MrJoetrix What are you talking about? David Lee Roth can sing. I have the real Van Halen CD's from 1978 to 1984 and his solo stuff and dude I hate to bum you out but Mr. Roth sounded great in 2007 when Van Halen went on tour, I was there.. they were awesome, Eddie sounded and looked great. Now they are in the studio. Diamond Dave has lived the life and if you did read the book you learned so much more about the man in a positive way.

  • @ghoula69

They (The Lying Dutch Brothers) said he couldn't sing in 96, So if they were saying he couldn't sing back then how could he sing up to par for them 11 years later? I was pointing out their lies.

  • @MrJoetrix sorry for misunderstanding you dude, Peace, Mr. Kirk

  • @MrJoetrix I really think that it is more of a case of: Ed and Al needing money, and Ed wanting to play onstage with his son while he still can. VH has not put out an album of new studio material in 13 years...sad. DLR was popular up until about 1988, then his be-bop bullshit, his lame jokes, and his arrogance just turned everyone off. What a toll that guy is. But, I would agree around '96 is when Ed started losing his marbles.

  • @ghoula69 ummm,if he knew it was a sham then why did he go?

  • Dave is such a childish moron.

  • Next tour, why don't you guys make yourselves useful and print up some "Chickenfoot Sucks" and "Wolfgang WHO?" T-shirts, wearing them proudly in masses. Maybe then they'll get the damn point that nothing wets fans' panties faster and gets consumers' wallets out quicker than a FULL BAND REUNION TOUR!

  • Think theyr all high in this clip :D

  • man, Dave is is a fucking douche!!! What a tool that guy is. No wonder they fired his ass. They made good music with him, but as a person, he seems like a turd

  • @resqfireman Your a fucking douche. He quit in 1985 and David Lee Roth is the greatest Frontman and he is smart and has had an incredible life so go fuck yourself you no shit about nothing

  • Talk about bad body language! They wanted nothing to do with Dave! Leaning away, walking away, putting distance between them at all costs!

  • Beck what a dweeb! And where is he today?

Now why can't Jeff Beck win a fucking

    award?

    Jman

  • there was a press conference afterwards that was hilarious too. but again, eddie seemed to be the only one with a problem with Dave speaking on the mic.

  • Edward always had a problem with Roth's popularity and over-the-top stage presence. But look and listen at the reaction of the crowd when Dave walks on stage !!

  • @ajaxrules1975 It soon turned to disappointment when he started doing his idiot routine.

  • @Gerardus1970 Perhaps, but that also is what makes =VH= so great. And that's not only my opinion.

  • @ajaxrules1975 but roth only gets that reaction when he is with van halen...nobody cares about him otherwise.

  • @Pat9201 Trua. That's why he belongs in VH.

  • @ajaxrules1975 I think that its more that Ed, Al and Mike always had a problem with Dave acting like a fucking tool, and his be-bop bullshit. Like it or not, VH had way more #1's with Hagar, and DLR's solo career was done in 1988. He needed VH at this point more than they needed him and once again, he fucked himself.

  • You can almost see Dave's ego filling up the room. What a fucking tool that guy is. He was great as their frontman, but as a person his jokes are fucking lame, his fakeness is pretty apparent, and as a singer, his voice wasnt that good to begin with. He needed this reunion with the VH boys more than they needed him. HIs career was WAY over here. Same thing when he went on tour with Hagar. He needed that, and he still acted like a total dick. Fuck "Diamond Douche Dave"

  • @resqfireman In my opinion VH with Roth was at it's best. But i cannot deny VH with Hagar gave VH credibility. Okay you say VH with Hagar had more no1 hits but the best sold VH albums were with Roth, the first album and 1984, more than 10 million each in the US alone. 1984 wasn't no1 because of Thriller by MJ. VH with Roth was epic. VH with Hagar was very good.

I bet the audience in this video wouldn't be as psyched if they walked on stage with Hagar.

Nevertheless, i like VH music anyways.

  • you have the show complete?? i wanna buy you

  • @daniloxw ....this is the complete reunion segment from the awards show. Nothing else was broadcast with VH that night!

  • @EddieVHRocks5150 You're acually wrong. I seen this show live back in september '96. They interviewed the band after the show. Funny though, in the interview dave and eddie were standing apart from each other with mike and alex in the middle (they did feud with each other after this video aired). I remember dave was wearing a white hat and did'nt say too much!

  • @daniloxw You can buy me if you want?

  • Oh Dave...

  • thanks for uploading this!! :D:D!!
