  • That said... it looked a lot worse in the replay. Maybe it could have been prevented if Asashoryu really wanted but looks like he started the attack then realised he was already the winner and he decided to finish it anyway.

  • I agree, it didn't look malicious or rude, he just hadn't fully realised that he had already won and was still in combat mode. I think Asashoryo sometimes gets painted to be a worse guy than he really is.

  • i Favorited this video. thanks for letting us know all that awesome incite!

  • @TheGhettoGourmet1 You're welcome. I have an all-Sumo channel here on YT - jasonsinjapan - and I should be back to daily coverage with the November 2010 basho.

  • do you know if sumo have a season ? if that's the right way to put it , we are planing a trip to japan and i would like to time it so i might be able to see one in person (sorry about the bad English)

  • @nowayiwill There are 6 Grand Sumo Tournaments each year -one tournament in each odd numbered month - so Jan, March, May, July, Sept and Nov.

They last for two weeks and usually start in the middle of the month.

  • @myargonauts great thank you very much

  • @myargonauts Thanks for the answer

  • hahaha the last slap was reaaly unnecessary, i didnt saw this even though im mongolian hahha

  • Asashoryu must be sentensed for that STUPID last action...the fight had just finished and he wanted puch out of the ring to Hakuho...my idol fell down from the throne...

  • "That was not very Yakuza-like. Treating a fellow Yakuza like a rank and file..." Yeah, look at those huge dragon and Koi tatoos on their backs, sure are a telltale sign that they indeed belong to criminal organizations... If you look closely, Asa actually has his pinky missing! WTF!!!

    Commentator EPIC FAIL!!!

  • ROFL yup! Yakuza hehehehehheheheh

  • This is what I don't like about Asashyori, he pushes or slaps the opponent after they are defeated already. Hakuho never does that.

  • 好, I like dat!

  • Mongolians have a Pride

  • i wonder how the two of em would fight if they ever get into a brawl in a back alley with each other? i know i know, wretlers, not brawlers. just indulging my imagination.

  • Are they yakuza? or did the announcer make a mistake.... I'm guessing he meant yokozuna. That stare Hakuho gave looked pretty murderous

  • I KNOW!!

  • Yup, the commentator made a mistake. They are not Yakuza, they are Yokozuna

  • Thanks very much for posting this. The explanation of the kanji and katakana was really helpful. Just came back from a trip to Honshu where I saw Kotoōshū Katsunori in training out in Chiba.

  • Who's that jerk who got Yokozuna and Yakuza wrong!? I thought a certain level competence and knowledge was a precondition of commenting at sports events. That was a harsh mistake.

But I admit that being a Japan culture studies major makes me kinda sensitive.

  • I've seen a lot of sumo matches and Asashoryu pushing Hakuho was rude. Their rematch in Nagoya will be very looked forward to. Can't wait to see the stare down then!

  • Just discovered your videos, just splendid, thanks so much.

  • Woah, that was pretty rude, that shove. I like when the commentator said that wasn't very much like a yakuza to be pushing a fellow yakuza! lmao! The Nagoya tournement is going to be fudging awesome! Hakuho has to avenge himself againist Asashouryu and they both have to take down Kotooshu for honor. Simply awesome.

  • They don't adopt Japanese name, that is assigned!

Hakuho started everything. B'coz Asa thought Hakuho was not lost.

  • Cool stuff, thanks Jason, as always.

  • ???

that he try to push out him it is not polite?

  • yeah - it was a bit rude to give an extra shove at the end after he knew that Hakuho had lost.

  • @myargonauts I think its just his instinct..i dont think that he means it...he didn't control it because of the adrenaline that is pumping through out his body..its just instinct to me..totally not intentional..thats why he quickly turn around to avoid a fight..i think asashoryu is a great man

  • The Nagoya Sumo Tournament seems to become literally hot.

Why don't you start up the program of "Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament digest"?

    It might be sponsored.:)

    Jason, thanks always.

  • Thanks for watching and I'm glad you'll be back for the Nagoya videos! :)
