@robertgift yah I was just in China I must agree with you especilly those airhorns on the steam and the older horns on the old China rail diesels however China Rail has some new power that appears to be from GE and they all have American horns on them like the new GEVOs here a very pleasing sounding 5 chime but those damn airhorns on that Chineese steam is Shit I rode in a few cabs OUCH he blew the whistle a few times but mostly the airhorn

I've heard plenty of them. From a 2-bell horn I can't identify (I have a video), to a K5-LA with the fourth bell tuned down for an unusual and pretty sound. I've also heard a low 2-bell horn several times that is so quiet it shouldn't even be in service.

the simple solution is mount the horns in front of the direction of the most common trailing exhaust, and have protecting them with socks, or something over the horn to stop shit getting in them.
