Has anyone noticed how different her style seems in this cd from her other 2? Maybe not even in this song as much, but in new torch and a few others...wow. AND then I discovered Fesit in Placebo--!!!
Does anyone know why they aren't making Monarch anymore? I mean, if Feist wanted to keep selling it, she could, you know? At least I think so. It's just mind boggling to me, ahaha
In a Rolling Stone article she said that Monarch is like an 'awkward high school photo she doesn't want anyone to look at' so that's why it won't be in print anytime soon. I personally love it.
You can try on ebay, it comes up occasionally. Just be prepared to pony up. I myself came close to, $180 which was low. I don't think it's right for those who are true fans but can't afford that money. But if you're willing, again check ebay but also amazon. You will absolutely love it I think. "A bit hard" is an understatement. I would say more like really hard if not close to impossible.
Ugh. I wish i could get my hands on this whole album. She is so amazing, but it is almost impossible to find this unless you want to pay big bucks. PLEASE REPRINT!
I can't get over this. It's like I'm looking at a different person. I wish there was a video for monarch, that's one of my favorite songs in the entire universe.
wow how diferent! i think she had the same voice but just didnt know the way to flucuate the way she does now. but i still love this song of hers. you know she still has and uses that same guitar in all her performances. it is pretty cool. she is like a total role model.
I bought Monarch at her Pyramid Cabaret (Winnipeg) show back in 2000(?). I fell in love with this song right away and then added it to a mixed tape (that had just enough space left over) of classic lullabies for my baby daughter to fall asleep to. If you enjoy Feist's new stuff you should really add Monarch to your collection.

it's not too hard to find. i think this is one of the best song's on the album. she uses a lot more strings on monarch. i still think let it die is her best.
I would not recognise her at all. Even her voice is different! She has definitely grown, both musically and vocally! I prefer the Feist of Mushaboom. But this is cute!

Hi Leslie,
I'm Mike. I'm your muse. Yeah, yeah, I know, Mike the muse. I get that a lot.
Anywho, I have been assigned to you and I want to do a good job!
I can do lots of things besides helping you finish lyrics or come up with a new toon.
My first bit of advise is for you to get a in touch with the sound people associated with the spiderman 3 movie and work with them. They will help you a lot.
songs like "shiny happy people" were out during this time period too, keep in mind. still, how many could pull off a song like 'its cool to love your family', other than how feist did here?
Aww Feist..can you believe she was only like twenty-three in this vid? She reminds me a bit of Alanis Morissette but prettier. And I do believe her music has gotten way better since then.
I know Leslie herself doesn't agree, but I like Monarch a lot more than her last two albums. Too much "chill-out" jazzy material on Let It Die and The Reminder (I especially don't like Gonzales' influence). But I'm still glad she's achieved success. I just wish she'd put back some more of the pop/rock influences from Monarch because she was just so good at it. And bring back Dave Szigeti's string arrangements!
She looks great in this. For the past year someone seems to have been 'styling' her to look like the massively overrated Patti Smith - which is a shame.
oh and if you really want this record that bad just do a site search on google/mediafire. Somebody has it

God she is fucking beautiful...almost as beautiful as her voice

When she sings "yeah-yeah" at 3:37 I just melt - this song makes me feel great every time I listen to it

She is more Twee/Pop compromising than anything else... so I agree with WTF do Placebo have to do with this.

@LeDoppelganger She was in a band called Placebo in the 90's. Not the Placebo you are thinking of though. :)
