@BurrellRegan That been said, It is true, like you have said, that the Japanese R is a rolling R, still plenty of Japanese words have a very distinct R pronaunciation. Arigato, Samurai, Taberu, Karada, Karate etc.
@BurrellRegan they'll switch between the R's and the L's...of couse it doesnt always happan. It also dependes on the placing of the letter within the word. You can hear Watanabe-san at 4:28 doing this with the word 'Character' which he prounces as 'Chalacter', twice...
This is also the reason why broken english spoken by Chinese, Koreans or Japanese people is often called 'Engrish' - google it, there is an entire web site devoted to this...
@BurrellRegan I must admit, this is the first time I hear this claim. As I have never stumbled into the word Homura in a conversation before, I'll have to take your word on it...at leat untill I'll see my Japanese teacher and ask her about this.
I do have to express a few doubts though. Japanese is a part of a langauge family of it's own, however, like in Chinese and Korean there is not much defrence between R and L. This is way when you hear japanese people speak english, for example,
@calenigwen Yeah, I actually just realized that and had to come to make up my mistake. The thing was that I remembered my friend telling me there's no R in japanese, and I just realized that there's an R in the only japanese word I know, arigato : D

@D94ab Ohh that's not the only word you know, I'm sure you also know - sayonara and samurai :)
anyway, the japanese language doesn't have L.
Either way, I have to agree with your first comment, Ken Watanabe's accent is awesome
