milkman conspiracy, you are right, the Tea Party demonstrated. But they didn't illegally occupy a government building, they didn't do 3-5 million dollars worth of damage anyplace they rallied, they didn't send death threats to the opposite side, they didn't picket the homes of the opposition. The Reps. didn't march out of Washington when Obama rammed through an agenda. Nor did they leave WI when Doyle passed a 1.3 billion $ budget adjustment in 2 days from introduction to his signing.
I remember when we had great teachers until the unions ruined the industry with whiny fat lazy bitches that couldn't teach a fly to.....fly. @GeorgeBonez Let's see, you've had two careers and they were both in the public sector? Hmm. Why not the private sector? Will you be collecting a pension financed by the taxpayer?
@azul8811 Well I ran my own company for 12 years in between these gigs but I was taxed out of business. I was extremely successful but to honest on my taxes so it was no longer enough to support my family. Gee wonder why my taxes were so high? U should see my town now. Businesses are going under right and left but all of our gov buildings have beautiful green lawns and new expensive art exhibits out front. Damn shame because there are too many people like you giving them enough supporttocontinue
@GeorgeBonez George..You comment that, "there are too many people like you..." Sorry, but have we met? How do you know what I think? Basically, I've just asked a couple of questions here. You stated that you've twice been employed by a public agency. So, will you be receiving a pension financed by the taxpayers? Simple question. You think that when a cop or a fireman belongs to a union they become "fat lazy bitches" and don't their job properly? That's what you imply below. Kindly elaborate.
Solidarity from Illinois. To the rest of the states, your senators are free to flee here for the sake of justice any day of the week. Go Wisconsin and go fab 14!
@MilkmanConspiracy for the sake of justice, you say? The election in 2010 reflects the will of the majority of WI people. The 14 plus the angry crowds "shut up and sit in the back of the bus" like Obama and his minions told the Republicans and Conservatives to do. Obama's words were "we won." Well, my words are "We Won, So Live With It."
@supergranny14 Yeah, that wasn't the Republicans' philosophy in between 2009 and 2010, huh? Nor the Teapartiers'. They got to bitch, now it's our turn. So live with it.
Hooray! Rob the taxpayers and strong arm them. Public Unions are allowed to strike but taxpayers are not allowed to withold taxes. Good for the Unions workers for standing up for their beliefs, but it's time for the tax payers to stop paying taxes if they have had enough with paying for the public sector.
The fact that Walker won't take the money just proves this is about him schilling for corporate interests. State workers will give him every dime he's asking for as long as he leaves the unions alone. And still he says 'NO'. What a douche.
As a Milwaukee firefighter, Walker can suck a fat one! Hope he gets kicked out of office by the end of the year! I never voted for him and I would like to know who did?
Yay go Wisconsin!!! They are willing to take pay cuts, not willing to give up bargaining rights! Stay strong, wish I could be there with you. We have UNIONS to thank for our working conditions now! 5 day, 40 hour weeks are because of them so anyone against this fight must want to go back to basically being serfs. Look up your facts before spewing ignorant speech. It's right there at the Smithsonian in DC.
So proud to live in Wisconsin. So proud of everyone who is standing up for what is right against Governor Emperor. We ALL need to stand together. Today it's the unions, tomorrow, he comes after the rest of us.
Unions built this country, but they've also become one of the many reasons we can't compete. Regardless of what is deserved we live in a place where markets dictate price and therefore costs have to be in line (ie: auto industry). Toyota creates American jobs for non-UAW workers and they have been thriving. Big 3 automakers struggle to reign in costs. Unions are history, but they got us to where we are good and some bad. The world isn't perfect, but without unions we would still have workers ri
The unions have brought a lot of good things to this country. But most people believe they are over payed. Maybe the rest of us are just underpaid. make it fare Unions for everyone. We can just print more money right?
@DillonDee1 Not only that but the one man that is trying to break the Teachers' Union in Wisconsin is a COLLEGE DROPOUT. The only good job he can get without a degree is leeching off the taxpayers as a public employee. What a scumbag Walker is!!!
@emediex Since when does education level have anything to do with politics? John Major dropped out of high school and was the prime minister of Great Britain, and did a pretty decent job of it. Idiot.
This fight is not about money or benefits - it's about having a voice. Before this all started, the unions told the governor that they were willing to concede $100M in benefits, but he wouldn't even meet with them. For years, he's been trying to bust unions. As a Milwaukee County Board member, he even moved to abolish the Board. Walker basically believes that all government should be privatized.
I've already boycotted all products from Wisconsin, including their CHEESE and Dairy products until this GOP GOVERNOR, stops his union busting tactics to take away collective bargaining as it's not a financial matter as the workers have already AGREED to take the cuts!
He exempted the police and fire unions from cuts and you have tio ask WHY?
It's a PLANNED attack on TEACHERS, like the POL POT regime! Get rid of the intellectuals FIRST.
But discriminate against unemployed, and beyond belief. They have the power to put millions of Americans back to work, but are not doing so, in hopes a Republican President sits in the Whitehouse that way they dont have to spend millions on lobbying because they have a key player in the whitehouse.
Fight for your life Wisconsin, just like the Corporate and Special Interests pay millions of dollars a year to send representatives to congress to bend laws in their favor, we as ordinary Americans must stand side by side. Its not about what the media has told you its about, its about fighting for our children's future! Soon there will be literally rich and poor in America! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MIDDLE CLASS? ITS EVAPORATED!
Free pension? Not true. Workers pay into the pension fund just like others pay into social security. It's not free to the workers-- it's their retirement savings.
@336kgf Individual voters make up the unions. American people make up the unions. Human beings make up the government ... of, by, and for the American people. That is how it is supposed to work ... Created equal with certain inalienable rights! America can really be cool if we just walk our talk ... and participate!
Comparing Walker to Hitler is laughable. Walker wants to save the taxpayers from the aggravation of Wisconsin being a financial Titanic. He is also allowing the protestors to have their say. Hitler was a maniacal dictator who wanted no individual rights for anyone unless you were a "pure Aryan", wanted strict gun control, and was a vegetarian. That's not conservative to me. Nice try.

