I knew Billy a lifetime ago. Now I guess that's really true. He was maniacal and magical and not to be forgotten. I've followed him online through the years but only learned of his passing tonight. RIP Billy.
Wow, heck of a way to find out! Well, you'll be happy to know that he got a true hero's send off, and his ashes now reside at The Middle East above the bar.
Billy was one of the most alive people ever-the Boston music scene in the 1980s was pretty much because of him. First Mr. Butch, and now Billy... totally the end of an era.
I came across this video by accident whilst posting my own stuff - I didn't know Billy Ruane - I'm from England, but I have to say - what a well put together tribute this is - and the music is something we certainly don't get over here much now - something original, that MOVES you! I look forward to hearing more! Steve Ruane
A very moving tribute, thoughtfully put together, thank you. Billy will be missed~ Also, that song and the girl's performance are heart breakingly beautiful~
Such a great editing job on this in such a short time. I'm also profoundly touched and honored you used the photos I took of Billy and Mary Lou at the Ray Neades tribute. I had no idea then these pictures would be so important to me and others. Thank you for doing such a great job and leaving us with such a touching tribute to Billy.
I keep thinking about what Billy left behind..what he left to me, how he affected and inspired me and all of us.
He wanted us all to be connected. He loved introducing me to his friends. I am no friends with the people I've met through him. It is so important that we all pull together, not only to grieve, but to remember him, sharing our stories and smiling together over our memories. He would have wanted us to stay in touch with one another. Even though of us who haven't met..
This is so incredible, I keep watching it, I am Billy's first cousin, Charlie's sister and I watched this with Lili last night, it was very moving for both of us. I hope we meet on Saturday. You know in reading all this about Billy I am beginning to think he was the sane one.
Thank you. I think I just found you on FB a second ago.
Billy could be very hard to understand at times, however, he always seemed to ultimately point every one in the right direction in life. I'd call that very sane, if not a little misconstrued.
Thank you. Really well done. A friend of mine said "I didn't know him but I think your friend Billy would of really liked it." I agree. I am sure your tribute here means a lot to a lot of folks. It helps stop the crying and starts it all over again.
this has hit me pretty hard. He wouldnt even know who I am but he was a force in my life in the 80s. He was enchanting. This death is like some kind of emblematic or cornerstone event.
It makes me want to be more grateful for being alive.
I was sobbing the whole night I was putting this together. Still having a hard time believing that he's really gone. His voice is still on my answering machine.
Thank you for doing this . . . so much heart went into this . . . I'm Billy's first cousin and it's been a rough couple of days. We didn't see much of each other but I'll miss him being in the world . . . if even just a few more people were as wild and crazy and full of love and life as Billy, it would be . . . more. Perhaps I'll meet you this Saturday night?
I was contracted to shoot a wedding Saturday afternoon about 30 minutes just outside of town, and I've actually only been asked to stay for the first parts of the reception, so I'll be blasting out there at top speed the moment I'm cut loose. Aly Spaltro will be keeping me updated via txt as things transition, so as long as I don't royally screw up and get myself lost, its looking like we will get to meet. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
well done... i needed that for whatever reason.... thanks.. whoever you are..

@ratuse I wailed the night he passed in a way I have never experienced and I've experienced plenty of pain. Sounds of grief. What a force he was.
