NICE TUTORIAL, I just want to ask: I have cubase 5.1.1 on my Mac, its included in the zoom h4n i bought last. I just noticed that ,it doensnt have variaudio ,some plug ins are missing like desser, pitch correction. How can i complete it? i tried to use some free download from BRAINWORX but it seems not to be compatible.it crashes whenever i use it. And i cant export on an MP3 format.
Hi, can this work or do you know of a tool which will take out the vocals all together? also on the reverse i want acapella as well as De-vocalising thks, paul "i subscribed btw :))"
hey man im a rookie at this but i was just wondering if you can explain to me how you put all those things on your equalizers. like the auto tuner and things like that?
i have just downloaded cubase 5 and thanks, i am new to this mounting stuff and would like to know what would happen if i unmounted cubase 5 and mounted assassins creed would cubase stop working? if so is there anyway i can get around this so i can use both without mounting and unmounting? thanks............
hey my man wut up. nice tutorial btw. im currently using cubase le4 for all my voice recording purposes.i havent gotten in to using the program for instruments yet. im self taught in everything so i have no idea what alot of that stuff means, i just know how to use it when its in front of me lol. but i have a song that i had my girlfriend sing. on my page its called picture perfect. i would love if u could take a listen and give me tips and feedback on what i could do better. thanx
@BigMoneyMoveMaker Hey man, heard the track. Sounds great! id mess around a little bit with the second voices, ajust the highs and cut some lows, put a bit more of compression.
@mchomicidah thanx my G. im starting to work with more RnB ppl now so every tip helps alot. Ima def go back and work on it here and there. thanx again. easy.
Hey,i see u have good knowledgein this software.Help.I was trying to record vocals in Cubase5,but the software won't simply let me do this..i got my MXL v67 connected to the computer through an ART Sound preamp, everytime i hit Rec i see the track building up,recording, but there is no spectral move, the line is straight, and i have no sound,i can hear the mic,but no sound in recording.I tried Nuendo 3,it works, but i can only hear it in the left speaker, there's no activity on the right!HELP Please
@katalinribak08 You need to make sure your audio track is a mono track, if you try recording a single input channel on a stereo track it will only come out as a single output, left or right (respectively.) On your mono audio track, be sure you have the right input selected by looking to the left of your selected audio track and clicking 'Input 1' or 'left channel'
@katalinribak08 are you making sure that you have the track on record ....make sure its highlighted red the start your recording process. hope that helped
hey i dont know what this has to do with anything but i have a problem, everytime i use my behringer c1u microphone in cubase 5 and nuendo i always hear this wierd static noise what should i do , PLEASE ANSWER!
@donflare It might help to go to increase your buffer size, as your computer is trying to process requests that it cannot keep up with. In Cubase, go to devices -> device setup -> VST audio system and select your appropriate ASIO driver. If you don't have an audio interface, use generic ASIO driver. Then highlight and select the 'Generic Low Latency ASIO Driver' below VST Audio System, and hit control panel. The more you increase it, the more latency you will have which can be troublesome.
Hey bro thanx for the tutorial really appreciate that some people are helping other. Your video is quite impressive looks like you have got alot of knowledge about Cubase 5. Bro i require a little help from you if you can. i am having trouble with recording i dont know if you can help or not but still i thought of showing you what it is. My recording doesn't sound like yours i mean if you go to my channel i have post my song and you'll see what i am talking about.
@NickShay123 You're using your microphone in a large space. The setup you have looks like it attempts to isolate background noise with the foam, but the foam can only do so much. Your track is nicely arranged but the vocals are too loud and the effects are too strong. Subtly is the key when you apply effects remember, even if it doesn't make an immediate audible difference, it still glues certain aspects of the mix together and when you add too much, it washes them out.
hi, TNX for the tutorial, it helps alot, but i have a ? n thought u'd be the best person to ask from...i made an audio of my whole song then opened it as a new project with the vocals audio file...this kinda put the vocal way in front n in ur face, though to ask from someone expert, do people do this process? is it normal in a world of expert producers or it's just false ?!!!
@3906812 If its more practical under the limitations, then its a perfectly acceptable way of simplifying things. I would record vocals within the actual project itself personally, that way I can adjust other things within the mix after Ive added vocals if they don't mix well. Producers will do this in the real world if conditions call for it, but often times it's easier to do it within the project. If the vocals don't fit well, then its probably something to do with how you've mixed it.
I actually haven't mixed it yet, just moved onto it cuz the track's finally done...just played around a little with ideas on vocals b4 this last step, Gr8 then...it sounds more pleasant to my ears too when it's kinda done within the track, i feel it blends in better, but i just have to ask ?s from more experienced to always get an idea on the whole picture n it makes me feel more comfortable approaching new stuff lol...TNX a lot again bro, keep the engine running, CYA around
don't know, if you already now, but: the eq in the effects window (where you have your low cut) is processed AFTER all the inserts (except i7 and i8). so it's better to cut frequencies before making them louder with comp, maximizer, ... generally speaking. just a tipp - i learned a lot by watching your videos, thanks!
my friend your tutorial is very good but please if you could put the names of each track that you used for example what is the name of the compressor to use? not distinguish anything at first sight and so succession the names of each instrument are very blurry put you can not follow a clear sequence, in the future could fix that problem? I do not know if you understand what I mean but if you understood this better help understand what you say is my humble humble opinion God bless you.
@SANC2775 Yeah man, I'm aware of what you're saying. I'll look out for that next time. I have a bad habit of assuming people know what they're looking at with first glance.
