Hi forcefollow, thnx for your instructional vids. I have a new custom built billiards table, maybe 3 weeks old. Ive seen some videos where some would use this chalk-off product, im from the Philippines, ironically I dont see any speciality cleaning products for tables. Any thing I can use at home to get rid of the chalk spots that you talk about here, apart from damp cloths/brush? Cheers.
@faztclix Chalkoff is a name brand that comes to mind. You can order a spray that is basically the same as dry cleaning spray which you can pick up from any billiard supplier.
From day one, I have used a canister vacuum with upholstry attachment - but I am trying to find a better attachment. Mine does not have brush bristles except for a small thin strip. I hate dragging the hard plastic over the table. Oddly, finding such a brush is not the easiest thing... what do you recommend?
I use a Kenmore Progressive vac with the drapery attachment it does a good job. Pulling the attachment slowly with no downward pressure. Use a normal pool table brush for quick touch up. Once in a while i will use electric leaf blower to really blast the caulk dust out. I have used Woollite spray carpet cleaner after a beer spill with no adverse affects. Good felt is tough. Bad felt would never hold up to these cleaning methods. So be careful with your table.
Anyway, I didn't believe it would work, but I'm now swearing by chemical cleaning the felt. Either "imperial felt cleaner", or David Hodges' "quick clean", followed by a wipe with some micro fiber cloth. Most billiard stores will have some spray on product, in case you don't want to put these names in your comments.
Question why the the pool company recommended not getting Simonis Cloth. Same thing happened to my dad when he got new cloth for his table. The pool company didn't want him to get the more expensive cloth. Could this just be because they make a greater profit on the cheaper stuff.
Good felt is more difficult to install correctly. Good felt takes many more staple, much more time and less forgiving. I have watched installer setup a table in one hour, in a pool hall. The felt was held in place with glue and one staple on each side of the pockets. good felt will need hundreds of staples to hold it tight.

does it matter what kind of cloth you have when you use the rag or the vacume.
nikeisgolf 2 years ago
when using a vac, how strong is too strong? also, should you gently glide the brush over the cloth or should you use a little force and dig in?

If the vac is pulling the cloth up its too strong. How hard you bare down depends on how stiff the bristles are.

Your absolutely right. Caution should be used. Cheap cloth will not hold up. Even with the good cloth don't use a super sucking vacuum.

Good to see you pulling out your snooker cue!

you just got new cloth less than a year ago... lol

That wasn't new cloth. It came with the table which was used and I did not like the gold.
