They should have stopped car chases after bullitt?? That sounds like a slap in the face to The French Connection to me.... I don't think Clint's buddy Gene Hackman would appreciate that. One of the best chase scenes in cinema history was in French Connection. Whatever Clint!

@mjb785 Gene Hackman hated violence, but continued to play bad asses , for the money. Hackman didn't have shit to do with the car chase stuff. McQueen, on the other hand, owned the production company that got Bullitt made.

@mjb785 ... I don't think that the comment is meant to be interpreted too literally. After all, Eastwood himself was in a smashing car chase at the end of "Magnum Force" (Ted Post, 1973).

The point is that while of course there were some great car chases after "Bullitt," perhaps better than the one in "Bullitt," the idea of a "car chase" inspired by that film eventually became too much of a cliche.

@GSheppo92 100x better? That sounds pretty dumb. I'm a huge fan of Christian Bale and I respect him very much for his commitment to his work, In movies like Rescue Dawn he's amazing. And I also highly regard Daniel Day Lewis as an actor. But I would say Sean body of work and diversity of roles puts him on top. Powerhouse performances is what Sean always puts in. Clint Eastwood, Roger Ebert have defined him as the best actor of his generation.