I prefer not to use gate at all with vocals, Its a bit too harsh on those breathy pull-offs even on a light setting. I just go back and cut off unwanted background hiss and noise with the cutting tool. but that's just me
@TheSachi143 As a side note in response to the plethora of requests asking for free software; no. Don't even bother asking as your comments and personal messages will be flagged as spam and reported. Thank you.
hi thanks for postig this video, i have a question, do you think that pitch-correcting-vario audio which cubase 5 has also good like autotuner of anteras?
@gigihitman I've used Antares for a while and I prefer it over Vari-audio for many reasons pertaining to the interface and the amount of parameters you are able to adjust. Also, if you don't have an ear for things you will not notice any audible difference between Antares and Cubase's pitch correction, but there is- and I'm just so much more inclined towards Antares software.
hey @dangerale can u do a tutorial with how mastering a stereo voice? transforming the mono to stereo? u know like....inna - wow for example... please and thanks for this tutorial:X amazing
@KrixPrix Try putting a limiter on the master channel (stereo out) of the mix, then what I do is max out the input to give it a really 'pumped up' sound, you're probably going to be peaking a lot though so just experiment with it :)
You should change the title to "Mixing" vocals, vocals are never Mastered. Mastering comes at the very last stage of production and that term is being used too loosely these days causing a great deal of confusion for newer recording enthusiasts.
WATS GUD DANGERALE, JUS WANTED ToO KNOW WEN U FINISH YOUR PROJECT N DAT HOW DO YOU TURN IT INTO LIKE R MP3 OR WAV TRACK OR LIKE R MIX DOWN ToO ONE WHOLE TRACK???
@dangerale Just wondering...why you dont use 'vari audio' thts already bundled with cubase 5 and above instead ov autotune?..in my own experience its a lot easier to use, less cpu usage, and sounds very good, just thought id mention it ;)
@tushar223 If you right click on the pane just left of the timeline/arranger, you will find an option under the name of 'FX Channel Track'- It's essentially the same deal as a 'bus track,' that's just what I call it. To route signal from audio tracks to it, make sure you enable a send just below the insert panel. I'm planning on creating a tutorial on how to do this specifically because I've been asked this a lot. I should have explained it in this.
Hey man I found this very helpful and I had a mess up before I saved the file and it reset the presets when I opened it. Are you able to save the preset for the vocal mastering and email it to me? It should only take 1 sec to save and send please. If not it's kool. Thanks
@jacorock08 Hey bro. I've been kinda busy lately with other projects but once I get someone in the studio to do a track I'll definitely upload. Lately things have been going sour with my equipment so that's why I've not been at it with these tutorials for the most part but expect some soon! You're not the first person to ask, so no worries.
@King21973 Because it doesn't make sense to gate it after you compress it; it should be the other way around. Most consoles will have their compressors post-eq but pre-fader. We want to squash the dynamics after it hits the gate, instead of the other way around- being that the SNR is lower if the compressor was before the gate which isn't convenient. It wouldn't make sense for a guitarist to configure his effects so that the gate is post-overdrive/distortion if you know what I mean.
thanks for your reply. I just picked up cubase 6 artist because I couldn't buy cubase 5.5 so I'm just learning the ropes. I integrated some of your tips on a recording of Knockin' on Heaven's Door. It's on my page. Would be great if you could give it a listen and tell me what you think. be kind my voice sucks!
@JCMcConnach No such a thing as a stupid question. A bus track / group track / auxiliary track is a channel that allows you to route different tracks to it. There are two main different applications in which you can use a bus. you can use it as a send effect, which includes an effect like reverb at 100% wet and any channel sending to this bus will have a mix of reverb. Or a group bus, which allows you to route the signal from a channel or channels to one main source.
Hey, have you guys seen the new Windows 7 equipped StudioBLADE keyboard production center? It's perfect for running all of your Windows compatible software and plugins! Check out the videos on our channel by clicking the link below!
@DJAelxs Due to the situation. The only Mic I had at the time was a Shure SM58. Great for live, crap for studio work. As you can see, I had to EQ the SHIT out of it to get that sound. It depends on how much you're willing to spend, but I would say that for the best bang for buck would have to be the RODE NT1-A.
@krazyeknine57 The stock pitch corrector that comes with Cubase is not as extensive and flexible as Antares. I'm experienced with both but I still believe Antares is far better.
@YoungRealboy Why are you acting like an idiot? He's trying to explain to us how to get better in Cubase. If you don't like it, just press dislike and watch another video..Jerk
Hey thanks for the video! quick question i just started using cubase and was just wondering how i can make all my verses volume even. I used to use cool edit and it was easy to do there by just amplifying it. thanks
@jprox0204 Hey jprox. If you select a recorded track, you may notice a little blue 'handle' in the middle. If you move this handle up and down it changes the gain of the track- It's very useful. In addition, if you're looking to normalize your tracks you can select a/or multiple tracks by using CTRL, go to audio > process > normalize, use the selected settings (0.0db) and hit process. This will normalize the volume for each track. Hope that helps! Happy recording!
@dangerale hey thanks for the quick reply. So allright i know how to maximize the volume. Is there a way to monitor the real volume of the track? it seems like the mixer doesnt update at all. It looks like it only shows the highest volume in the mixer. will i need a plug in for this so i can even out all my verses to the same level.
@jprox0204 I'm not quite sure what the question is, but if you want to monitor the volume of the input, open the mixer (f3) and you will see to the far left an input level, this remains unchanged no matter the effects you might add to a track.
@dangerale hey nice! seriously thanks for the quick reply. Well what im trying to ask is what is the easiest way to even out all my verses. There is no way you can make 2 vocal takes with the same volume so i was wondering how i could monitor each vocal and adjust their volumes accordingly. I know compression has something to do with it but not entirely! thanks again