It's amazing that the Hypocrite Dummycraps pointed the finger at Palin and Republicans for the Shootings in AZ, and now these same screwed up dummycraps are the ones holding up Hitler signs because they been caught stealing too much money from the public. It all just shows how dumb and bad the left is, and they're making themselves look 10x worse with these pathetic protests. They will all wish they hadn't done this crap that will set them back many decades as these things always backfire.
First they came for the teachers ... are the fire fighters next?
The teachers will agree to contributing more towards their benefits, but there is no reason for this union busting. If Herr Governor is successful with this who's next?
@njreo ... the teaches haven't contributed anything towards their benefits, which is truly outrageous!
The measure also would prohibit most unionized public employees, except local police and fire fighters and the State Patrol, from bargaining on issues besides wages. Wage hikes could be negotiated only if they don't exceed the consumer price index.
First the came for the teachers ... are the fire fighters next?

@njreo The state employees of Wi enjoy free healthcare and a free pension. All Walker is asking for is a small contribution, and the contributions in the bill are still lower than anything in the private sector. WI is going broke. Simple as that.
@336kgf They deserve every benefit they've been receiving all these years. Think about remove police, teachers, librarians, and firefighters, and we"ll see how long your state survives. When you dont have enough money to pay your bills at the end of the month, dont you prioritize? You reduce or eliminate shit you dont need, Im sorry but teachers, police, librarians and firefighters would not be at the top of MY LIST!
And were it not for unions, the state would be able to afford to employ MORE teachers, MORE police, MORE librarians, and MORE firefighters. What a concept!
@Buxterminator If it weren't for unions, we would again have 80 hour work weeks, at a $1 a day. We would risk getting killed in unsafe conditions, our children would have to work alongside us, and when the day was done, we'd get to go to our tenement apartment. And when we got old, we'd go live in a poor house.
You retardlicans REALLY need to learn some American history.
I'm familiar with American history, and the lack of civil discourse will get you nowhere here. I'm familiar with the fact that we have a minimum wage, we have workplace safety requirements that are in place at every workplace in the country. You work after submitting interest in a given position to an employer, and nowhere in that equation does the government force you to work under the parameters you've just suggested. Unions were right in the Industrial Age. The danger is gone.
@336kgf none of that is correct. not a single word. they do not have free healthcare or pension. They contribute 6% to healthcare and pension. Walker is not asking for a small contribution--he wants to double what they kick in, to 12%. That amounts to a pay cut of roughly $1,200 a month for a teacher. You cannot raise a family on that. Wisconsin is going broke but because your governor just gave away 140M in tax breaks to corporations. Get your facts straight, nimrod.
people kill me. first they say, "we agree we gotta cut tyhe budget," but in the same breath they say, "Don't cut my stuff!" You can't cut spending by cutting nothing. #ugly truth
Take back from the crazed Republicans, Tea Partiers and cowering Democrats! Let the People have their say, instead of letting large Companies run the Union (USA)
How does Leonard Cohen Say that? Oh yeah, "I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right . . . . But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay, I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet: Democracy is coming to the U.S.A."
Walker voted to keep the tax cuts for the rich. Now that's rich isn't it. This man and the other Tea Party Gov. are trying to bust unions.
The thing is that the Dems are willing to give him all the money cuts they want. But Walker won't rellent. I'm with you Wisconsin. Fight your hearts out to keep collective bargaining
