He didn't know how to construct a chord progression, either. He came up with mostly everything by ear, which is why there's times when he resolves on a note that's out of key and sounds bad, or there's a mess of random notes with no structure whatsoever.

His solos just aren't anything amazing. Actually, a lot of the stuff he plays is out of key. The only really amazing solo of his is from "The Sleep". Cemetery Gates is alright. Floods is alright. But you have to think about how many songs are in their library were the solo is unstructured gibberish.

Dimebag and Pantera pioneered the next step in heavy metal, if you listen to that song it sounds just as heavy and relevant, and even more than metal today. Besides that, Dime is an amazing player, you can listen to any solo, but their early album "Power Metal" shows how diverse his playing can be.
