I do like the Cummins a lot too... I drive a 97 T/C 2000 FE and an '08 All-American FE Handybus, both with Cummins power. The '97 is still quite fast for a 12-year-old bus, and the All-American is a dream to drive...
My school district has 2000-2004ish All American RE busses, and I wasn't sure which of the two engines it was, but now I'm sure its CAT because it sounds the same as this bus. They are much faster than the newer parts of the fleet that we are getting in (2007 and 2008 Bluebird Vision's, which seem slower, and are slower).
my old bus, 327, sounded just like that. it was a 2000 Thomas SAF-T Liner EF. plus, it was the fastest bus in the fleet. my little brother rides it now.
It really bothers me that they don't have the Cummins ISC engine available for the All Am. FE, only for the RE design. I don't really understand why they can't.
How often do you see international chassis with the t444e or VT365 engines? Opinions on how they sound? I am partial to the t444e engines myself. The "FreightShaker" chassis with the caterpillar C7s?, the turbo just SCREAMS on those.
My school had a '96 International/Thomas shorty with the T444E. Hills were no problem for that bus. sounds like the little POS Transtek/Ford Econoline E450 my school district just gut their hands on...
The E450 has i guess the Ford PowerStroke engine, which is basically a T444E with less crap on the top. sounds similar. only thing missing is the Allison whine and the soft suspension. riding that damn transtek you can feel EVERY and ALL bumps in the road... oddly though the seats are mad comfy.
i think i just watched a video of a bus....

My bus is a 1992 bluebird and recently broke down. how long does a 16 year old engine last
rjiskool0 4 years ago
Pretty long. We had 18 year old engines that were running perfectly 2 years ago.

caterpillar engine?

Nope Cummins ISB engine.
AllAmericanFE 5 years ago
oh.
i love hearing that engine though--
JZX100Chaser 5 years ago
I was wrong. I got to look at the engine yesterday and in fact it is a Caterpillar engine not a cummins as I was told it was.
AllAmericanFE 5 years ago
That is probably the easiest mistake to make. This sounds nothing like a Cummins ISB.
