  • Buddy does a great job

    on this FRANKIE LAINE CLASSIC..

  • notice he was like the first to use a Fender Stratocaster.

  • Very nice.

  • WHO,S ELVIS

  • marie elena holly remarried had two kids which one has buddy name he also recorded marie elena but norman petty drlibertly distroyed it because buddy sang it in spanish

  • THE KING

  • @noddygreenacre HE IS THE REAL KING!!!!! LOVE YA AND FOREVER REST IN PEACE BUDDY!!!

  • wow-didn't know Buddy did this-very kool audio/video. I've never seen live shots of him like this-excellent! I do a humble tribute version of "Rave On." Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock).

  • this is so under played. its a beautiful version (the best ) buddy holly - genius

  • now thats a singer

  • Maria Elena (maiden name-Santiago) is still alive last I heard. She was pregnant at the time of Buddy's death, but sadly mis-carried soon after. She did eventually re-marry, had several children and at last count 3 grandkids, but has divorced and is living in Dallas TX.

  • I like this version but I can't download it.

  • and that takes NOTHING from Elvis' amazing talents, but remember Buddy was focussed on his 'calling' whilst EP was still a truck-driving 'dandy' on Beale Street & dreaming of making a SUN disc for his Ma where he'd sound like ~~BING CROSBY!! The major difference was LOOKS..........Elvis had 'em whilst BH had poor eyesight, 'graveyard' teeth [B4 he had 'em fixed!] & was 'gangly' & didn't THINK he had the visual IMAGE & was VERY conscious of this. EP was a glorious style accident, BH was a MUSO!

  • @biggerthanacadillac Buddy was playing straight Hillbilly and Country until he saw Elvis perform. So while he may have been more involved at pursuing music Elvis cut "My Happiness" in early 1953 and turned out the "Sun Sessions" in 1954 which became the shot-heard-around-the-world and kicked off the Rock-A-Billy phase.Buddy himself said "If not for Elvis none of us would have made it" Buddy may have had more talents-singer-composer-lyricist Ect. But his talent DID NOT surpass Elvis.

  • Really have to acquaint a LOT of folks re BH facts & dispel SOME deeply embedded myths which are constantly developing around the late GREAT genius from Lubbock. He started muso-ing c.1949..older brothers used would grease his violin strings for fun, he was mid-west BIG in v. early 50's with Bob Montgomery as "Buddy & Bob"...BH got the break, Bob encouraged him selflessly. He had that UNIQUE vocal gift/voice as did Louis Armstrong. Unmistakeable. He' done it all B4 Elvis first entered SUN studio

  • I also have never heard this version. It is awesome tho' I love it.... Buddy, how we loved you.....Phyllis

  • I never heard anything bad come from Buddy Holly.

  • @Rattapax that makes two ( and i am sure millions more) of us partner

  • never heard of it and loved the rare photos

  • I know this a Buddy forum, but Patsy Cline does this song, too, and its really good like Buddy's.

  • Thanks for couple of great songs

  • Simply wonderful...Buddy Holly will always be #1.

So many have done this song, starting with Frankie Lane, Dion, The Channels, and more.

  • あらゆるアーティストのカバーの中でバディ ホリーのバージョンが一番好きです!

    ほのぼのしてとても感じがいいです。

  • 同感!

  • Originally a hit for Frankie Laine, whose version is also here on You Tube.

  • I just discovered this song too, on the newly released RARITIES CD, undubbed without the piano. Absolutely amazing!

  • Tolle Bilder von Buddy Holly.Frage ? ist der Song auch von Buddy?den kenn ich überhaupt noch nicht.Gruß an dich ,,buddyfan57 aus Old Germany!!

  • what a sublime song this is. one of the great buddy songs

  • How beautiful.

  • Thanks for that Buddyfan, really enjoyed it.....I saw Buddy & two of the Crickets perform at The Croydon Empire when he toured England...many memories, I proposed to my late wife listening to this song....not Buddy's version. Thanks again.

  • Your wife is lucky to have you! As a music lover, if I could relive my life, that is what I would have wanted. I was briefly engaged to a wonderful musician. He played a medly of Neal Sedaka songs on piano, & I will never forget the memory of that! Neil's music is wonderful for piano.

  • what was it like seeing buddy and the crickets live. iv always loved buddy. he seems like he would be exciting to see.

  • I have this track on a single, it is on the Coral lable with Maybe Baby on the flipside, not the origional by the Crickets, but just by Buddy on his own, it was relaesed in England in the early 1960s.

Thanks for all your Buddy and Everlys stuff you have great musical taste.

  • Buddy Holly without a doubt was the best

  • This is so perfect. I had no idea Buddy did it. Seeing that young man, I was 10 yrs old & just starting to RnR; when his plane crashed; -- seeing him made me teary. So young. Very touching. Thank you!

  • Absolutely superb!!!

  • i love this song, listen to eddie cochran and jerry lee's version !!

  • ive played this about 5 times carnt belive ive never heard this ,i had two reel to reel tapes of buddy i used to listen to as a kid .gill says "what happened to buddys wife ,do you know ? thanks again rick n gill

  • ummm all i know is that his wife did get remarried and had children and i think she has past on by now but im not sure.

  • @buddyfan57 Buddy's wife at the time of his death is still alive, as of 2009 anyways. She was at the Memorial Concert in Clear Lake, Iowa in Feb. 2009- along with Ritchie Valens' family and JP Richardson's family. There is a YT clip of the concert.

  • Maria Elena Holly is still alive, she is 72 years old, there is plenty of imfomation about her if you type her name into google.

  • I thought I knew everything by Buddy but this is new to me, thanks for posting.

Marie Elena Holly did indeed remarry and had three children She owns the rights to his name, image, trademarks, and other intellectual property and has been widely criticised for exploiting Buddy's name and attempts to prevent its use for festivals and the like in Texas.

  • @ashuk1000 Paul McCartney owns the music publishing.

  • Marie Elena Holly is still very much alive or at least she was at the 50th Anniversary Tribute Concert that I attended in the Surf ballroom, Clear Lake, Iowa on Feb 2nd last year when she sang? with Los Lonely Boys, Los Lobos and various members of Richie Valens family.

  • @jonan33 ... MARIA ELENA is alive-and-well , but often "nixes" the Efforts of BUDDY HOLLY Fans to put-on "Tribute" Shows , such-as when the City of Lubbock TEXAS wanted to hold "BUDDY HOLLY DAYS" ... and don't feel-bad about not previously-knowing about This Particular Recording. MCA Records didn't release-It until the Mid-1980s , on an L.P. titled "FOR THE FIRST-TIME , ANYWHERE".