Would be great if you could give it a listen and tell me what you think. be kind my voice sucks!

this might seem like a stupid question but what is a "bus", when you use all the effects how taxing is it on your computer?
thanks enjoyed the vid
JCMcConnach 1 year ago
@JCMcConnach No such a thing as a stupid question. A bus track / group track / auxiliary track is a channel that allows you to route different tracks to it. There are two main different applications in which you can use a bus. you can use it as a send effect, which includes an effect like reverb at 100% wet and any channel sending to this bus will have a mix of reverb. Or a group bus, which allows you to route the signal from a channel or channels to one main source.

How do You Make A vocal Buss ?
narutonerd4life 1 year ago
What microphone did you use to record the vocals? Or which one would you recommend?
DJAelxs 1 year ago
@DJAelxs Due to the situation. The only Mic I had at the time was a Shure SM58. Great for live, crap for studio work. As you can see, I had to EQ the SHIT out of it to get that sound. It depends on how much you're willing to spend, but I would say that for the best bang for buck would have to be the RODE NT1-A.

cubase 5 has variaudio pitch correction why are you using antares?
krazyeknine57 1 year ago
@krazyeknine57 The stock pitch corrector that comes with Cubase is not as extensive and flexible as Antares. I'm experienced with both but I still believe Antares is far better.

3troit 1 year ago
Hey thanks for the video! quick question i just started using cubase and was just wondering how i can make all my verses volume even. I used to use cool edit and it was easy to do there by just amplifying it. thanks
jprox0204 1 year ago
@jprox0204 Hey jprox. If you select a recorded track, you may notice a little blue 'handle' in the middle. If you move this handle up and down it changes the gain of the track- It's very useful. In addition, if you're looking to normalize your tracks you can select a/or multiple tracks by using CTRL, go to audio > process > normalize, use the selected settings (0.0db) and hit process. This will normalize the volume for each track. Hope that helps! Happy recording!
dangerale 1 year ago
@dangerale hey thanks for the quick reply. So allright i know how to maximize the volume. Is there a way to monitor the real volume of the track? it seems like the mixer doesnt update at all. It looks like it only shows the highest volume in the mixer. will i need a plug in for this so i can even out all my verses to the same level.
jprox0204 1 year ago
@jprox0204 I'm not quite sure what the question is, but if you want to monitor the volume of the input, open the mixer (f3) and you will see to the far left an input level, this remains unchanged no matter the effects you might add to a track.
dangerale 1 year ago
@dangerale hey nice! seriously thanks for the quick reply. Well what im trying to ask is what is the easiest way to even out all my verses. There is no way you can make 2 vocal takes with the same volume so i was wondering how i could monitor each vocal and adjust their volumes accordingly. I know compression has something to do with it but not entirely! thanks again