@rhythm7a I hope so too. You have got corporations sitting on millions, some billions of dollars of CASH! To not hire and help as many Americans as possible is just evil! Money truly is the root of all evil. Why are businesses recycling people who are already working?
I spent the afternoon at a meeting with union members and community members that filled an entire high school auditorium. I am a substitute teacher, and I will fill in as many days as I can to allow our teachers to make it to Madison to protest. Once we give up our rights, we will have a heck of a time getting them back!
I am a substitute teacher who spent the afternoon at a meeting with union members and community members that filled an entire high school auditorium. I will cover as many jobs as I have to in order to free up our teachers to make it to Madison to protest. Once we lose our rights, we can never get them back.
I've never belonged to a union but this is a fight worth fighting. These are the people who teach our kids, keep us safe, repair our roads -- they're nurses and caregivers -- and they're being treated like they have no right to the things they've worked for. God bless those firefighters for standing with their fellow state employees. I wonder if their governor will dare punish them by stripping them of their rights too.
Awesome! Middle class workers of America need to stand together and send a strong message that they won't let politicians that are bought and paid for by corporate fat-cats and the rich-elite push them around. Amazing that Walker was able to find hundreds of millions in his budget to give even more tax breaks to corporations, yet decides he needs to crush the unions (i.e. middle class working families). Kudos to the Wisconsin firefighters for doing the right thing.
What isn't being reported is that Scott Walker intentionally broke Wisconsin's bank just to have an excuse to break the unions. Walker was given a surplus by his Democratic predecessor, but he gave it all away to the super-wealthy inside a month of taking office.
I was there! It was beautiful. The firefighters walked through twice, and it took probably 5-7 minutes for them all to get through each time. Everyone was screaming just as loud for 10-14 minutes straight. And the one thing this video fails to capture is the huge smiles on the faces of both the firefighters and the protestors. It was an absolutely amazing experience.
@HoffmaniaDotCom Nicely put! Probably one of the most powerful videos I've seen on youtube. These guys are exempt from the bill and do this anyway. They know who'll be next.
Jessica, I used to work in TV news, and just wanted to say that you've helped revive my hope in that business. You're doing a great job of being fair, and you're really working hard. It's greatly appreciated. Now just convince your boss that you need a camera person with you instead of having to shoot things yourself! Thank you.
This brings shivers to everyone. Thank you sooo much for posting it. I'm sharing it on Facebook and shared it with some PR groups. What a beautiful moment.

And I'm neither left or right . . . . But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay, I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet: Democracy is coming to the U.S.A."
bdevorewedding 1 year ago 2
Walker voted to keep the tax cuts for the rich. Now that's rich isn't it. This man and the other Tea Party Gov. are trying to bust unions.
The thing is that the Dems are willing to give him all the money cuts they want. But Walker won't rellent. I'm with you Wisconsin. Fight your hearts out to keep collective bargaining

I can only hope this sparks the revolution this country needs against the tyranny of corporate oligarchy which is rapidly taking over our government.
rhythm7a 1 year ago 4

@alymackenziegreen said, "Once we lose our rights, we can never get them back."
This cannot be repeated enough.

JamesAHall 1 year ago 4

There is nothing to be said other than pride. We hear so much garbage everyday, but this is what solidarity looks and feels like.

Jessica, I used to work in TV news, and just wanted to say that you've helped revive my hope in that business. You're doing a great job of being fair, and you're really working hard. It's greatly appreciated. Now just convince your boss that you need a camera person with you instead of having to shoot things yourself! Thank you.
